Front Seat Heater/cooler Problems of Chrysler Pt Cruiser

The contact owns a 2005 Pt Cruiser turbo convertible. The contact stated that the vehicle caught fire, while the vehicle was turned off. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The fire department filed a report and diagnosed that the seat heater ignited the fire. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure and current mileage was 65,000. The VIN was unavailable.

The panel that controls the drivers seat keeps breaking and wires are exposed from the panel. The first time it happened my battery went dead. It and the panel were replaced at the same time. Less than two weeks later it broke again and wires are exposed. I called Chrysler dealer and their complaint line. I am waiting for a call from a service manager that is never available. They say it is not covered by warranty but repaired the first time since I was a good customer. I called when it happened the second time. They said they would order the part and repair it. I waited for a week for some response and called back. They had no record of me calling. I am driving this car with this panel hanging loose and feel like it is a big safety issue.

While letting my car warm up, with the heated seats on low, the drivers seat started smoldering, and filled the car with smoke. I phoned 911 for the fire truck. The cushion under the leather upholstery disintegrated under the heat. The car is a 2003 Pt Cruiser gt turbo, with only 23000 km. I have not contacted my dealer, yet.

Heated seats went on by themselves and poor/dangerous location of on/off switch (on seat base between seat and door) is unsafe.

Consumer is complaining of the heated seat switch which is mounted on the out board side of the drivers seat. This switch cannot be seen when sitting in the seat. Consumer feels the swithch is improperly positioned. Also, when moving in both the passenger and the drivers seat the switch is easily agitated and will come on when it is not needed.
