While driving the whole car stopped working, everything just died. Power steering, gas, power brakes, everything. I was able to, thankfully, get to the side of the highway, and put the car into park. I gave the car a few minutes, then it started back up again. This is not the first time this has happened, just the first time on a highway. I've taken my van to a dealership before and they can't "reproduce" the problem so they don't fix anything. Meanwhile, my life and the life of my family are in danger because I don't know if my van is going to shut down while I'm driving. There was no warning it was going to happen, the steering just goes out and you have no power.
Vehicle completely shuts off while driving at highway speed. Vehicle has turned off (lights, steering, braking, electrical) at 45mph while merging onto a highway, vehicle almost hit median before vehicle was put into neutral and restarted. Vehicle also shutoff at 65 mph while driving on highway.
3 times now our van will all the sudden not have any throttle then the power steering will not work. I have to stop where I am and turn off the van then turn it back on. There r no warning lights or indicators. It will just not excell and have no power stearing. All 3 times I took my foot off the gas to slow down and when I went to accelerate again it wouldn't to anything. All 3 times I was in the city. Once in sturgeon bay,WI. The others in menasha,WI. Sb,WI I was in the process of turning and couldn't turn. The other one I was approaching a stop light in a snow storm and slowing down. The 3rd time I was approaching a round about. There was about 2 mths between the sb,WI incident and the 2 in menasha.
Van randomly turn off while driving without any warning, lost all power steering control and power assisted brake control. This has happens randomly over the past 3 years. Very dangerous and could lead to death if it resulted in a crash. Has always happens when the vehicle has been in motion, has happened at highway speeds, at low speeds, and when turning.
Cars ignition is shutting off randomly and not starting intermittently also.
Driving down the road and the car shuts off, check engine light comes on, esp light comes on. My car shuts down on both street and highway and in motion.
Engine stalling at low speeds and mid range speed. Place the car in neutral coast and it restarts. No indicator lights on the dash light up. Does not happen daily. It happens on subdivision streets and city streets. This has been happening since Nov. 2018.
When filling up at any gas station, fuel spits out of the filler neck and runs down the side of the vehicle and onto the ground.
My vehicle powers off for no reason while driving. It's been doing this for over a year and I've spend hundreds of dollars trying to figure out what's wrong. Now it's dead every morning when we try to start it. Service center says it is the tipm and will cost 1200. 00 to replace.
Vehicle stalls while driving constantly. It seems to be worse at slower speeds, but does happen at higher speeds. When the stall occurs, you often see the abs light come on. The car loses power steering. You have to pull over and restart or sometimes can put it into neutral and restart while driving. There are other times car seems to surge forward for no reason. It's often difficult to start.
My Chrysler 2010 town and country shutdown completely while driving on the interstate and roads. I took it to southern Chrysler Jeep. They replaced the erg valve for approximately $600. A week later it shutdown again. Took it back to them and they could not find a problem they gave it back said drive until service light comes on. I did that. They said the codes that were read did not cause the issue. They kept the van and got get to shutdown on them. Now they said that it "might" be the tipm box for $1200. Replace the box on a might. The service rep recommended that I did not get it fix because they are unsure that this is the cause of the problem. He recommended that I trade it in and buy a car. I contacted Chrysler corporate office. Assigned a case manager that is unavailable until evening time when I work. They will not assign another case manager. I don't know what's going on with my van. So now it's pay$1200 for another repair that may not fix the problem or come get the van. I'm truly scared of what could happen if I continue to drive this hazardous car on the highways and roads without knowing exactly what's wrong. Replaced the tipm box and shutdown twice.
Vehicle will turn off while driving with no warning. Have to play with ignition switch to get vehicle to start back up. Dealer is saying there are presently. I feel this is a safety issue as vehicle is mainly dying on turns.
