While driving, vehicle chimes and displays "stop safely vehicle will shut off soon. " while brakes and steering remain available, throttle control is instantly gone and vehicle needs to be coasted to a safe stop. Upon powering off and waiting ~10 minutes, the vehicle will restart (with check engine light and "service charing system" displayed) and drive normally. This situation happened four times while attempting to make it back home safely (once on an interstate traveling ~70 mph, twice on a highway traveling ~55 mph, and once in town at ~30 mph). Thankfully all situations had adequate shoulder and understanding traffic, but with instant loss of power, the vehicle is incredibly dangerous.
Driving down highway on a business trip. Van flashed on screen with message to pull over immediatley and showed a red turtle. This was dangerous as I was in the far left lane and had to quickly pull over. Then to sit on the side of the highway and wait for a tow truck. With my 3 children in the car, I did not feel safe. Vehicle was sent to dealer where the kept for 6 days and only reset the codes and told me it was good to go. This vehicle has a known defect in the transmission.
Outside temperature was over 80 degrees, we were driving long distance on a highway. First the air conditioning failed. Then the "remaining miles on battery" started to go up ( even though it had been a long time since we charged). When it got to about 12, we got a dashboard message that said "engine shutting down, get to a safe place". We pulled over just in time as the engine did shut off, the shutdown happened in about 15 seconds. The car did not restart for at least 30 minutes. Message said something about "check charging system". This happened repeatedly, leaving us in dangerous conditions on the side of the very busy highway. "check engine" light was on. At least once we had a message that said something about "check powertrain". One dealer checked the code on his computer, but could not help any further as they were too busy. He would not give us the paper with the code. We took the car to a dealer when we got home. The "check engine" light had turned off, but the dealer cannot find any problems with the car. It is a huge safety problem when your car shuts down with very little notice. We are afraid to drive the car now.
While driving on major highway, a/c stopped blowing cold air. Out side temperature above 80 degrees. Engine light came on, and later quick warning to this effect" caution, car will shut off soon" and less than 15 seconds or so engine turned off and we luckily coasted across lanes to the breakdown lane. That could have been disastrous! car would not restart. After about an hour we were able to restart the car and driver again for maybe 30 minutes before ac shut off again. This time we made it to an unscheduled hotel. Next morning car was fine, ran fine to our destination. 4 days later driving home. Temp above 80. Driving for more than 3 hours. . Same sequence; ac shuts off, caution warning, engine shutdown.
While driving all warning lights came on on the dashboard. Said pull over, car will stop. Car would not move . After a while it would start again and warning cleared. Had scan done . Multiple communication failure codes for multiple modules. Had codes cleared. Waiting for next time. Chat forums indicate this is common and usually leads to the can buss star connector defective where the multiple modules plug in.
My vehicle is in perfect shape with no body damage and fewer than 28,000 miles. Today I was at a very busy intersection and when the car attempted to restart , it suddenly decided that my hood was open and it would not restart. It left me stranded. I ended up thinking quickly and pulling the hood latch exiting my vehicle and pushing the hood down. The vehicle it has the feature that stops the engine when I stop at a stop light. I do not think that the hood was open. I had it in for service over a month ago, that would have been the last time that anyone opened the hood. I was stranded, had to exit my vehicle in a very high traffic area. Luckily, the car restarted when I tried again. This default position is very dangerous. I turned off the feature that shuts off the engine at a stop. I understand a warning that the hood is open, but I do not understand stopping the vehicle from starting and placing the driver in a very dangerous position.
It was a rental car, driving on freeway , warning light will come up , saying engine will shut off. The van had no power, and I had to pull over. I turned off the car for 2-5 minutes and restart. Then the car will accelerate again. I had to drive from la to las vegas. It started doing that after loma linda , CA [xxx] , on [xxx]). It took me 7 hours to get to las vegas. Because of the constant shut off warning. I had no choice but to do this because sixt rental car couldn't get another car to me for 5-6 hours wait. Van lost motive power and screen showed the attached warning message. Waiting on dealership to replace the transmission, but it's backordered with no estimated availability.
