While driving, the vehicle intermittently slipped into 4-wheel drive low. Vehicle immediately became hard to steer/move in this condition, dangerous to drive as the vehicle's handling could change at any moment. . . At any speed.
There is a recall on the right steering knuckle on my type of vehicle, including same year, make and model. I did not ever get a recall notice, but was involved in a crash where the right steering knuckle broke and caused significant other damage to my vehicle. The vehicle was not safe to drive, so I was forced to file a claim with my insurance to have it fixed. I had to pay a large deductible and was faulted for the accident. What can I do to get reimbursed for this since there is a recall on that part of the vehicle?.
The svc 4wd light comes on when idling and other random times. The steering acts like its in 4 wheel drive when it isnt. There is a shifting of some kind when the engine isn't on and the doors are unlocked remotely.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2007 Chrysler Aspen 4x4. The contact stated that the wheels randomly locked and the traction control warning indicator randomly flashed. As a result, the power steering was extremely affected and the steering wheel was difficult to maneuver as the front and rear wheels locked up. In addition, the four wheel drive indicator randomly flashed and the gears independently shifted at a low rate of speed. The vehicle was not inspected and diagnosed by a dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was also included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v352000 (air bags). The approximate failure mileage was 147,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Aspen. While driving approximately 25 mph, the engine warning indicator illuminated and there was a complete loss of power steering. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road and the engine was turned off. After restarting, the vehicle resumed normal steering function. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
The clock spring/steering sensor has gone out on my Aspen. What I was told by dealership is it has gone bad on so many Aspen and other Chrysler cars using this part that it is on back order and may take up to 6 months to get one. . . This part has caused my anti-lock brake, skid control and my all wheel drive to no longer work.
The clock spring is broken. Chrysler doesn't have the part and claim it is not a safety issue. I think anything involving the inflation of the airbag is a safety issue.
We lost control of the vehicle upon hitting a medium sized bump while traveling approximately 38mph in a straight line. This has happened multiple times when hitting small to medium sized bumps since we purchased the vehicle late in 2014. There are no broken or worn out parts in the steering or suspension and the tires only have 3,000 miles on them. In fact, the problem became worse when we replaced the previous tires. This leads me to believe there is an issue the in engineering of the steering system on this vehicle. It is literally impossible to hit a bump without the steering pulling to the side, which re-directs the vehicle regardless of how hard the driver grips the steering wheel. This is a very dangerous vehicle and we need a solution as soon as possible before this causes a major accident.
Hello, I am the owner of a 2008 Aspen. I recently took the vehicle to a safety car seat checkpoint and was recommended to contact you by the officer concerning the seat belts. They don't lock when pulled all the way out like other vehicles (I. E. Notable resistance when trying to secure a car seat in place). I have also noticed this when switching car seats in a durango that my brother owns. I know the belts lock upon braking the vehicle. Also, I have had an issue where the vehicle has shut off, and I have lost power steering and all electrical control after topping off at a gas station. We promptly took it to the local dealer who did a computer update but it continues to happen anytime we top off with gas. As long as we don't overfill above the first click of the gas handle, the vehicle doesn't cut off spontaneously while driving. My husband has visited forums online where this has been as issue for other owners. Fortunately, I was in a neighborhood two miles down the road when it cut off with me and my children so was able to coast to a stop. However, I feel it is a big safety issue as it doesn't happen immediately and if I had been on a busy road could have potentially resulted in an accident as I had no control of the vehicle.
The 4wd started to engage without being switched and with no indication on the instrumentation panel. Vehicle goes into 4x4 on its own. When we make a sharp turn going forward or backing. . . The rear tires lock up. The svc 4 wheel drive light comes on and off sporadically. I can also hear it switch back and forth under the car even when the vehicle is off. Periodically when you switch the dial over to 4lo or 4x4 lock the svc 4wd light just flickers off and on.
The contact owns a 2007 Chrysler Aspen. The contact stated that when driving at various speeds, the vehicle would jerk toward the right without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the right steering knuckle was cracked. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 06v386000 (steering). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 130,000.
Rounding corner when steering completely locked up; not allowing me to turn vehicle to make curve. Ran through field into electrical box. Almost ran in to house. Fortunately, my significant other is an experienced driver and was able to react quickly to ensure his safety. However, this vehicle was bought for my 15 year old son to drive when he gets his license. Luckily, he was not driving the car as he would not have had the experience to handle this accident without fatally injuring himself and/or others. I found a recall notice on these vehicles after the accident; when I called I was told that our vehicle is not covered under recall (actually, no recall at all - what?). The engine sounds loud and whiny (fan sounding) and the running board was partially broken off, as well as a small dent in the passenger door (driver's side). Chrysler is not helping at all - refusing to acknowledge the problem. Where do I turn?.
Power steering hose blew out! it is routed to close to a pully. I replaced it with a marine grade hose from home depot just to get home safely. I then brought it into the dealer and was told, "there are thousands of these cars on the road with no problem like this. Bad luck for you I guess".
The contact owns a 2007 Chrysler Aspen. While driving approximately 5 mph, the contact drove over a puddle of water and the steering became difficult to maneuver. After stopping the vehicle briefly the steering function reset independently. The failure recurred four times. The contact, who was a certified mechanic, was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was neither repaired nor taken to an authorized dealer for inspection or repairs. The approximate failure mileage was 32,000.
The contact owns a 2007 chrylser Aspen. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph over bumps in the road, the vehicle would jerk towards the right and the contact would lose steering control. The dealer was notified and stated the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 06v386000 (steering). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 62,000.
My wife was driving her 2007 Chrysler Aspen in parsipanny, NJ. She was merging from 287s onto 80w and traveling about 35mph. As she was merging onto 80w the driver's side ball joint on the steering linkage completely failed resulting in a total loss of control. She managed to limp car to side of road and called myself and aaa to have car brought to dealer for service. This is a very serious defect. The car has approximately 64k miles on it and has been regularly serviced. She is 7 months pregnant and we have a 3. 5 year old son. This could have been a very serious accident under different circumstances, traffic conditions, and/or speed we are waiting to hear dealers/manufacturers response and solution. .
Vehicle has a vibration in steering mainly when going over bumps. I have had it looked by 5 different mechanics including Chrysler. No one can find it. I have changes tires and shokes three times.
I was pulling into a parking lot w/ my 2007 chyrsler Aspen made a right hand turn and the car proceeded straight and struck another vehicles side. I experienced a loss of steering during a right hand turn. There was a trail of power steering fluid from the point of steering loss to the point of impact of other vehicle. Afterwards both wheels were pointed inward and the vehicle was not drivable. There is a recall on certain Aspens w/ this same problem but not mine. I am seeking payment for damages done to my vehicle. My dealership paid for the steering to be fixed but not damages. Thank you joe. . . .
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Chrysler Aspen. The contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, when the vehicle hit a bump it would jerk the steering wheel causing to loose control of the steering.
