Six problems related to seat belt have been reported for the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Was rearended by an 18 wheeler doing 55 mph I was stopped waiting for oncoming traffic to pass so I could turn left. He never braked. The van was pushed 200feet before it began to roll into trees. None of the airbags were deployed nor did the seatbelts lock. All 3 people were injured.
Description of accident ~ van slid on ice, hitting a mailbox. Both the upper and lower airbags exploded with a ¿pop-like sound, similar to gunfire, emitting terrible smoke and sharp debris, which smelled as though the car caught fire. Noticed several holes punctured as the airbags reached their maximum capacity, showing large burnt-like holes. Both my daughter and I were in the car. She was in passenger¿s seat, with her backpack in lap, which saved her from injury, thank goodness! unfortunately, my legs were pinned in vehicle, burnt and cut by the airbags & debris. Upon the ambulance¿s arrival, we noted that my daughter¿s safety belt needed to be cut, since it would not release for her automatically. She was cleared through the paramedics to head on to school. The paramedics stated that I may have blacked out for a bit, and felt that I most likely had whiplash. Their other concerns were the major pain in my left shoulder, and noted the need for me to be seen by a doctor right away. I was driven to the hospital. To date, deep bruising is still extremely apparent, along with being painful. Major scaring remains on both legs due to being burnt and cut. My shoulder and back of neck continue to throb, along with acknowledgment through my doctor¿s referral, within chiropractic care. He indicated through an x-ray, that I have nerve damage in the back of my neck, which causes pain and numbness throughout my right arm and hand. The van was declared ¿totaled. Please note: pictures of both damage to my vehicle, along with bodily injuries are available. I would be happy to discuss any further details with you. Thank you so very much for reviewing my information. Should you need any additional information, kindly advise.
The bolt attaching the right hand 2nd row passenger seat belt to the floor came lose and detached the seat belt from its anchor point to the floor. The fact that the bolt fell out means that the seat belt can not function to prevent personal injury or death in the event a crash were to occur.
The seatbelts of my 2006 Chrysler town and country do not lock. The dealer told me when I purchased that they would if I was in an accident in came to a quick stop. Today me and my three children were in an accident and they did not lock. My oldest is no longer in a car seat or booster and was wearing her seat belt which did not keep her in place the same with my middle girl who is in a high back booster seat wearing a regular seat belt luckily my youngest was in a regular car seat with a harness. We were very lucky that nobody got seriously hurt but it really does scare me that theses seat belts are not doing there job!.
Seatbelts do not lock. You can pull on them and pull on them and they keep retracting.
Seat belts "lock up" on my 2006 Chrysler minivan. This problem happens occasionally - possibly 4-5 times in the past 12 months. The seat belts will neither retract nor advance but are instead locked in place. The belt ultimately seems to "correct itself" after a few hours of sitting. The problem is exclusively to the seat belts in the middle row captain chairs. Yet this is where my children sit. In the past, we have needed to move their car seats to the rear to belt them in. I asked the dealership when it first happened in 2008 if this was covered under warranty, the dealership indicated it was not and we would have to pay to get it fixed. The last occurrence was December 2009.