While driving on the interstate, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration without warning. With several 18 wheelers having to brake and swerve behind us, we had to navigate onto the shoulder of the interstate. We had to wait on the side of the interstate for an hour for a tow truck to take us to the nearest dealership. We took the car into the dealership and they kept it for several days and then reported that the car just needed a new battery (12v, not hybrid). I expressed concern with the dealership and later after contacting Chrysler that a dead battery shouldn't cause the car to suddenly lose acceleration while driving, because that is an obvious safety risk, but was told again it was just a dead battery. I also received no invoice from the dealership and was told that it would be emailed to me as soon as they could since a cyberattack had made them unable to issue invoices.
Shortly into my trip home from work, I entered onto the interstate and accelerated up to speed. Within a minute the vehicle seemed to slow down and I had no power using the accelerator pedal. The vehicle continued to slow and the gas engine failed to turn on. (this is a phev hybrid model). Eventually the vehicle lost all power and I was able to park it along the side of the interstate. The vehicle was still on, ac and electoral systems worked. After about 5 minutes, gas engine spontaneously started back up. I was able to gain speed start bad down the road. Approximately 3 min later, gas engine shuts down and same process occurred. This cycle took place about 6 times before vehicle would not start up anymore and ultimately had to be towed. After a week, dealership is not sure what’s wrong as the transmission has been replaced which did not fix the problem. Dealership is now planning to replace the pim module although there is an over 45day wait and they are unsure if that will fix the problem.
In April 2024 our vehicle turned off while driving with our children in the car. A warning light came on stating the car would lose power, it did within 30 seconds. Our transmission was replaced. In June 2024, the same thing happened on the interstate putting us in an extremely unsafe and scary situation. Our power inverter module now needs to be replaced and the repair has been ongoing for over a month.
On a road trip with my 2022 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid with 20k miles, was driving on the freeway when this message came up "stop safely vehicle will shut down". Vehicle immediately lost power and I pulled onto shoulder but was in a bad location to be broken down. Got out check fluids etc, all fine. Then cycled vehicles a few times and was able to limp it to a gas station. Finally got it going again and continued driving. I will now have to tow it home because it is unsafe.
While driving on the highway in rush hour traffic I got a message to pull over when it was safe to do so, and the car started losing power. The breakdown lane was in use for traffic, so I had to drive 1/2 mile to find a safe spot with the car going much more slowly than the flow of traffic. I turned the car off, and opened the door to 'reset' it, then nervously pulled back out into traffic. I was able to drive to about a mile from my house, and I got the message and lost power again. I go the car to my mechanic, who said that the car had transmission failure. I had the car towed to the dealer, who confirmed as much.
I had just entered the highway and was at 70mph maybe 3 minutes into the drive, the engine hiccuped with a slight loss of power and the dashboard lit up with a message: “stop safely. Vehicle will shut off soon” and the transmission light came on. Outside temp: 78 degrees, ac on, stereo on I pulled over to the side of the highway, turned the car off and then back on and the message was still there. I sat for about 5 minutes with the car off and restarted. The stop safely message was gone but the transmission light was on. The van drove normally the remaining 8 miles home. Once home, I turned it on and off periodically and the transmission light was still on but no stop safely message. This morning I turned the car on and the transmission light was no longer on.
On 5/6/24 I was driving on the highway when suddenly a warning came on the dashboard that said stop safely. The vehicle will shut off soon. I was able to quickly get off the highway and I barely made it into a gas station. I had to cross several lanes of oncoming traffic to do this, and by that time, the vehicle was literally shutting down and I, barely made it into the gas station. My safety was put at risk because I was going 55 miles an hour on a highway that had no shoulder to pull off to and I had no idea how long I had until the vehicle was going to shut down. I was so terrified of being stuck on this highway that I took a risk by exiting the highway worrying the whole time that I would get stuck at any moment. Because it was a Monday and a very busy day for tow trucks I had to wait 3 1/2 hours for a tow truck to come. I was in a part of town. I would never normally stop in because it is not safe. As a said earlier, the warning light came on the dash suddenly.