February 2017: latest problem - stalling unexpectedly while driving at low speed on parkway and local roads with no warning; check engine light came on - dealer replaced two O2 sensors at a cost of over $500, which did not fix problem; took for test drive and stalling continued-received call that tipm needed to be replaced at a cost of over $1,100 (service tech said it was a manufacturer defect but was not being covered by Chrysler) - if it is a defect they are aware of, shouldn't it be covered?.
While driving along, the vehicle shuts off. The key is in the still ignition, and I am able to put the vehicle in the neutral position and restart the vehicle. Between my wife and this event has occurred at least eight times since the vehicle was purchased. In each case the vehicle was in motion, and the shutoff has occurred on city streets as well as the highway. My 1st occurrence happened while I was turning right. I believe that the wireless ignition node(win) module is the cause of the shutoffs but it may be caused by a problem with the fuel system. Regardless of the cause, the engine shutting down while moving is a safety issue and dangerous. The appropriate recalls are: l02, l25 and r03.
While in motion, the vehicle suddenly loses power. The engine, power steering, brakes and ac unit cut out. The radio and hazard lights continue to function, as if the vehicle has entered accessory mode. This happens both at slow speeds (20-25 mph) and in highway driving (60+ mph) and any speed in between. Sometimes the event is preceded by a bump or jar in the pavement, and other times it has no apparent cause. Turning the key to the off position and restarting the car resolves the issue, however this is difficult when in the middle of traffic. In addition, on occasion, the key fob seems to have difficulty starting the ignition. It might take 3 or 4 tries before the engine turns over, despite no battery or electrical loss. These things often coincide so that you are frantically trying to restart the car in the middle of a highway. This problem occurs infrequently, the worst case of this happening is dated below, but that is not the only time.
Tipm module failure. Known issue with this and other Chrysler vehicles. This is the singular part which controls the entire vehicle. When I called Chrysler to see what they would do to help, they got the part expedited for delivery, but offered nothing else to assist: no help with the rental car, no price reduction on the part or the labor to repair vehicle for a known repair issue. This was my first and my last Chrysler product purchase, and I will make sure I tell as many people as I can about how much Chrysler cares about customer service, customer satisfaction and standing behind their known defective product!!.
While operating vehicle it simply shuts off. No warning lights etc come on. The vehicle was manufactured on June 8, 2010 in canada. Dealer says "no recalls" on vehicle yet NHTSA recall extends to vehicles produced to 6/17/10. Dealer could not duplicate issue and offers no assistance. Issue has only occurred shortly after starting car and is sporadic.
Driving down the road at approximately 20 mph attempting to make a left turn, car stalled, losing power steering and brakes. Would not re-start after incident. Key also does not return to "on" position after attempting to start vehicle, stays in start position.
Driving vehicle in residential neighborhood at 35 mph, dash displayed the loss of traction warning light. I noticed, too, that the accelerator pedal wasn't working and apparently the entire engine completely shut off. All electrical components still worked including radio, navigation system, etc. I completely lost the ability to steer the vehicle as well. Had to put on my hazards. Stop. Put the vehicle in park. Turn the vehicle off. Turn it back on and it would run again.
We were driving at about 20-25 mph, and the car stalled in the street and the electronic stability control light came on. We put the vehicle in park, and re-started the van. The van worked fine for about three days and did it again. It has done this a total of 5 times in the last month.
