1 Wheel Rim problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 06/27/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 45 mph, she experienced two tire blowouts on two separate occasions. The first blowout was on the rear driver side and the second was on the rear passenger side. The dealer replaced the rear passenger side rim and determined the rim was the actual cause of the tire failure. The other 3 rims were not replaced because the dealer advised there were no defects found on the rims. The contact experienced two additional tire blowouts due to the failure. The vehicle was left with the dealer where the contact was awaiting repairs and a diagnostic of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 39,000 and the current was unknown.

2 Wheel Rim problem of the 2004 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 04/18/2008

Stock Chrysler 17" chrome aluminum wheels are defective. They are rusting from the inside out causing the tire to lose air pressure. Was take to the dealership to get inspected - after which I was told that Chrysler does not warranty defective materials if the vehicle is over 3 years old or has more than 36,000 miles. Even though I have an extended warranty for 7 years/85,000 miles. An the rotting from the inside of the rim is not limited to a specific to the vehicle of Chrysler's production. It effects all makes an models with the chromed aluminum rims. Sebring - Pt Cruiser - pacfica - etc. An giving the fact the rims don't hold air I believe that could be a major safety issue because that effect the handling an braking which could cause the car to lose control. Chrysler is still currently sell's the same product on there new cars. Even though there have been numerous complaints about the wheels an there defect. But do to the fact that by the time the customer notices there rims are defective the 3 years/36,000 miles is up. An the customer who bought the car is told they aren't under warranty but if you would like to order a new set they would be happy to do so at the expense of the owner's pocket book. I believe Chrysler practice's are wrong on how they operate - by selling the customer what is ultimately defective materials. I have talked with other Chrysler vehicle owner's with the chrome aluminum rims an have told me they fought Chrysler an that they too have to replace air in the tire every other day like myself. P. S. Due to the defective rims I am required to put atleast 20+ psi in my tires every other day.

3 Wheel Rim problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 12/12/2007

The original chrome wheels on my Chrysler 2001 Pt Cruiser have continually lost air for at least the past two years. I have to add air every several days. Both the mechanic at the tire shop and my own mechanic said there was nothing wrong with the tires, but the pitting of the wheels was causing air to leak out. This is a problem that should not happen on a six year old car with 80,000 miles. I was unable to return to the dealer because ownership has changed several times since I bought the car and it is out of warranty. I believe this is a manufacturing defect that may cause a loss of air at high speed and lead to a crash. This is a known problem that has been documented on several websites, but has not been addressed by Chrysler.

4 Wheel Rim problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 08/04/2007

The rims on my 2005 Pt Cruiser (22,000miles) need to be replaced due to leaks. I have been told by a goodyear dealer that many chrome rims are corroded. I also have heard from other pt owners that they had to replace their rims. Has there been a problem/recall?.

5 Wheel Rim problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 06/06/2007

2001 Pt Cruiser tire pressure loss from chrome plating failing on the rims allowing air loss I wish to document my extreme dissatisfaction concerning my experience with Chrysler concerning what I have come to learn is without question, a serious manufacturerã‚s defect with the wheels of my car. The wheels have not provided anywhere near a reasonable service life and whose problem had been misdiagnosed until the basis of failure had degraded until its cause was without question, apparent. I have also learned that problem is also recognized by Chrysler service dealerships as a routine problem, is abundantly documented and widespread on focused websites related to this vehicle and is problem familiar to each tire shop I have gone to. Without question this problem poses an extreme danger to drivers of the vehicle who unknowingly will drive on a potentially extremely under-inflated tire. Their position in my opinion to merely ã‚not recognize it as a problemã‚쳜 and not warn the owners of your vehicle to alert them to this common problem is unconscionable, callous and constitutes an extreme hazard to the driving public.

8 Wheel Rim problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Tires are going flat. Have repeatedly taken to tire dealer to fix tires. Yesterday was told the problem is the wheels and not the tires.

9 Wheel Rim problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 01/12/2007

I was driving down the road and my wheel split. It was the original rim on the 2001 Pt Cruiser. I had to replace all four rims, and went with non original because I was told that Chrysler had problems with them.