We were driving our van uphill and about to go through a stoplight when the van suddenly lost all power and multiple warning lights came on. We turned the car off and on several times over maybe 5-10 minutes, 3 stoplight cycles until we were able to get power back and proceed through the light, causing a lot of traffic backup and unsafe situation because drivers were going into oncoming traffic lanes to get around us. The car would not move at all until we got power back. It then was ok until a couple days later it lost power again. That time, it was on a flat road and able to creep the 3 blocks home at about 5mph. Presumably the first time, it couldn't move at all because we were on an uphill? we had it towed to Chrysler and the transmission was replaced. We have had multiple other issues with this car but our request for a buyback was denied. I am concerned about the safety and reliability of this car.
While driving on the freeway an indicator light of a red turtle lit up with a message "stop safely, vehicle will shut off soon". After pulling over to the side of the road, turning the car off and back on message was gone. The same message appeared twice again wile continuing to drive on the freeway on the same drive. The third time took an off-ramp to get off the freeway and after a short while gas pedal did not respond. Eventually mad it home and took the car to the dealership. Identified transmission needs to be replaced and service was preformed on the vehicle. If I were not able to pull over at a relatively safe location on the freeway the car may have shut off in the middle of the freeway putting us and other motorists at great danger. . Read more...
Driving on a city street, shortly after driving out of a parking lot, and suddenly the message 'stop safely - vehicle will shut off soon' showed on the dash, including a check engine light and a red turtle icon. After pulling over on a busy city street and waiting 10 minutes, I was able to start back up and keep driving. The cel light stayed on but not the 'stop safely' message.
We experienced a loss of vehicle power while on the highway. The vehicle suddenly went from 70 to 37mph while alerting us to pull over (no prior warning), and the the vehicle would soon come to a stop. We were forced to cross 4 lanes of traffic in order to pull over to the side of a major highway during rush hour. The vehicle had our whole family in it at the time, 2 adults and 2 children under 12. The vehicle put us and all others on the road in danger due to the sudden and unexpected loss of power. We were lucky not to cause a serious accident at the time of the incident. Furthermore, we are fortunate that the vehicle was not struck while on the shoulder of road. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed as a transmission failure by the local Chrysler dealer. There was no previous warnings or issues with the vehicle prior to this incident.

My wife was driving our 2022 Pacifica hybrid touring l to work on 101 freeway when a message came up on the console "stop safely. Vehicle will shut off soon" within minutes and while she was in the middle lane of the freeway and the speed shutdown to 19mph causing cars behind to almost collide with our van. Drivers showed road rage towards her. She was able to coast to the freeway exit. We got the van towed to a dealer where it is now. I have read many reports of this same thing happening to may others. Something needs to be done about this.
We got this message on the dashboard that the vehicle will shut off please pull over safely in the middle of freeway. I couldn't do that and was stuck in highway shoulder with kids and family in the car for couple of hours. This was scary.
Vehicle lost power & shut itself off while driving on highway at around 70 mph.
Vehicle stopped twice while driving on the highway. Very scary. The car forced me to stop. I got an email from the vehicle at the time of the incident saying it was a powertrain failure. And the dealer says its a transmission issue the vehicle displayed this on the dashboard when it was stopping. Safely - vehicle will shut off soon.
Ever since delivery of our vehicle it would seem to have a hard shift between the electric and gas motor. Recently, we were driving one morning and noticed that when the gas engine kicked in, the rpm’s were much higher than usual. Later that day we received the “stop safely the vehicle will shut off soon” message along with a check engine light. Shortly thereafter the vehicle went into limp mode. We are very lucky this happened in town as opposed to on the highway or in a remote area where this would pose an even more serious safety risk. Especially with young children on board. We then brought the vehicle to the nearby dealer where they found p0a43-00 “drive motor "a" position sensor” and c0063-9a “ yaw rate sensor-component or system operating conditions” codes present. After nearly a week of troubleshooting and opening up a “star” case, the dealership is now in the process of acquiring and replacing the transmission on our vehicle. This seems to be related to the recent recall 03a “loss of motive power” and Chrysler TSB 21-008-23 affecting the internal transmission wiring connector. Our recall was completed promptly after issuance but this did not address the underlying issue of the internal transmission wiring connector. Our van is just over one year old and has under 21,000 miles on it. Needless to say this is unacceptable for a vehicle of this age, use, and especially msrp! we purchased this vehicle as a safe option for our family and now we have lost confidence.