Appears related to NHTSA action number: dp14004 problem: sudden unintended and uncontrollable acceleration sudden unintended acceleration of our 2010 Chrysler town and country touring was experienced on 2 occasions (8/2/14 and 12/5/14) nearly resulting in a serious accident on each occurrence. Both incidents occurred under similar circumstances. While traveling on a freeway @ approximately 65 mph bearing left (either to change lanes or on a curve ) and accelerating, the accelerator pedal drops to the floor with uncontrolled full throttle acceleration. Braking did not stop the acceleration and emergency evasive maneuvers were required to avoid serious accidents on both occasions. Shifting in and out of neutral several times was performed and eventually the accelerator returned to normal operation. I am unsure what caused the unintended acceleration to stop. Key information identical during both incidents: 1. Engine oil was changed within days of each incident. Oil change reminder counter was reset using manufacturer reset procedure. 2. Left turn signal was engaged. 3. Travelling at approximately 65 mph when beginning acceleration (transmission downshifted). 4. Throttle position was approximately 30-40% throttle to accelerate to pass or get up to speed after a curved freeway entrance ramp. 5. Vehicle had been driven for approximately 25 minutes prior to sudden acceleration on each occurrence (however in two completely separate locations). 6. This occurred on 2 occasions with 2 different drivers. 7. Both incidents occurred while on a freeway. 8. Duration of incidents: approximately 10-20 seconds. This appears to be a software bug (I am an it professional and electrical engineer by degree). This needs to be fixed immediately for the safety of my family and the general public.
I want to report a problem with Chrysler town and country touring 4d passenger extended van with 3. 8l engine. Purchased the car from carmax in may 2014 and took it on it's first trip over the 4th of July weekend. I checked the oil before I left and it was full and golden in color as it should be. The trip was from vienna, virginia to camilla, georgia and lasted 10 days covering 1800 miles. I started receiving oil maintance warnings on July 11 which is unusal and checked the oil. To my astonishment the engine was almost dry and what little oil I could see was black in color. It took 3 1/2 quarts of oil to bring the van back up to full capacity!! in doing research about this abnormal instance it appears from the number of complaints already filed that Chrysler and yourself have known about this problem of excessive oil usage that leads to engine malfunction for a while. It appears the solutions are value stem seal replacment, pcv value replacement and finally a full engine ring job as last resort. I was a previous owner of a 1993 chrylser Town & Country with 220,000 miles on it and it would burn 1/2 quart in 3000 miles at the most. There needs to be an investigation into the faulty 3. 8l Chrysler engine and a recall should be issued immediately to prevent safety issues from needless blown engines with family members aboard. There is no indication of engine leaks or with the exhaust usage. This engine just consumes ridiculous amounts of oil more than the 1 quart per 750 miles Chrysler claims is nomal which in this day and age is ridiculous also.
Our 2010 town and country minivan has been stalling since q1 of 2014. We have taken it to normanden in san jose, CA numerous times to have them diagnose the problem. We have left it with them on each occasion to drive it with their diagnostic computer and they have never been able to find a code telling them what to fix. On Dec. 27 we took it back in to normanden after it stalled 19 times in the previous 7 days. We left the car with them while we were on vacation for 12 days, and asked them to have their lead mechanic drive it home every day with the computer on it to see if they could get it to fail. It did fail, but we were told that he did not have the computer on it at the time. We also were told that it did not fail for him since then with the computer on it. I just talked to our service writer dan, and he said again, without a code they are not able to fix the problem. They cannot try swapping parts like the main computer, because they will not get reimbursed by Chrysler, if does not fail when they send it back. My wife drives this car every day, as I do not drive. She takes me to work and baby sits our 2 beautiful grand children who live 75 miles north of us. Every time it stalls, the power steering no longer works and the power assisted breaks do not stop the car very well without a lot of pressure on the brake pedal. She has to drive in the right lane in case it stalls so she can try to coast to a safe spot to restart the car. She has almost been hit from behind which is a very scary and dangerous situation. She and I are always scared that we will be hit by someone, putting us and our grandkids in danger. I hope you can help us get these problems fixed, or a new car, before one of us is injured or killed. We will be more than happy to give you more details if you will call either my wife or me.
Brakes shutter when applied. On 3 set of brakes. Engine quits at idle. Must put in park or neutral and restart. Engine cuts out while driving at various speeds then resumes. Took van to dealer with od code 1128 they could not find ant problem. Problem continued. I changed : spark plugs and wires O2 sensors map sensor problem getting more frequent.
