Eight problems related to steering wheel have been reported for the 1996 Chrysler Town & Country. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The clock-spring in my Chrysler failed causing the air bag light to come on at times and also causing my cruise control to not work at times. My bill for repair of this failure was $191. 74. I was told that this was not covered under my service contract. However I now see that their has been a recall issued for this very problem. My question is, how do I get reimbursed the $191. 74? dt.
Contacted dealer and Chrysler - both indicated know problem however not covered by any warranty. No safety defect listed.

Clicking sound and rattle in steering column reported to dealer repeatedly to no avail. Problem was noticed when vehicle was within 6 months of purchase in 1988. Although I reported problem everytime I took vehicle into service, dealer was never able to correct [problem. It still exist till this date of Aug. 2001.
Consumer loses ability to steer and sometimes the steering wheel locks up.
Steering wheel shimmies severely, any speed, makes loud whooping like noise when making turns. Dealer replaced rack and pinion, problem still exists.
Upon making a turn, the mechanism freezes up, the steering does not respond when trying to make any type of turn.
Steering wheel intermittently locks up when making left turns, no warning, almost caused an accident, normal speed.
