Six problems related to tank assembly have been reported for the 1997 Chrysler Town & Country. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Whenever I fill up the gas tanks on my 97 Town & Country and 98 Dodge grand caravan, the fuel gauge intermittently goes to empty and you'll hear the "ding" sounds. This occurs intemittetly until the gauge is halfway empty. This been going on now for over 2 years and it's annoying.
Fuel tank is normally attached by two bolts, however since a bolt was missing one of the straps was loose and was dragging on the pavement, the bolt holding the second strap was loose and halfway out of the bolt opening.
Was told that plastic fuel tank warped and allows gasoline to leak from the connector between fuel tank and line leading to engine. This created a very dangerous situation by puddling gasoline under the van. Was told by the dealer that this defect was not uncommon. Dealer indicated that the entire gas tank must be replaced.
Defective fuel sending unit malfunctioned, causing incorrect reading in the fuel gauge which indicated the tank was full, but actually did not have any fuel. This could cause vehicle to stall. Vehicle has had a serious rear end collision. There was a recall for 1997 cherokee, but not for the town and country which hs the same problem. Please provide further information.
