The contact owns a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. While driving approximately 40 mph, the engine rpms began to fluctuate between 4,000 and 5,000 and the vehicle would not accelerate over 40 mph. The contact noticed smoke escaping from under the hood and as the failure was investigated, flames began erupting from the hood area. The fire department reported to the scene and a report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a body shop where it was deemed as destroyed. The cause of the fire was undetermined. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 03v471000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings) which could have been related to the failure but the contact was advised by the manufacturer that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Fire in the engine compartment that ended up in a total loss of the vehicle. Auto adjuster notified the fuel line caused the fire.
While driving vehicle stalled. Consumer managed to restart the vehicle. Recall 03v471000 was issued, but dealerships had no parts for repair.
Consumer received recall 03v471000 regarding fuel line leakage. Consumer spoke with manufacturer on three occasions about this particular recall. Manufacturer repeatedly informed the consumer that the recall did not exist.