While on interstate in busy atlanta traffic received loss of power warning. Engine is about to stop pulled over to side of road, but shoulder was very narrow and feared for our lives as car was very close to traffic lane. Called Chrysler roadside assistance. Long delay. After a couple of attempts to restart, I was able to get off the road into a shop. Mechanic reported code p0a43. Drive motor sensor. Taking to dealer tomorrow. After half a mile car would not move, and this could have resulted in a fatal accident if I couldn’t get to the shoulder. Previously reported to dealer knocking in transmission when accelerating and decelerating. Dealer said that was normal. However, my previous 2022 Pacifica hybrid did not do that.
On three separate occasions (December 2023-February 2024), while driving in temperatures below freezing, our 2022 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid dashboard gave the following warning, along side the illumination of a red turtle warning light: "stop safely. Vehicle will shut off soon. " the vehicle then lost the ability to accelerate, and the speed dropped significantly and immediately. Two of the three times, my one and three year old were in the vehicle and there was no shoulder on the 50mph road we were traveling on after sunset. Fortunately, the three times this happened, we were less than a half mile from our home and we coasted downhill to the bottom of our driveway. Our vehicle has now been at a certified Chrysler dealership for three full business days, and the technician "has no idea what is wrong," "is still working on it," "has no idea how long it will take to fix," and "has no rental or loaner cars available" for our family while we wait for our family's mode of transportation to be returned. They claim they are unable to recreate the issue, so they cannot fix it. We showed them a picture of the dashboard, but that is not enough for them. It is currently 72 degrees in dayton, OH, and the issue has never occurred in temperatures above 30 degrees. Thus, I doubt they will be able to "recreate" the issue until next winter. They've offered no other options or resolution until they can "recreate the issue. ".
While driving on a highway (never at slower speeds), a message will display on the dash that says "stop safely, vehicle will shut off soon. " the car then begins to decelerate and I have less than a minute to pull off the road. This issue began in December 2023. The car has been with the dealership from Feb 16 to present (April 4). The dealership was able to reproduce the problem. I am told it's related to the transmission, and am still waiting on a status update.
Driving from louisiana to kansas for the holidays in our 2022 Pacifica hybrid, and received notice popped up that car was about to shut down and pull off road quickly. This appears to be associated with a recall we did take the car in for but apparently the recall only changed software to tell you the car was about to shut down and didn't fix the issue with the car actually shutting down! this happened to us 4 times. 3 times we had time and space to pull over, wait, and restart. 4th time was immediate note and shutdown but fortunately we were at a stop light and cars could go around us until we were able to restart. We could have been seriously injured or killed had this happened on a busy interstate. This was a Saturday so no service open and I couldn't risk putting my family back in that car so Monday when dealership was open I drove to dealership. Renting a car was to be very expensive $3500 or so to drive back up around end of year. No dealers within 60 miles could even look at the car for several days, and repair was going to be 1-3 months from what dealer and on-line info about it looked to be. My best option was to trade it off when I got it to the dealership but a very costly option! this issue needs to be fixed or people are going to be seriously injured or killed. The warning doesn't give but a few seconds to get off the road and that won't work on an interstate going through a major city! I don't know if the car is fixed as the dealer has it now and we have a new pacific at much cost to us.