2001 Pt Cruiser with 16 inch chrome wheels. Chrome is flaking on the bead edge of the wheels causing the tires to loose pressure. Mine have been slow leaks, but leaks could be fast. Tires go down unexpectedly, can cause accidents. Tire repair shop said common failure. Sees it regularly.

15 Wheel Rim problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 08/01/2006

I currently own a 2001 Pt Cruiser with 50,000 miles on it. To date, I have had three different mechanics tell me that the wheels/rims are deteriorating/peeling and should be replaced under warranty. As a result, I am also constantly putting air in some of the tires. My greatest worry, is having a "tire blow out" while traveling at higher speeds. I have also noticed that many other Pt Cruiser owners are experiencing the same problem. If the manufacturer of this vehicle is not willing to compensate me for the replacement of all four wheels, I have no other choice but to turn this over to the attorney general's office and/or media. This is clearly a safety issue and should be addressed accordingly.

17 Wheel Rim problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 06/01/2006

2001 Pt Cruiser - chrome is peeling from rims which causes air to leak from tires. Second set of tires is now installed but rims had to be re-sealed after about 10k miles. Rims were resealed once before. Chrysler was contacted with no resolution. They refused to acknowledge a problem on their part.

18 Wheel Rim problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 04/27/2006

I have had two blow outs within the last year and I wake up to flat tires in the morning on a regular basis. I have had to check the tire pressure in my car at least twice weekly (and most times at least one tire will have shockingly low pressure). I have had all of my tires replaced within the last year or so with no relief to my problem. I thought that maybe it was me until I read all the other complaints and realized that this was a product problem. This is total safety hazard for anyone driving a Pt Cruiser with these rims. Does someone have to die for someone to listen and recall these (potentially) deadly rims?.

19 Wheel Rim problem of the 2003 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 02/15/2006

The contact owns a 2003 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. The contact stated that all of the original rims are rusting and flaking on the inside. The rims destroy any tire that is placed on the vehicle. 21 Wheel Rim problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 11/07/2005

2001 Pt Cruiser, 69000 miles. Original owner and rims. Rims, according to dealer are rusted inside and will no longer hold air. Chrysler doesn't seem to think this is abnormal for a 4 year old car and would do nothing for me. I think they are defective and should be recalled as I have heard/read on the web about other Pt Cruisers having the same exact problem.

22 Wheel Rim problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 09/30/2005

I have a 2001 Pt Cruiser with chrome rims and less than 60,000 miles on it. These came on the car when I purchased it. The rims are peeling which is leading to air being lost in the tires. My tire dealer tells me this is common with these rims and many Chrysler dealers are replacing the rims at no cost to the consumer. Chrysler knows this is happening and it is a hazard. It is unreasonable of Chrysler to expect the consumer to have to replace rims on a car that was well taken care of.

23 Wheel Rim problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 08/13/2005

On Saturday Aug 13, 2005 my wife and I had a flat on our 2001 Pt Cruiser on the right front. On Monday Aug 15, 2005 I took the tire and had it fixed. The problem was that the chrome on the inside of the rim was peeling and the tire was not adhering to the rim. On Tuesday Aug 16th I took the car into the Chrysler dealer and had them look at the problem. They confirmed what the tire dealer said. I talked with the garage advisor and he stated that I was not the first person with this problem. The solution was to buy new rims. I called the Chrysler hot line number 1-800-992-1997 and spoke with customer service reps crystal and carol and finally carol said that the 3 year warranty was up. My problem with this is that the rims are starting to peel on the early additions of the make of car and that it has taken 5 years or so for this to be noticed. My flat tire came on I-465 in indianapolis at 60 mph. There was no accident, but if this has happened on more than one car in indianapolis, what about the nation. I have a problem with a rim that doesn't last for more than 5 years and its impossible to detect until it happens. I asked carol, at Chrysler, on what it took to start a recall or have someone look into it and all she said was that she would put it on file. Mike, at my dealers, said that all my rims were starting to do this. There is something wrong with these rims. My car has 42,000 miles on it. Most of these type of cars are owned by older people and they might not be able to handled a blow out.

