Six problems related to automatic transmission park/neutral start switch have been reported for the 1998 Chrysler Sebring. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Transmission slipped into reverse without key in on postion. Consumer reached across gear shift,and knocked shift lever out of park, causing vehicle to roll. Existing problem. Chrysler was notified. Please provide more information.
Vehicle jumped from park to into reverse without the keys in ignition. Dealer has been contatced. Please provide further details.
Vehicle was parked inside of driveway, consumer's daughter was inside of the vehicle. The keys were not in the ignition. Car started to roll and the daughter jump out of the vehicle, and vehicle rolled into a ditch.
Vehicle can be shifted from park at any time (key or no key) may be similar to recall number 98v183000, although this vehicle is outside recall dates/VIN.
This vehicle is (20) days beyond recall scope. Nhtsa recall 98v183000, ignition key shift interlock; with no key in the ignition, a child was able to move the gear shift which allowed vehicle to move. The vehicle rolled into someone elses driveway hitting a tree. Manufacture not claiming any responsiblity eventhough vehicle is exhibiting same failure. Please describe details.
Recall 98v183000; self adjusting shift cable remedy malfunctioned, causing the shift interlock to move while the key was out of ignition. Chrysler admitted there was no solution for the problem. Dealer is galloway gulf coast Dodge, 15565 south tamiami trail, ft meyers, FL 33908 941-415-2147. This vehicle fell under the lemon law for this problem. Please provide further information.
