1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2026

The van has just approx 55000 miles. While driving on highway, it suddenly lost power and from 60mph it came down to 20 miles in a matter of few seconds after few violent jerks. I was lucky that no vehicle was behind me. After that I pulled a side and then again started. It kept jerking and loosing power. Very carefully I got it to a mechanic. They are checking but they say looks like transmission issues. Engine light also came on. This happened few months ago however it was not this bad and my mechanic looked and he could not find anything. That problem went away after that incident. Kindly advise what to do in this situation. Chrysler Pacifica 2018 this van has lots of problems in other crucial area also like air fender switch, oil hose and cover that went bad as they are made of plastic. Then the trans mounts broke. It costed me dearly. Please advice what to do? best regards [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2025

I was traveling at south bound on toll 130 going 80mph (which is the speed limit on that road) when my Pacifica immediately slowed down and my accelerator gave out. In addition to my dash flashing that the cruise control was no longer available, but the van also said "service charging system" and "shift to p to start", the engine light and batter light both came on. I am sure that I almost died as I was in the middle lane and cars were whipping around me since I had slowed down so much, there was an 18 wheeler behind me and one of my righthand side, which is the shoulder I was trying to get to. I was finally able to coast to the shoulder and came to a stop, put the car in park and turned it off. I immediately started researching what the problem could be and I was alarmed to find out that this is an issue that others have had and that Chrysler has failed to issue a recall. . . I was able to start the car once more and get on to a little back road, after pushing through a barricade off the toll just for safety's sake, and my van broke down again, this time on a little 2 lane road, which thankfully had a little bit of a gravel shoulder. This time, my van took quite a bit longer to get started, but I was not safe where I was. I started it once more and was able to get to a wal-mart parking lot where my brother-in-law picked me up so that I could have a chance of making it to see my grandmother who was on her deathbed, I missed my window of opportunity to make it to see her, she died that afternoon. I had to pay an additional tow fee to get the vehicle moved from the parking lot to a Chrysler dealership since it was so far from where I usually go.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2024

While driving on a 4-lane highway, I received a message on the dashboard "vehicle will shut off soon". I had just a few seconds before power to the vehicle was limited. The engine stopped working and another message was displayed: "battery conditioning leave ignition in run. " after that the car would no longer move and I was in the middle of the right lane. Luckily I could get my children out safely. The vehicle was towed to the local Chrysler dealership where it is waiting for repair.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2024

I had had multiple incidents when the van would get stuck in a gear or would lose the ability to accelerate. The passenger doors, specifically the right side passenger door would get suck and continuously open because it could not close. The rear view cameras would get stuck and after reverting to d it would stay on the screen for at least 5 min before switching back. The screen would also go blank. The van would also get stuck between gears or would shut off at a stop light. On this particular day I was driving and was starting to slowdown for the light signal. The van suddenly jolted and stopped completely. I tried to turn it on and it would not start. I was very lucky that the car behind me noticed me slowing down and did not hit the van. I tried to turn on the van and the electrical function would turn on but not the engine. Then after continuously trying to start it the gear function would not move. I also want to add that at the time of purchase the van was missing a air duct and I was not made aware of that. I was told by the dealer that it had active recalls but they were not able to fix the recalls because the engine would not start. It had an active recall for the flash software and for the start stop. Dealer tried to tell me it overheated, however this is false, there was no white smoke and no other indications that the van had overheated. I wasn't able to add that the electrical in the vehicle is a problem. The radio and screen would just go blank at times.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2024

The contact owns a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. Additionally, the check engine and the stop and start warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that on the last occasion the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the battery was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was scheduled for a service appointment. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2024

The vehicle display reads "service charging system" and switches into limp mode where the vehicle is prevented from driving faster than 15 mph. After leaving the van sit for a time, it drives ok. I took the van to a Chrysler dealership twice after this happened, and the dealership could not resolve the issue. After the second time this happened, the dealership contacted an engineer at Chrysler to try and resolve the problem, but they could not. Chrysler says the problem stems from the charger that is being used, but the error/limp mode occurs not after using a charger. I am concerned that the vehicle will switch over to limp mode at any time presenting a safety risk.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2022

