general problems of the 2011 Chrysler Town & Country - part 1

It stalls to turn on even when I changed everything from, fuel pump, fuel pump relay, heater pumps, alternator, new battery. And it still won’t turn on it’s been happening for 4 months now. And I changed things that were recommended. I do my oil change every time I need as well.

The fuel pump is sporadically not getting power. This has left me stranded multiple times. I’m worried that this could happen while driving on the interstate and causing an accident.

During random times; starting cold, starting warm, coming to a stop, accelarating, on city surface streets or on the freeway, after long drives or just going down the street; the minivan would stall and not restart. Fortunately able to coast to side of road on occassion. Non start condition would last between 15 minutes to days. This last event occured while turning in a busy intersection. Blocked cars and buses in all four directions on a Friday afternoon rush hour, putting ourselves and others at serious risk. There were no warning lights or anything other than a brief shudder before stalling. Roadside service called 911 first to get us out of the way. Towed to local mechanic who duplicated event and found that two separate recalls for faulty fuel pump relay was issued for other models but not our minivan. This family vehicle is now a liability if the fuel pump relay replacement is not made available to us.

The van has a problem accelerating and also seems to stall while driving on the expressway before jumping quickly into acceleration there was a bad storm in buffalo that I believe contributed to the problems of the Chrysler van.

Upon leaving work my battery (only installed for 3 months) was completely dead. After a CO-worker jumped my van off I went straight to advanced and had them check the battery. It showed something was still on/running however the keys were in my hand and absolutely nothing was on or plugged in. He went ahead and replaced my battery. The next day I went out on errands and it started fine. That evening I was taking my family out to dinner and it would not start. It would crank but not start. I put it in neutral and back into park and it did manage to start. The following morning I went out and it would only crank. It would not start and the lightening bolt symbol and check engine light came on. First we changed the throttle body sensor (as indicated by the light). It still wouldn't start. After I had it towed to a garage they said the tipm was faulty and had caused the fuel pump to burn out. I have seen/read numerous other people saying this has happened to their vehicle as well. The exact same issues. This issue has cost me over $1,500 and I still haven't had the tipm fixed yet. With as many complaints on the same issue there should be a recall on this since it is obviously a manufacturing issue.

The vehicle will crank but not start. This happened intermittently at first but is now a consistent issue. Through research I discovered that this is a common tipm issue on this year Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge vehicles. A recall was placed for Jeep and Dodge however there has been no recall on Chrysler models with the same issue. This issue can cause the vehicle to not start as well as stall while driving which could potentially cause an accident. This recall needs to be in effect for Chrysler model vehicles with the sand issue as the Jeep and Dodge models.

The tipm is failing, not allowing the van to start when it gets so cold out. We were quoted $2000 to get it repaired. We found an article stating this is a common issue and was being repaired by Chrysler.

2011 Chrysler town and country, starts then shuts off after two seconds. Check engine light came on last night. Remote start disabled. Vehicle will not start via push button, must use key fob in place of pushbutton. Again remote start will not work. Vehicle starts and shuts off right away. From research done, cause being tipm or fuel relay.

Fuel pump relay- the tpim.

Tipm is defective causing the car hard starting and stall. The fuel pump relay stays on draining the new battery . The car starts then shuts down after 2 seconds. The sliding doors open and close, horn stops, car alarm stops intermittently. I had to temporarily bypass the fuel pump relay. The cost of the tipm replacement is $1500.

Tl the contact owns a 2011 Chrysler Town & Country. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle. It would not start the contact charged the battery to full and the vehilce would not turn over and start. The contact stated this occured multiple times in the last few weeks previously. No warning light illuminated prior to failure with vehicle. The contact called naples Dodge Chrysler Jeep ram (6381 airport-pulling rd, naples, FL 34109 phone: (239) 296-2404) and notified them about the failure however the vehicle has not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacture was made aware of failure. The failure mileage was 84,000. Vw.

