Air Conditioner problems of the 1996 Chrysler Sebring

Seven problems related to air conditioner have been reported for the 1996 Chrysler Sebring. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Air Conditioner problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2004

Air conditioner compressor seized while driving causing belt to burn and break.

2 Air Conditioner problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2001

Air conditioner evaporator quit working at 86,000 miles. I am unable to read the mileage on the car . The odometer is not lit up. The tachometer is not working either.

3 Air Conditioner problem

Failure Date: 10/15/1997

Took car in to 3 different dealers to have them fix water leaks & air whistling and none could fix it. They said there was a flaw in the design of the top. They tried spraying foam on edge, adding an elastic strap (#8894 part), tried adjusting top - none of these exercises worked. Now yet another dealer in joplin too tells us there's nothing that can be done as it's a flaw in the design/construction. There is also a whistling in the a/c system or vents when a/c is on and driving 40+ miles an hour. Several times while driving in "d" the transmission doesn't shift out of low gear.

4 Air Conditioner problem

Failure Date: 08/25/1997

A/c failed.

5 Air Conditioner problem

Air conditioner failed.

6 Air Conditioner problem

According to the shop who is working on my airconditioning, the hose is on backorder nationwide. They said the dealer said it is almost a recall because the air cond hoses are failing so often that they can't get them in stock.

7 Air Conditioner problem

While driving, a/c compressor seized, and resulting friction caused belt to smolder and break, disabling the vehicle.
