2 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2008 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 06/06/2011

Just imagine driving down the street at approximately 25-30mph and your hood flies up against the windshield. Fortunately for me the person behind be was alert and did not plow into the rear of me. I phoned the insurance company immediately, and I was advised to take the car to a recommended collision center which repaired my car pretty quickly. . . . Too quickly I suppose because when I called the Chrysler, llc office they special investigator said in error that there was nothing that they could do because the evidence was destroyed. He essentially said that there was nothing more that Chrysler could do. They don't know why it happened but it seemed as if the latch was working perfectly now. Well I now have a new hood but the same old latch. My major concern is that if you don't know why it happened to begin with how do you know that it is fixed. Suppose that it is not the latches at all but something connected to the latches that made them both fail. No one is listening to me. I am now very fearful of driving my car which I mentioned to the Chrysler special investigator and his recommendation to me was "if you are that afraid you ought to just trade it in and get something else" he said that they have done all and everything that they intend to do and he hung up the phone with me still talking. I just want this to go on record as a pretty serious problem; but know one is listening!.

3 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2008 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 06/05/2011

I have a 2008 Chrysler Sebring convertable (clothe top) in 2009 the latch and stryker for the rear trunk had to be replaced. Trunk would not lock! this was covered under warranty. . . Now it is 2011 and once again the latch and stryker have broken! this is the 3rd one in 3 1/2 years!!! now I have no warranty and its been over 12 months so the parts have no warranty! I personally think the trunk is way too heavy with the convertable top(located inside upper deck) is causing the latch to break!.

7 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2008 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 08/13/2010

2008 Sebring convertible shifter is stuck in park; the car cannot be moved. Dealer said it is a common problem with the brake shift interlock breaking. The entire shifter unit must be replaced; cost $150-$200 since the Sebring is 3 months out of warranty. They said the part breaks on several current Chrysler models all the time; a web search confirms it. A bright pink plastic piece breaks where a spring attaches to it, that allows the interlock to disengage when the brake is depressed. What if this common problem happens when you are in a remote location with no cell phone service? what if you needed your car for a medical emergency?.

Plz note 1998 Chrysler Sebrings door levers will break on you both mine did as well as others I notice on the internet. First it was one door handle tried to lift it and the other one brakes. And to there is a distributor you will have that problem I notice with a 1998 Chrysler Sebring it will die on you. You will tow it and cost thousands to repair. As far as the doors im calling Chrysler if any recalls on both doors. . And most likely pay hundreds to get it fix by some1. 13 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2006 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 05/09/2006

I just bought a 2006 Sebring convertible touring edition, I had driven to work 23 freeway miles. I noticed there was a lot of wind noise with the top up. I checked to make sure it was latched properly. On the way home I had the same wind noise(it was a windy day) after 20 miles on the freeway at 65 mph in rush hour traffic, the top gave way & blew back. You can see where the latch scraped. I almost had an accident in rush hour traffic. I think their is a seal defect. The dealer claims I was at fault, and it was not latched properly. The car had been purchased 4/27/06.

14 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2002 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 01/18/2006

I am extremely dissatisfied with a particular quality of my 2002 Sebring. This is the second time I am bringing this to the attention of Chrysler and I am demanding further inquiry and resolution be offered on my request. I am very adamant about this request as it has put my children in a very dangerous situation and could cause harm or even death to others. The problem itself is rather simply to understand but can have very dangerous ramifications. The driver side door lock does not have a safety feature preventing the driver door to be locked while the keys are in the ignition or in the vehicle. On every other manufacturer vehicle I've owned there was a feature that prevented this from happening - whether the car was running or not. In this particular situation, my 1 1/2 son was in his car seat as my wife parked our Sebring in friends drive way. She accidentally depressed the car lock while closing the door. The car was locked, with the engine running and my child inside the car. It took over a 1/2 hour for me to drive to the location with the spare keys to unlock the car. This was extremely dangerous and nerve racking and could have been worse in extreme heat or winter conditions without proper ventilation. I would very surprised if Chrysler has not be notified of this complaint and will be extremely dissatisfied if I don't receive resolution to fix the problem or at the very least a compensation for the situation, frustration, time and money spent. Unfortunately to date, Chrysler has not done anything other than to guide me to this site. This series of events (if unresolved) will seriously sway my decision of Chrysler products in the future.
