Parking Brake problem #1

Emergency brake failure - lever for activating parking brake came loose from assembly and became lodged between brake drum and brake assembly. This caused wheel to stop rotating. Could put car in reverse temporarily dislodging lever allowing vehicle to move freely. Lever finally lodged completely causing wheel to drag and overheat. Needed to replace parking brake assembly in the affected wheel.

The contact owns a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact was driving approximately 35 mph with the parking brake engaged unknowingly from the prior day. The parking brake light illuminated on the instrument panel. The parking brake was disengaged, followed by an abrupt stop. The vehicle failed to proceed in a forward direction. The gear was shifted into reverse and then into the drive position. The vehicle was able to continue normally. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. The technician was unable to duplicate the problem and stated the brake pedal functioned as designed. The failure mileage was 16,169.