This letter is for a near fatality while driving my new 2022 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid on October 30th, 2023. While driving back home on a dark and stormy night with poor visibility on i87 north my 2022 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid shutdown nearly causing a fatal accident. My 3 kids (ages 4, 5, and 8) were in the car with me. The car blinked power and I lost motor function (no acceleration), the car went from around 70-75 miles per hour to almost 40 forcing me to try and get over to the shoulder. During this stressful process a mac truck nearly ran us off the road dramatizing me and my kids. While on the shoulder I tried everything to get the car back on, after turning off and on the car several times I was able to drive very slowly (max speeds of 1-20 miles per hour) with me pressing the gas pedal at full throttle. I was able to get off the new palz exit which was 4 miles from the incident and call triple a for a tow truck back to dutches Dodge. Since the incident, I've been working with fca and looking for guidance on what can be done for my family. The process has been very difficult with dutches Dodge refusing to talk to us. Chrysler failed me with an unsafe car, I feel punished for being a responsible and safe driver. I brought in the car for recall 03a/NHTSA 23v-010 in July which did a software update for an internal transmission wiring connector. Based on the fca case 87814953, I was told the star investigation found fault 21-008-23 which is for the internal transmission wiring connector. The software update does not seem to fix the issue, how many others are at risk? the car was proposed new on 12/13/2023 and had less than 12000 miles on it, all we know is the car needs an entire new transmission and new recall which we were not aware of for a serpentine belt. How can Chrysler assure us that the issue is fixed? since the incident I have been dealing with post traumatic stress. Apart from having to take time off work and losing motivation I've felt that fca does.
There has been several incidents where we experienced sudden engine loss and the vehicle and computer powered off while operating the vehicle. We reported these safety concerns to autonation carlsbad and they were unable to recreate this problem. We have escalated these concerns to the Chrysler’s retention team. Their retention team recommends that we scheduled a follow up service appointment with a second service department.
We were driving on the highway when we got a warning to pull over safely as the vehicle will shut down soon. The accelerator became unresponsive, and the vehicle began losing power. This has happened a number of times and we took it into the dealer who replaced the transmission. However, on various social media sites, it has been reported that this has been happening to many many people. This is an extremely dangerous situation for so many people unaware of the potential. As I understand it, they replace the transmission with a like transmission. The problem is not actually being solved. They are simply offering a short term fix with the potential for it to happen again. It is reported by others that their second transmission has done the same thing. Below is one example of a social media post where others have claimed the same issue. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Loss of power while driving at high speed, almost caused crash. The dealership technician inspected and updated pim software and claimed that it won't happen again. However, the van shut down again while driving on a highway on the 2nd day after the "pim software update". The car is currently with dealership with no information shared regarding what is causing engine shut down.
Driving on the highway and the car stalled. Was told to pull over due to loss of power with a red turtle on the screen. This has been happening to allot of people. Barely had time to get over. There was a recall software update to provide warning, but that just gives warning but does not fix the issue as its a transmission problem. Now check engine light is on and has to go to dealer.
7/19/23 - dash warning to pull over because car was going to turn off (from recall software update). (image attached) unclear how long I had and upcoming road was more dangerous, so I pulled over in an area with highway speed traffic and only half a shoulder. Car did not reset on first attempt to restart and stuck in "turtle mode" (<10 mph). When I called the dealership, they originally offered me the roadside assistance number, then talked me through reset over phone when I pushed back that I was not in a safe spot with cars flying past me. I was able to drive <10 minutes to dealer after car reset. They were able to get codes and confirm car is undrivable and I need a new transmission. As of 7/28 they still have my car with no update on when part will be shipped. Prior warning: on 7/11, dash showed "put in p to park" alternating with "press brake and push button to start" while driving down the road (note d for drive in lower right on attached images, also photo of car still on/in run). This started at the same time the car bucked and the check engine light came on solid. (another image shows the red battery warning light in upper left that came on when car was put in park as other messages continued to alternate. ) I pulled over and turned off car. While waiting and thinking about what to do next, the car restarted on its own. (it is possible I pressed button 2x to turn off as I recall it didn't react. But restart was a full minute later!) restarted. Dealership seemed unconcerned, despite the known issue with Pacifica hybrids. Same issue occurred 7/12. On 7/13 the radio rebooted while driving down the road with no warning. (radio issues have been ongoing and may be related to overall electrical issues?). On morning of 7/19 when final issue occurred, the radio didn't work at first. On 7/14, I pushed dealership to get software recall update that day as it did not feel safe to drive with the ongoing issues. Recall software update was in place before 7/19 incident.
