The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica. While driving approximately 80 mph, the transfer case failed and disconnected from the motor. The driver side, steering wheel, and front passenger side air bags deployed with force. There was a white substance that emitted into the interior of the vehicle, which affected the four occupants in the vehicle. The force of the air bag deployment hindered the vision of the driver and front passenger. The driver, front passenger, and two rear passengers were uninjured. The insurance company stated that they would not cover the repair because there was no crash. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided a third party technician who diagnosed the vehicle. Neither the insurance company nor the manufacturer repaired the vehicle. The contact was to take the vehicle to an independent mechanic for further inspection and repair. The failure mileage was not available.

While test driving the vehicle the contact observed the tire pressure and the air bag warning light indicators were illuminated. The dealer stated they needed to be reset, and to schedule an appointment. The contact drove the vehicle for repairs to the dealer, and when the dealer drove the vehicle less than 100 feet, the side/curtain air bags deployed. The contact no longer wanted the vehicle. He spoke with the regional office , which indicated that an engineer may investigate the failure. The vehicle was currently at the dealer.