24 Wheel Rim problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 06/24/2005

I own a 2001 Pt Cruiser. Starting in 2003 I began to experience loss of air in the front passenger tire. I just returned from the garage where I have the car serviced. The mechanics showed me the inside of the wheel which has oxidized. They attempted to seal the bead with "goop," but advise that I will need to replace the entire wheel in the near future. They state further that they see this problem on jeeps and other Chrysler products as well.

25 Wheel Rim problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 06/06/2005

Wheels on car are splitting. Physically separating. Tires consistently lose air. People at dealership have told us that this is a known problem, and they have replaced on other cars. Service mgr stated that " he wouldn't be surprised if there was a recall on wheels. The condition has caused premature tire wear and flats. I am concerned regarding wheels actually separating totally while on road and causing an accident. Chrysler and dealer both say they will not replace.

26 Wheel Rim problem of the 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 05/01/2005

Chrome wheels peeling, especially around valve stems, producing minute leaks in air pressure of tires, despite replacement of valve stems. Have contacted dealership where the car was purchased with no response.

27 Wheel Rim problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 03/25/2005

For the last few months, I had been having problems getting with my tires being flat when I got up in the mornings. After having all of the tires checked for flats, it would still do this off and on during the winter. Finally, I took it to a firestone shop and they said my tires were fine, but the chrome was peeling off the wheels causing the slow leaks. I took it to the dealer and my 36k/3y had expired (by 1/2 year, as I only have 30k miles) and they said there was nothing that they would do, I'm going to call Chrysler and lodge a formal complaint, now that I see I"m not the only one with this problem.

28 Wheel Rim problem of the 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 03/21/2005

29 Wheel Rim problem of the 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 03/01/2005

: the contact stated, on 3/1/05 all tires were low. Upon inspection by the service dealer, corrosion was found on the rims of all four tires, causing the seal between the tire and rims to be broken. The tires were removed and all tires and rims were cleaned and placed back onto the vehicle. The manufacturer was alerted. The manufacturer determined there was no liability on the manufacturer because the vehicle's warranty was expired. Updated 11/3/2006 -.

30 Wheel Rim problem of the 2004 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 02/05/2005

I bought a 2004 pt/gt cruiser new(12 miles) from the dealer in 02-05. The day I left the property I noticed a serious vibration at speeds higher than 45 mph. I notified the dealer , took the car back for correction problem not solved. Twice the car has returned , still no solution. Today(03-10-05), dealer notifies me that the problem is an egineering problem --wheel/rim size-- corrected by Chrysler in the 2005 model. This issue was not told to me prior to purchase. The dealer refuses to correct the problem and told me "take it to arbritration!" this car is not safe at speeds over 45 mph with the current problem.

31 Wheel Rim problem of the 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 02/01/2005

Had tires changed at dealer. After tire change, two of the tires began leaking. After several trips to the dealer to have them checked, dealer finally decided that the chrome-plated rims were corroded and had to be replaced. Now, after having two more tires replace, the new tires are leaking and I am afraid that I will have to pay for two more rims.

32 Wheel Rim problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 12/01/2004

The chrome on 3 of the wheel rims peeled, Chrysler replaced all 3 rims. The 4th rim started to peel at the stem of the tire which made the tire leak air.

33 Wheel Rim problem of the 2003 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 10/30/2004

The spare tire did not fit on the rim of the front tires. The car has been taken to the dealership and they would not replace the tire. The manufacturer has been contacted also and they were not any help either. The owner has tried to put the spare tire on the front when she had a flat, but that did not work. The spare also doesn't fit the front. This has been a problem since 2004, when the owner noticed it. The owner went and bought brand new tires, but did not buy a 5th tire to make a new spare. It is the rim that is the problem, not the tire itself.

34 Wheel Rim problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 08/20/2004

The rims are losing air. They have been repaired 3 times by tire manufacturer for this problem. The inside of the crone wheels, where the tread beads sit on the rim, have pits and blisters in the crone. Dealership attempted to put a sealer in to correct the problem, but it didn't work. This has been a common problem with these wheels.