On three recent, separate occasions, the vehicle has lost acceleration while making a left hand turn from a stop (date listed for this incident is most recent). No visual or aural warning indications have displayed on the dash during or proximate to these incidents, but the car felt like it went out of gear while making a normal left turn. Pushing or releasing the throttle only affected engine rpm, not any acceleration, so it felt like we were only coasting. It lasts longer than a normal shift, more than a few seconds, before power is sent to the wheels again. On two of the occasions there was oncoming traffic approaching the intersection. If the power had died any sooner in the turn I'm not sure I would have cleared the intersection in time with what little speed I had gained, increasing the risk of collision. I am taking the car to the local Chrysler dealership tomorrow for inspection and hopeful diagnosis/repair. I can't replicate the issue on demand, but after 3 separate occasions, it is an unmistakable feeling. Based on the clunky, jerking shifting into gear that sometimes occurs with the vehicle outside the above-described incidents, I believe it might be transmission related, but I can't be sure.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2022

Sept. 12, 2022 - ever since we have owned this vehicle, we have experienced this issue with the cruise control. Speed increases while driving downhill highways and sometimes on pretty level highways. When I decrease the speed on the controller, it sometimes maintains the speed for several seconds (slow to respond) in order to slow down while coming up behind another vehicle. I therefore need to break or turn off the cruise control. Very unpredictable. Also, speed changes a lot which sounds like shifting gears back and forth while going uphill. I had contacted the dealer originally and was told this is normal. This is ongoing. Happens every time when driving on the highway. Safety concern. The other issue we had experienced while driving on a city street, we got some odd sounds, what sounded like it was coming for the transmission. Like shifting sounds. And on another couple of occasions, we got a kind of (clunk) noise. Not sure…hard to explain. Only happened a few times over the last several months. And was brief. This in not ongoing, but a concern for failure and or safety. No warning lamps or messages.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2022

The transmission shifts hard when traveling around 14 mph then will jerk (like being rear ended), slows down then accelerates on its own. I'm afraid it will cause an accident. Chrysler said it is supposed to work like that and nothing is wrong with it. I have had 3 diagnostic tests done it and it shows nothing is wrong.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2022

Vehicle randomly loses all steering power and van completely shuts off while in motion. Has happened twice now without warning. Won't start up til vehicle is in park and has stalled for a minute. . Could be potentially very dangerous on a highway or busy intersection. I have owned this vehicle for less than 1 year. According to consumerreport. Org certain Pacificas years 2017-2019 had this same issue back in 2019 and approximately 150,000 were recalled at the time. However, currently there is no open recall active. Reference NHTSA campaign number:19v348 reference fca recall number:v53.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2021

This van is a 2018 modified with a handicap accessible rear ramp. We purchased this van in 2021 and since it has spent 6 months the first time at the shop then it was at our facility totally not running for another 6 months we paid 400 dollars to tow it to a dealership they replaced the transmission it ran for 2 months and now doesn’t start it’s in limp mode and when it does start and run when your driving it loses all power suddenly. We have only put 3800 miles on this van in the time we’ve had it and we owe over 25,000 still on it. Nobody can figure out what’s wrong with it but we are very small residential care facility and we are unable to transport residents because we have a broken van that we still pay for do we can’t purchase another one.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2021

Picked up vehicle from bayside Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram of annapolis after we were told the problems were addressed. After driving about 50 miles home parking than driving the van again about 5 miles, in the center lane of the road driving about 45 mph the van said "shift to p to start". The van wouldn't accelerate forcing my wife to drift to the shoulder of the road. The van was turned off and attempted to turn back on, but the van would not turn completely on to drive. After about five minutes the van was able to be restarted and turned on. The check engine light came on, the van was driven to auto zone to have the check engine light read. "power train system - p0bfd" & " secondary dtc".

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2021

This is the third and fourth time we have had this issue with our van. The previous two times were on may 25, 2019 and June 4, 2021. In this incident, my wife was driving our van with our two kids and I down northwest highway in arlington heights, IL. We were going about 35 miles per hour when several alarms and warnings appeared on the driver’s dashboard including 'service hybrid system', a red wrench with a red lightning bolt through it, the orange engine warning light, and red battery warning icon, and a message appeared saying 'shift vehicle to park'. (see attached photos. ) when my wife pressed the accelerator pedal nothing happened. We were able to coast and turn down a side street. We put the vehicle in park, turned it off and we’re able to restart it. We immediately notified the dealership and drove it there. On the way to the dealership, we made a stop. When in a parking lot, my wife pressed the accelerator to drive and the same issue happened with the same warning lights and alarms. Once again, we shifted to park, turned the vehicle off and we’re able to restart it. We drove straight to the dealership, informed them of the repeated issue and left the van with them. The dealership indicated there were over twenty software updates. We were told the exact same thing on June 4th the last time this happened. They have not yet been able to tell us why this has happened or continues to happen. The problem has not been reproduced by the dealership but this is the third time this has happened. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2021

