The contact owns a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving 75 mph the vehicle accelerated and brake on its own and the warning message saying "pull over safety the engine will shut down" illuminated. The contact was able pull over and the vehicle shut down on its own. The contact was able to restart the vehicle, but the failure continued. The vehicle was towed to the dealer that stated that the vehicle needed a software updated. The vehicle was repaired but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed but no assistance was provide. The failure mileage was 58,000.
The issue is the pentastar v6 engine defect. It has caused engine misfires resulting in bucking and surging, decreased engine performance, hesitation, loss of power, premature wear on internal components. the potentially dangerous issues on the “defective design” of the engine’s needle bearings within the rocker arms, the use of sub-standard materials and procedures during manufacture, “defective or miscalibrated” ecm software, and poor quality controls. the defect causes unsafe driving conditions because the class vehicles, that includes 2020 Chrysler Pacifica, have a significant chance of failing while being driven. Further, even the lesser symptoms of the defect affect vehicle performance and safety, making it harder for a driver to control the vehicle as it loses power, hesitates, or misfires. The vehicle has only been inspected by the mechanic at the dealership we leased the vehicle from.
The contact owns a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving at 70 mph, the vehicle stalled and lost motive power, however after about 15 minutes the vehicle did restart and the vehicle was towed to the contacts residence. The contact stated that prior to the failure the vehicle was serviced on June 16, 2023 for a recall repair NHTSA campaign number: 23v210000. (electrical system, hybrid propulsion system) which was completed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
My family was driving down the highway and an error message came on the dashboard telling us to " stop safely. Vehicle will shut off soon". The vehicle lost acceleration power making it dangerous to change lanes. We made it to the shoulder and turned off the car. We called our service station since they had just done a recall update regarding these types of error messages. We were able to start the car again with only the engine service light on. We assumed there was some type of issue as we transferred from battery to gas since it's a hybrid. We had just drained the battery when this error message had appeared. However, this happened again less than an hour later into our trip but and our battery had gained some power due to hills. We again pull to the shoulder. We're able to turn off the car. Let rest for 1 minute restart and then it was drivable. In total this happened six times on this long distance trip. Never before have we had this issue. The car has 24,000 mi on it. Our safety was put at risk because we had to pull onto the shoulder on busy highways and restart the car. We've scheduled a service appointment at the first available time with the local dealership. We are currently out of town on vacation and cannot take it to the dealership that did the recall.
The car has lost power while driving multiple times. It was in the shop for many months more than once regarding the issue. An error came on the screen saying “vehicle speed may be reduced” then it stopped. The most recent time. After the recall fix. I got a second warning telling me to pull over because the car was going to stop. I barely made it off the highway into a parking lot. The time before that I was off the side of the road on a frontage road because the car could not make it to a parking lot.
While driving at highway speeds a warning flashed on the dashboard "stop safely vehicle will shut off soon". I was able to coast to safe stop off the highway and drive slowly on battery powered acceleration for a few miles until the vehicle completely died. The gas engine did not engage during this period. I shut the engine off with emergency lights on while on a two lane road. After restarting the engine, I drove for about 30 seconds before it completely failed again, and pulled off in a residential area. I waited about 5 minutes before restarting the engine and attempted to drive the vehicle again. The gas engine did not engage and the same warnings were displayed as we attempted to reach a charging station to get to safe place to stop. The vehicle lost all power again after about 20 seconds and we pulled over. I waiting about 10 minutes until restarting the vehicle and the gas engine engaged. We were able to drive the vehicle to a safe location to park and unload 2 kids and an infant. My family was absolutely at risk during this incident. I'm bringing the vehicle to a dealership immediately and considering a complete replacement. This is unacceptable. A family should not have to fear for their lives while driving a american made vehicle on american roads.
