15 problems related to other fuel system tank filling/charging have been reported for the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Vehicle stalls out within 30 seconds of filling the gas tank. I don't double click the nozzle. The part causing the problem is the "rollover valve". This is permanently attached to the gas tank. It is allowing raw gas to enter the charcoal canister, not just fumes. The tank must be replaced to correct the problem. I have contacted Chrysler. (reference number: 32952411 email case number: 3568281) they say there is no recall or extended warranty for that vehicle.
After filling with fuel,(not topping off),engine will stall in front of traffic. Replaced fuel tank on 10/28/11,doing same thing again!Chrysler has a TSB #14-001-16rev. A dated 02/25/2016,15k miles, unlimited milage extended warranty, but not this VIN#. This vehicle is unsafe,my tech line has 3 cases. Call 417-739-2324.
Stalling after refueling began on our vehicle about a month ago. Today, with my son in the van, it stalled on the highway 610 garrisionville, stafford va. . The danger was that I was on a turn and the steering wheel became impossible for me to turn it. This is a major safety issue, and my hope is that Chrysler makes good on a defective part. (I see they did that after a gov't investigation of a similar nature for other cars) it seems to stall after filling and have not yet had it happen again till I refuel the tank. .
After filling up gas tank, vehicle stalls and jerks. A little while later, it may shut down entirely or the vehicle may stall again while pressing the accelerator. Vehicle has shut down on major road and stalled badly on main highway.
Van has started stalling out after filling the tank. It usually stalls shortly after leaving that station while speeding up after a turn. So far it hasn't completely died but I have to rev the engine to keep it running. I have found several complains on-line that say the repair is to completely replace the fuel tank and canister the same as the repair for the 300, the magnum and the charger.
This is dangerous - car stalled while on highway and during a turn, locking out the steering system and putting my car into oncoming traffic. This happened after filling the car up with gas - as with other Chrysler models of this year, it looks like there is a problem with the valve in the gas tank. I experienced sputtering after gas fill ups two days prior, and this final fill up the engine completely died. I had my whole family in the car. Fortunately we avoided an accident, but if we had been in one and survived I would have sued. There is a whole forum online at this address of people who have experienced the same issue and have been put in dangerous situations. . Read more...
After filling up the gas tank with gas, I drive away from the gas station and the van stalls. This has happened on a 2 lane divided highway in which I was almost killed! can someone please look into this situation.
Van began running ragged after filling up at gas station. It then stalled on a 4-lane highway. Was almost rear-ended. Looked up symptoms on-line and saw numerous complaints of same van and that issue was related to the gas tank, fuel entering vapor canister.
After filling gas tank, vehicle stalled as I was turing back into traffic. The engine has threatened to stall several times after fill-ups over the past two years. This is the same issue as described in investigation ps13-016 for similar models from Chrysler. That investigation has led to a very narrowly drawn warrantee extension. On-line research indicates this is a common problem.
I purchased a 2005 Chrysler town and country. After a few months without incident, the vehicle would randomly stall (no power, engine off, stop in its tracks). After it happened three times, I realized this only occurs when filling the tank fully, after driving a minute or two. It is so dangerous! luckily, I had always pulled into a nearby store for another errand. If it had happened on the street, I would have been rear ended! the vehicle stops with no warning. All power shuts off and engine dies. It stops in its place and you are unable to coast and pull over. I can't believe there is no recall on this.
Numerous times, upon filling gas tank, vehicle stalls in first few miles of driving. Has almost caused numerous accidents. Apparently this is a common problem, the NHTSA really needs to push for a recall. I cannot fill up totally for rear of getting hit.
After filling up gas tank and re-starting the engine, the engine either stumbles or stalls 1-5 times beginning within about 60 seconds of starting engine and driving away from gas station. This has been happening repeatedly over the last year and has become more frequent in the past 6 months. At least twice, it has stalled while pulling into an intersection right after fill up. After about 5 minutes, the stumbling/stalling stops and doesn't recur until after the next fill up. It occurs during both low-speed driving (e. G. Waiting at a light) and at high-speed driving (e. G. Merging onto interstate highway immediately after filling up) online forums indicate this is a common problem with this make vehicle and say the only fix is replacement of the entire gas tank. E. After filling the gas tank and driving away from the gas station the engine quit. Put the vehicle in neutral and restarted the vehicle. This has happened a number of times since the first incident. Always after filling the gas tank, but not at every refill. Checking on line indicates that this is happening to a number of people and the solution is replacing the gas tank, appears that a valve is allowing fuel to enter a filter which is causing the problem. A more detailed explanation is available on the internet.
Beginning around mid-2011, the vehicle would stall out immediately after filling (but not over-filling) the gas tank. Fill the tank, pull out into traffic, engine stalls. Hope you don't get hit. The dealership eventually confirmed the problem was a faulty valve on the top of the gas tank that is supposed to pass fuel vapor through the evap canister to the engine to burn off the vapor that gets displaced as the tank is filled. The valve was faulty and was passing liquid fuel. The evap canister was saturated and passed liquid fuel to the engine when the engine was expecting vapor. It stalled out every time. This is a serious safety flaw that can easily cause an accident and personal injury. Chrysler should pay to fix this problem.
Problem started 01/2011 at approximately 100,000 miles. Vehicle stalls after filling gas tank. If you fill tank and pump shuts off the vehicle will stall after a couple minutes. Doesn't happen all the time but, about 85% of the time. It stalls anywhere from 1-3 times. It has stalled when I was in traffic driving and when I sit stationary and wait for it to happen before driving. Almost got rear ended on a couple of occasions. Had a repair on it at the dealer on 03/17/2011. They replaced the evap canister. Copy attached. It fixed the problem for about a year and a half and then it came back. I've seen lots of complaints on the internet for the same issue. I've read that the only fix is to replace the entire fuel tank. I can't afford that. For years now I've been sitting at the pump for 5 minutes after fueling or I don't fill the tank all the way up. The stalling is very dangerous because it can happen at any time when stationary, driving and turning. It is very dangerous when driving in traffic and going through intersections. I want to sell my car but, I'm afraid of getting sued if this defect causes an accident. I have not received any information from Chrysler for a recall. They really need to look into this common complaint.
