Seven problems related to fuel injection have been reported for the 1997 Chrysler LHS. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact owns a 1997 Chrysler Lhs. The contact stated that the vehicle was included and repaired under NHTSA campaign id number: 98v184000 (fuel system: gasoline: fuel injection system) in 1999 for an abnormal gasoline smell. The contact stated that the odor had returned and the smell of gasoline was extremely overpowering. The vehicle was inspected by the dealer and it was determined that the o-rings failed. The failure mileage was 143,000.
The contact owns a 1997 Chrysler Lhs. While driving approximately 25 mph, the contact activated the air conditioner unit and smelled a strong odor of gasoline. The check engine warning light indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and discovered that the fuel injection was leaking fuel. The technician advised the contact not to drive the vehicle due to the possibility of a fire. The vehicle has not been repaired. The VIN was not included in the recall pertaining to the gasoline fuel injection system. The failure and current mileages were 130,000. Updated 07/29/08 the fuel injection was leaking gas. Had received recall notice 98v184000 & notified dealer. Took vehicle to dealer & had "o" rings repaired under recall. Picked up vehicle & it was running rough. Tok vehicle back to dealer when other drivers started flagging owner down due to vehicle on fire. The recall remedy had failed & vehicle had caught fire.
The vehicle fuel rail o-rings were replaced per recall notice 98v-184, recently the consumer began smelling fuel around the engine when the vehicle was in the garage, the fuel rail o-rings had to be replaced again after initial repair and the consumer was charged. Nlm.
A gasoline odor in passenger compartment. Dealership has examined vehicle approximately six times, and has been unable to effectively remedy the problem. Note: recall 98v184000 repairs were performed on January 18, 2000. Please provide any additional information / documentation.
Recall 98v184000 concerning fuel injection system leakage. Dealer could not get parts for recall service, but the vehicle has since been repaired.
Recall 98v184000, Chrysler/fuel leakage; owner received notice on April 3, 1999. Owner contacted dealer on April 5, 1999, and was given an appointment for August 12, 1999.
