This minivan is equipped with a factory installed, electric 3rd row seat. It is a split (2/3 -1/3) configuration. The switches to control these seats are on the left rear panel just inside the door jamb. The options are: stow, normal or rear facing. You can control one or both seats for each option by use of the rocker switch posiition. Both seats were in the normal (upright) position and luggage was stored behind the seat. A child seat was sitting on the left side of the rear seat. When rounding a turn, a piece of luggage fell into the switch panel and the seat started to stow, it was compressing the child seat. I was shocked that it didn't stop or reverse itself as a friction clutch would. I. E like one of the 3 electric doors on this vehicle would. Instead the motors kept turning and skipping on their gears (machine gun sound). Trying to shut off the switches had no effect. This is a crushing hazzard.
The contact temporarily rented a 2011 Chrysler Town & Country. The contact stated that the head rests of the second row captains chairs failed. While a four-year-old child was secured in a child restraint in the second row captain chair. The child was able to engage the head rest lever and the head rest detached from its housing as the seat restrained forward with the child still in the seat. The child was turned over, face down while still in the child restraint. A passenger attempted to move the seat back in the upward position and injured his hand. The manufacturer was contacted but offered no assistance. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileage was 174. Updated 03/22/lj.
