Front Seat Recliner problems of the 1998 Chrysler Town & Country

Three problems related to front seat recliner have been reported for the 1998 Chrysler Town & Country. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Front Seat Recliner problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2005

1998 Chrysler town and country seat latch broke. . . . . The passenger in the left/center row seat was not fastened to the floor. Upon inspection found a piece of a coil spring on the floor near to the mounting bracket located in the floor. The other part of the spring was still attached to the seat fastener mechanism.

2 Front Seat Recliner problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2002

Accident at 60 mph. The consumer was rear ended and the seat back collapsed. The consumer suffered injuries.

3 Front Seat Recliner problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2000

While traveling at approximately 55 to 60 mp consumer's vehicle rolled approximately four times, and driver was ejected from vehicle while he was wearing restraint belt. Consumer was ejected from vehicle due to seatback snapping and falling backwards, allowing driver to slide out from restraint belt. Driver suffered a broken left wrist/right ankle/ left clavical, and right shoulder; as well as having torn ligaments in his right knee. In addition to biting a portion of his tongue off. The manufacturer inresponse to the consumer that indicated the seat backs were designed to yield progressevely and increasing load, and also the seats,meet the standards set by the government.