Since performing the latest recall (03a/NHTSA 23v-010) this car has gone into a "limp home mode" a half dozen times -often with a car full of children and at least once in a long construction zone on the washington DC beltway! the recall "fix" for the faulty transmission wiring was apparently to program the electronic control to recognize faulty wiring and put the car in "limp home mode" - supposedly this makes it safe! really? on DC beltway at night in a construction zone! the dealership told me that Chrysler would replace the transmission - 5/25/23. I have been in contact with the dealer numerous times and also Chrysler customer care. No one can give me a delivery estimate for the transmission and in the meantime, we continue to experience the total loss of power in the most horrible of circumstances. Neither Chrysler nor the dealer has offered a rental car or a loaner vehicle. This recall was totally inadequate to address the wiring and safety issue due to the lack of response from Chrysler to fix the actual problem.
Car stalled (engine stopped working) while driving on highway.
While driving in normal conditions most, if not all, of the van's dash warning lights lit up, the van came to a stop on its own (without input from driver) in the middle of the street, put itself in park and would not shift into drive again. This happened in the middle of the street and before it could be moved onto the shoulder. The battery had to be disconnected to allow the computer/electrical system to reset, only then would it move. We are very lucky that this occurred within a 35 mph zone and not in interstate traffic. Even with this happening in a lower speed zone it is still very dangerous for the van to stop unpredictably in the middle of traffic. Again, had this been on interstate it could have been deadly. When attempting to put into reverse or drive, the shifter would shift itself back into park. If placed in neutral the van would engage the electronic parking brake and would not disengage until placed back in park. Given that the main purpose of these vehicles is to ferry children, it is especially concerning that the van is behaving the way it is.
The vehicle stopped in February 2023 due to a power inverter problem (it’s subject to an nhsta safety recall). We were driving to florida from philadelphia when a “red turtle” warning light came on. We were able (luckily) to get off the highway before the vehicle stopped with all electrically systems impacted (the car wouldn’t even turn off). We managed to pull into a parking lot then had the vehicle towed to the nearest dealer. Since then we have been trying to get the car repaired to no avail.
The contact owns a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled after coming to a stop. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the dealer confirmed that the vehicle performed as designed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Problems with the entire dashboard electrical system going out and not coming back on for approx. 2 hrs. Until vehicle sits. Everything including the heat/ac, radio, nothing worked. Secondly the engine is and has been running rough even though oil changes performed every 4-5,000 miles full synthetic. Engine feels as if it needs an engine service or something. Vehicle has some jolting and stubborn acceleration at time as well.
The contact owns a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 23v010000 (electrical system, hybrid propulsion system); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
My car has had an electrical fire/smoke smell with no check engine or other warning lights on. No signs of overheating, etc. And now I=has been having. A hard up and down shift. Today while stopped at a light smoke was boiling out from underneath the hood.
I was driving the car around 70 mph on a highway with charged batteries and a 3/4 full tank of gas when the engine shut off a red dot appeared under the check engine light and a message appeared saying charging system fault, shift to park. Before this the van had been in the shop multiple times for a periodic check engine light that have a "cam shaft position sensor fault"message but the dealership was unable to locate the issue.
Vehicle completely lost all electrical and drivability components while driving. Car could not be restarted or shifted into gear to get out of lane. Gave multiple warning lights. Vehicle was towed to dealership and was assessed a few days later.
The contact owns a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact parked on the side of the road and attempted several times before the vehicle restarted and was able to drive to his residence. The contact stated he continued to experience the failure while driving. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000.
While stopped at a red light, the vehicle automatically put itself into park, activated the parking break, and turned off. Had to power the vehicle back on while still at the red light, turn off the parking break and put it back into drive.
The vehicle, shortly after starting, says service charging system and loses power completely. Power steering goes out along with any brake assist and no gas pedal power. I’ve almost hit several cars while trying to regain control of the vehicle. When I finally get it to stop, the work around I’ve found is to power off the car for a few minutes, power it back on, then it’ll work. But this happens about once a week. The dealer attempted a repair once but issue persists. We’re taking it back in. But based on online forums, this is a dangerous and widespread problem with the Pacifica hybrid. Please investigate! I have kids. Thanks!.
Has stalled on freeway twice now. All check engine lights come on, car goes into limp mode then stalls. Will not allow moving from park into drive. Has left us stranded 3 times. Chrysler including dealers not helpful.
