Rear window mounted in the convertible top breaks loose and falls. It could have been worse had it come loose at a higher speed, but in the end the major issue is now the large hole allowing water into the inside of the car. Chrysler has acknowledged this issue but only if the car is originally sold in certain states. This car has been in those states almost the entire time it has existed, but because it was sold in California originally it is deemed not covered.
Rear window adhesive failed and rear window glass started to become detached from convertible top.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire roadster. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, a whistle noise was emitted from the rear portion of the convertible top. As a result, the rear window glass became slightly detached. There were no recalls for the failure however, a technical service bulletin was issued under NHTSA item number: 10042531 (visibility:glass, side/rear). The vehicle was neither diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 40,700. Kmj.
Rear glass on convertible top fell out.
The rear adhesive on my 2005 Chrysler Crossfire roadsters rear window, that holds it to the soft top convertible, has begun to detach. I have called Chrysler about the issue and they explained that my vehicle was not covered by the warranty and they will not assist. This is a huge safety concern for me because the window could detach while driving and possibly cause harm and/or death to other drivers on the roadway. I found a service bulletin on the issue with a bulletin # sb-23035-11reva that recommends that the convertible top be inspected and/or replaced if defective. Chrysler is not helping at all with this serious safety issue to help me fix it and make my vehicle safe for myself, and the others around me. I am a member of Crossfireforum. Org and there are many other people with this issue that have either gotten it replaced by Chrysler for free, or paid a CO-pay to help them fix the problem, but I was offered neither for this extremely unsafe issue my vehicle has. Please help me in any way that you can.
Rear window in convertible top unglued on top and both sides and fell into car while parked. Air temperature was above 100f. No previous problems with window leakage or sign of impending failure. Believe this is part of sb 23035-11 rev a but local Chrysler dealer unable to authorize repair or replacement. Have contacted Chrysler and opened case number [xxx] and am awaiting resolution. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Rear window on my rag top has come unglued have read were a lot of other Crossfires rag tops have the same problem. This is a defect that Chrysler needs to fix at no cost.
The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire. The contact stated that the rear windshield fell inward, into the vehicle cabin without warning. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the window needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileage was 38,000.
When traveling down the highway I noticed that the glass rear window on my convertible 2005 Chrysler Crossfire roadster had become partially ( only 6 inches where attached at top of glass ) unattached from the canvas top and was hitting against the body when I would hit a bump. When I got home I did an internet search about how to fix it, and found that this is a common problem with the Crossfire rear window of this model year. I called the dealer at that time and they said it was not covered. I had the window glued back but it has sense delaminated again. Now I see Chrysler may have been planning this fix for some time?.
Rear window failure -- adhesive fails & rear window falls out. The failure of any window is not normal "wear and tear. " many of these cars have experienced the same failure over the years. Chrysler finally -- after years of complaints -- issued a service bulletin #23-03511reva in 2011 that, according to Chrysler, covers only vehicles delivered in nine southeastern states. It extends warranty coverage to ten years (which means Chrysler will replace the convertible tops under warranty). All these cars were built in belgium. Chrysler had trouble selling these vehicles so it auctioned some vehicles internally to its dealer network, who were then permitted to get whatever they could for brand new "used" cars. Mine went to a Dodge dealer in farmville va and was sold to me (via ebay) with 3 miles on the odometer in mid-2007 or so. 33 mos. Of "new car warranty" remained when I rec'd it here in hawaii. When that warranty expired I purchased an extended "platinum" warranty. The rear window fell out of the convertible top three months after the initial 36 month warranty had expired, the extended "platinum" warranty wouldn't cover repairs. The car had approx. 8000 miles on it. As noted before, Chrysler issued the service bulletin mentioned above in 2011 but arbitrarily excluded some vehicles despite the problem occurring in cars all over the nation. I guess that they thought that the problem would happen only in certain climes -- but there are more than nine u. S. States that get hot weather, e. G. , hawaii experiences hot sun year-round. And mine fell out despite very low mileage and the car being garaged when not in use. I request NHTSA demand that Chrysler extend coverage to all vehicles that fit the criteria, not just those "delivered" in nine of fifty states. The failure of any window is not normal "wear and tear" no matter where it happens. Thanks.
Glass rear window of convertible top detaching.
It's hard to imagine how anyone at nhsta can sit and review all the reports on a serious manufacturing defect (and safety hazard) on these cars yet Chrysler get away with a partial recall based on where the Crossfires were initially delivered. Bottom line: as of late 2011, Chrysler will do the "right thing" only if one's car was "delivered" in one of several southern states -- in light of the fact that the problem seems to be related to heat. Chrysler will not do the right thing if the same problem (the rear window falls out of the convertible top) if the car was delivered somewhere else -- as if the same problem occurring in those states is somehow not a serious manufacturing defect. Or as if people don't move to other states during their lives. I will never buy a Chrysler/fiat product again in light of how the Chrysler company hasn't stood behind its product and repaired this common defect -- a defect that should never occur in a modern car. This is so far from the attitude of most japanese and korean car manufacturers that the difference suggests that it's flat-out foolish to by anything from this company. But when it comes to nhsta, it makes one wonder why that agency sits on its hands and does nothing to require Chrysler to extend its service bulletin to cover all such vehicles, no matter where delivered. Rightly makes one wonder what nhsta does that's worth we taxpayers paying their salaries.