The first thing I would like to address is the shutdown system eco feature has shutdown out of nowhere. An a indicator light is on dash, along with my check engine light. In addition, when I turn the vehicle on the rpm go sky high for about 45 seconds before it adjust to proper rpms. I also believe there are major electrical issue going on with the vehicle. My power doors, and rear door won’t open and the lights in the minivan flicker when the vehicle starts. I am worried this is my only family means for transportation. I have only had this vehicle for a little over a year.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2021

This is the second time we have had this issue with our van. The first time was may 25, 2019. On June 4, 2021, my wife was driving down the highway with our two kids and as she began to exit toward the off ramp, several alarms and warning appeared on the driver’s dashboard including 'service hybrid system', a red wrench with a lightning bolt through it, the orange engine warning light, and a message appeared saying 'shift vehicle to park'. The van stalled and when my wife pressed the accelerator, nothing happened. She was able to coast down the exit ramp and pull over to the shoulder. The van was out in park, shut off and we were able to restart it. The orange engine warning light remained on. We immediately drove to the dealership. They ran a diagnostic test and said no issues came up but there were twenty some software updates. The issue has not been reproduced by the dealer but we have had it happen two times. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2021

I was driving straight at 40mph. The engine turned off, but electrical maintained. After a couple hundred feet the engine came back on. Without pushing on the gas the engine accelerated the car over a short distance, break was inputted and full control was restored to the physical. We took the vehicle to the dealer, but nothing was done as they couldn't replicate the issue. This vehicle has had numerous electrical issues.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2021

Had a wheel alignment it still pulling to the side . I do think it the control arm lower arm, train axle assembly axle shaft. Radio doesn't work correct or with bluetooth. If I get a call it won't go back to playing the radio or bluetooth. Need to turn off car for awhile and start again! back camera sometimes blackout.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2020

My 2018 Chrysler Pacifica continues to stall while the car is in motion on the street. The last two occurrences happened when the car was moving at 25mph or higher with my foot on the gas pedal. This problem occurred prior to the fca v53 recall being issued, and has persisted even after taking the car in to be fixed under the recall. It seems to happen most often in the first 15 minutes of operating the car, and especially if I have gone above 30 miles an hour and then decelerate (like approaching a light). The car will lurch, shut off, all the indicator lights will come on, and then start/stop required will appear on the dashboard. The car always shuts off while in the "drive" position. Sometimes I am able to remedy the stalling quickly, and sometimes it takes more than three tries. One or more functions of the vehicle is always "unavailable" after this occurs. The sudden stopping has always been terrifying and unexpected. On the last two occasions (within a week of one another), I have come very close to being rear-ended with three babies in the back seat of my car. I have tried reaching out to Chrysler customer service to no avail. The reps have stated that I must return the car to the dealership where the v53 recall was performed but that dealership has gone out of business and I am left without a remedy. I am also concerned that Chrysler is well aware of this problem persisting even after the recall and has not remedied the situation. I am terrified that a very bad accident will occur due to this problem that Chrysler continues to ignore.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2020

Number of incidents pertaining to stop and start system. My wife was driving our kids to the store when coming to a stop (stationary) the start and stop system cut off dead stopping (stationary) us resulting in almost getting into an accident. Second time we were coming home and stopped (motion to stationery) as normal and the system jerked and stopped would not re start, turning the van on and off van started again and the car behind us was traveling regular speed luckily swerved and missed up and this happened a few more time during the period from owing this vehicle till now. (less than a year) total of 6 or more times all the events that have happened the van was in motion coming to a stop then stationary at a stoplight.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2020

Road vibration causes the speedometer gauge to rotate in the dash so the correct speed is not displayed. It has turned so far that the needle is now stuck on 40 mph. This also prevents you from seeing the dash indicator lights.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2019

Vehicle stalled out while driving. Emoted a burning smell. Made it to the side of the road and saw smoke. Opened the hood and saw the catilac converter was glowing red. Huge risk of fire.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

We bought the Chrysler van new in 2018. One year (~10,000 miles) later, the van developed rough upshifting. It does not happen every time but it occasionally bangs into gear very violently under slow acceleration at 30 - 35 mph. We took the van to Chrysler mechanics but they could not reproduce the rough shift so they would not do anything about it. Every time it happens, it scares me to death. It feels like a sledgehammer hit the van!.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2019

Car stops and sometimes it doesn't turn on.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2019