While driving down the highway at about 65mph on battery, the car suddenly lost power when the battery reached <1% instead of immediately switching to gasoline powered mode. The car continued to slow down until it was stopped and gave an error saying to service the charging system. I was then able to turn the car off and restart it, from that point it continues in gasoline mode. This was a dangerous situation to loose power unexpectedly on a busy highway. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer.
I was returning home from a road trip and with five miles left the accelerator stopped working and the check engine light came on with the service electrical system message. I was able to safely coast to the side of the road. It started working again but it stopped working 5 more times and barely made it to my driveway. It’s been in the shop since 7/6 and now they say a new hybrid transmission will be in on 8/3. This is the worst situation that I have ever had with any vehicle!.
My car has been going thru the refresh for gas and oil for the last few days. The motor has been running to empty out the "old" gas. So today, I took it thru a car wash on a conveyor belt system, with cars behind me. At the end of this I went to put it in gear so I hit the brake from the neutral position and put it in drive. I hit the gas and it went nowhere! there was a note on the dash that said I had to put the car in park, hit the brake and then put it in gear. I did this and it finally started to move. The car and five others behind could have been in serious trouble if I didnt get this figured out quickly, damn close to causing a wreck inside the car wash. Now you tell me why a safety feature almost killed me?????.
Driving from PA to GA when after 775+ miles, and twenty five minutes from our destination we received an message indicating to pull over safety as the vehicle was coming to a stop. Three kids in car seats stuck on the highway waiting for a tow is not comforting. The car dealership plugged the vehicle into a charger and they indicated everything appeared fine. On the next leg of our journey driving to FL, we went about 350 miles before receiving the same message and braking down yet again. The engine eventually turned back on after 35 minutes and I was able to pulled into a charging station two miles away. We charged it 45% and make it to our destination some 175 miles later. We took it to another Chrysler dealership in FL and they indicated their was an issue with some temp sensors and performed updates to the hybrid control processor software. The three error codes we rec'd were: "stop safely, vehicle will shut off soon," "service charging system," "battery conditioning leave ignition in run. " there may have been a fourth. This is an extremely dangerous issue. We were fortunate that it happened in daylight hours and were able to pull off to the side of the road. Pray that we make the 1,200 miles track back to PA safety.
Severe shaking, or rough idle, when in park or drive but at stop. Chrysler dealership was washed their hands of this issue. I have had it in at least 4 times for rough idle/shaking issue. Has yet to be resolved and is still under warranty.
On two instances when traveling on the expressway, the car lost acceleration entirely and the dashboard provided an error message "service charging system". The car slowly decelerated and had to be pulled over to the side of the road, across several lanes of traffic, creating an extremely dangerous situation. Once the car was turned off and turned back on, it appeared to work normally. This happened once on March 1 and once on March 6.
I was sitting at a traffic light when an alarm went off the message came up that read "auto/start stop not available" my car automatically went into park on its own, the emergency brake came on and a warning light came on. I had to turn off the car and restart it. I was in very busy traffic. The light remained on until I was able to get home. It was a holiday weekend so I could not take to service station and it is my only vehicle. I turned the car on the next day and every thing was fine. This happened 3 months ago as well. The engine has not been stopping I noticed at a traffic light now.
The vehicle will hard shift randomly. The engine light comes on sometimes and the engine losses speed and power while driveing down the highway. I can sometimes cut the vehicle off and make it home safely other times it will not let me drive the vehicle at all. We have taken to dealer and they say they cant diagnose if light isnt on. Most of the time when the light is on I cant make it to the dealer because the vehicle will not drive. It has been confirmed by the scanner froma independent service center.
Vehicle shut off engine and directed driver to shift to park while driving at full speed on interstate highway. After coasting to emergency lane and shifting to park the vehicle restarted. The vehicle is currently at the dealership.
We've had issues with transmission since we purchased this vehicle in the brand new condition. The vehicle has a hard shifting problem and makes unusual noise. We've driven newer models of Pacifica that didn't have this problem. The issues are getting worse after numerous repairs made by Chrysler.
