Suspension Problems of Chrysler Concorde

Chrysler Concorde owners have reported 11 problems related to suspension (under the suspension category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Suspension problem of the 1996 Chrysler Concorde

Failure Date: 07/03/2012

Quick-struts after market replacement parts may be defective. This product is called a monroe quick- strut. The failed part was returned for warranty replacement: part #171939. The top of the strut, nut, and steal washer "tore free" of the plate which compresses the spring. The 'top plate' part of the assembly remained anchored to the car by three nuts located in the trunk. This plate no longer contained the strut and the compressed spring as supplied in quick strut assembly. The assembly as purchased, has a nut and washer mounted in two inches of rubber molded in the plate on top of the strut spring assembly. That rubber component failed. This becomes obvious after the parts are removed from the vehicle. The oem part contains a large washer located on the top which would prevent this type of failure. This failure could result in loss of control of the vehicle while driving.

2 Suspension problem of the 2002 Chrysler Concorde

Failure Date: 09/22/2011

After backing our car out of the carport, we noticed a long thin piece of corroded metal laying on the ground. I got under the car and found that the fuel tank retaining straps were severely corroded, the one on the left side of the car had holes completely corroded through. The suspension components have heavy surface corrosion as well. I feel that if the automotive manufactures continue to use metal fuel tank retaining straps they should encase them in a non corrosive material. This would reduce the effects of corrosion and chafing of the fuel tank, this is a high vibration area. I contacted Chrysler via e-mail, their response was,( unfortunately we are unable to diagnose the situations you have outlined in your e-mail). I then contacted Chrysler by phone and told the representative about my situation. He told me due to the age of the car and the mileage that there was nothing they could do. At that point I asked him if I could speak to a supervisor, he told me at that time they were not available and that they would call me back. I never received a call back, however I did receive a customer survey on my e-mail account. With this being a dangerous safety issue I could not wait for Chrysler's response. I replace the fuel tank straps myself, I found replacement straps at a local auto parts store. I have reviewed this dot web site on previous complaints with this model, make and year automobile. Found nothing in regards to the fuel tank straps. I did find a service bulletin issued by Chrysler on the transmission control module which we had replaced a few years ago. This was an very expensive repair, we were never notified of the service bulletin. Another complaint from a customer about loss of tire pressure a safety issue as well. We also experienced this, the tires had to be removed from the rim and the mating surface of the rim to tire cleaned.

Have had to replace all bushings, in front end, including motor mount. All have worn prematurely and were very expensive. Still have steering bushing to be replaced that causes drift, but unable at this time to afford. Really disappointed that no recall has surfaced on these essential parts.

7 Suspension problem of the 1999 Chrysler Concorde

Failure Date: 05/30/1999

On 3 separate occasions over 3 days, vehicle began to shudder violently. Once at 35 mph and twice at 65 mph. Applying brakes did not stop problem. Only when speed came down to 35 - 45 mph. Two dealers have inspected the tires, engine, transmission and suspension without result. While problem has not recurred since 5/30, there could be a serious accident if it occurred again at high speed in heavy traffic.

10 Suspension problem of the 1996 Chrysler Concorde

Problem: vehicle wanders and requires constant corrective steering input from the driver. No matter what the road condition( wet/dry/flat/crowned), the car will " drift" and or pull to the side with out any apparent pattern, consequently, intense concentration is required to drive this vehicle. Also, the effort to steer right/ left is variable, again with out a pattern. The car is not equipped with speed-sensitive steering. According to the dealer's service records, the previous owner had the same difficulty. The tires have been rotated on a regular basis; the front brake assemblies have been replaced, and I have precisely adjusted the tire psi all to no avail. I had a 1996 eagle vision that had similar problems, though I did not report it. Please investigate.

Malfunction could not be replicated after 90 miles of test driving. No problems apparent with suspension or steering. No engine or tcm fault codes recorded. At this point cause unknown.