I purchased my vehicle 10/29/18 and its been a great vehicle til about July 2019. I have taken it to the dealership for them to fix a clicking noise in the front left side and everytime they change a bunch of parts but dont fix it. Now its a loud squeeking noise everytime I back out my driveway or pull off in drive. Ive taken 3 times and they cant figure out what it is. Ive have to rent a vehicle and the dealer also let me use a 2 door loaner knowing I have 4 kids. They keep saying bring it back Monday. Well thats only 1 problem. 3 times already when I put my car in reverse my backup camera comes on but dont go off when I put it in drive. So while im driving down the road my backup camera is on and is very distracting and dangerous. This past weekend my husband was driving while we were going somewhere, well we were in traffic on a very steep hill so he had to stop. When he went to step on the gas to go the car wouldnt go. It was like the car wasnt getting signal that the car was in drive. It was very scary. So many problems with this vehicle and the reason I purchase the 2018 Pacifica was because I heard it was a good car and dependable as I have 4 children that I have to get to and from school , doctors and sports. I really hope someone there at Chrysler can help me out.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2019

While using the park assist feature to park perpendicular my van started to backup too fast and backed me into a parked car prior to being able to hit the brakes in time. It resulted in damages to both my van and the parked car that it was attempting to park me next to.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2018

At approximately 130 miles, the electronic control module failed resulting in erratic acceleration and loss of vehicle control. The engine would violently go from 0 to 2000 rpms while driving.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2018

Was using park assist and the car did not park itself correctly and hit another car. While using park assist feature the car started to move too fast and the sterling wheel did not turn the car correctly. The car was moving so fast, there was no time to press the brake. In the result our car hit another parked car and jumped on the curb. In the result our rear bumper and rear door were damaged. We contacted Chrysler right away to tell what had happened, the representative told us to contact our insurance and then insurance will do investigation. When we contacted our insurance the representative said that Chrysler is the one who does the investigation. After that Chrysler was contacted by us numerous times, each time different representative, each time some information was missing from the case that investigation team could not start to do their investigation. So, each time I spoke with the representative (I have their names) we were adding missing information, and creating new case number. It took almost a month for the investigator to contact us to do the car inspection. By this time the car was fixed thru insurance. After the inspection took place Chrysler did not send us any solution or suggestion if park assist needs to be fixed. The only letter they send stating that since the car was fixed nothing they can do about this issue. So its unclear either all features in this car function properly. I think it's not fair that my insurance had to pay and made this accident as my fault.

28 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. When the contact pulled into a parking space, the brakes did not stop the vehicle and the gear did not shift into park. As a result, the vehicle crashed into a wall. The contact had to pump the brake pedal a couple of times until the vehicle stopped. The contact sustained a minor injury that did not require medical attention. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was damaged and driven to suburban Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram of garden city (734-421-5700, located at 32850 Ford rd, garden city, mi 48135), but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The dealer suggested that the contact might have depressed the accelerator pedal instead of the brake pedal. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2018

This vehicle with unsafe deadly driving conditions began as a new vehicle at around 1300 miles. Acceleration of Chrysler Pacifica while driving at 55 to 75 miles per hour with the engine of vehicle does not slow down but stays stuck and does not slow down and remains at a high rate of speed. Documented over 350 incidents of this subject Pacifica for 3 years. Often, I could not stop the engine from racing at its highest rate of speed while on freeways and other roads. This vehicles engine does not slow down and begin forced pumping of brakes making the vehicle rise in height and. . Ii could not stop this Pacifica engine from shutdown racing engine until I place the shift mechanism in neutral to slow it down and keep in from crashing into a forward vehcile object. The engine gets stuck in its former highest rate of speed for 30 to 45 seconds. On a good number of occasions I have taken this subject vehicle to ray lathem dealership in detroit, michigan. The dealership put thousands of miles on my leased vehicle and stated they did not know what the safety stuck acceleration problem was. Chrysler would not acknowledge any safety acceleration problems and I had my vehicle tested by software engineers and they advised me that the aforementioned Chrysler Pacifica has defective ut modules, powertrain control pcm reprogram module powertrain control. This Pacifica engine continued to stick causing the engine to race a its former highest rate of spped of 55 or 70 miles per hour. During winter weather like rain, snow or ice this vehicle would turn sideways while getting off the freeway service drive. While this is my 4th Chrysler Mini van I have placed my family children at high risk of being injured in a car accident. I have written the president of Chrysler and all this stress this cost me over 9,500 additional mileage penalties of . 28 cents per mile. . .