Car stalls and shuts off, car cranks but will not start this has happened numerous times in the past 24 hours, while driving it will unexpected shut off, this is a problem related to the tipm which has been recalled in other 2011 model vehicles such as the Jeep grand cherokee and Dodge durango. I have read forums where other 2011 town and countrys also had this same issue.

This must be a recall concern. Chrysler really needs to step up and take care of this tipm issue. The most common problem was a defective tipm that prevented the engine from starting. This van fails while the car was being driven. Today 1-4-21, the van is again at the dealership for repairs for the same issue again and again I can't believe it. The Town & Country would be running smoothly one day and fail to start the next day. Why recall concerning them was never issued????.

Vehicle intermittently won't start and is stalling out / dying when going down the highway.

The vehicles battery died due to a faulty tipm. After a jump start it will run but once the vehicle is off and sitting for less than an hour the vehlice will turn over, die, then will crank and not turn over for a while. This is the first time this is happening with this vehicle it has a little let than 70,000 miles.

Wife was driving. Then engine went to full throttle, would not slow down. She rode the brakes all the way home, switched from neutral to drive, van would jump into gear when she would shift back to drive, felt like brakes were not working well enough (probably glazed). Almost wrecked, could hardly stop. Very dangerous situation.

Fuel relay on tipm is faulty resulting in not starting and stalling while driving. It is very dangerous that this problem has not been addressed by a recall.

Apparently Chrysler has a problem with their tipm from years 2011 to 2013. I just had to do a fuel relay bypass on my 2011 town and country because they did not tissue a recall for all males and models with this problem. They should not be allowed to refuse because all models most likely used the same tipm.

Persistent electrical motor sound emanated from rear of car after parking and powering off (continued after removal of keys). Next day battery was dead, jump started engine with difficulty. Drove for several hours, but again would not start after it was shut off. Mechanic diagnosed faulty totally integrated power module, replaced at a cost of nearly $1,500. After replacement of tipm, new issue of airbag indicator light is on and several 12-volt power ports inside the car no longer work, both new conditions since tipm replacement.

Vehicle won't start. Engine turns over but won't run. Sitting in my driveway.

Our 2011 Town & Country started having starting/stalling issues about 3 months ago - mind you there is only about 81k miles on the vehicle. The dealer first replaced the power module in September, then the issue returned only to be causing more electrical issues. The car was taken back to the dealer and it was explained then that they had to replace the power module due to a faulty relay. This is the exact same issue that other Chrysler/Dodge vehicles of the same year are being recalled for. The stalling was dangerous as it happened while driving. This has been a very costly problem without a recall being issued - although vehicles using the same engine and components are being recalled. Please help escalate this.

My tipm is failing slowly. My starter is pulling way to many amps when starting. I've changed it twice. My fuel relay has failed. A lot of the times when I start my car I have an icon for my abs sensor come on and the only way to get it off is to pull over and restart my car. When the light is on on my dash. My car won't drive over 60mph and my rpms will run high and when you let off the gas while it's doing this it will take you almost to a stop within seconds. My check engine light never goes off. And no matter how many times it gets tested and reset it comes back within hours. So my auto start never works. Sometimes when I start my car I can't get my seatbelt alarm to stop singing so I have to pull over and restart. It all leads back to this tipm (electronics board below the fuse box). I've had it priced at 1300$ to fix it. But turns out it's the most common issue with this year of this van. Please help!.

First issue is the back up camera and blind spot sensors quit working. Very costly price to have fixed so chose not to fix. Now it doesn't want to start. Did some research and it looks like Chrysler had some recalls for the tipm on different makes from 2011, but not on this particular vehicle. How do they know for sure that they all shouldn't have been recalled. Also side passenger door buzzes when you lock or unlock the vehicle. Will never buy another Chrysler again. Very disappointed in all the issues we have had with this vehicle.

Vehicle started sometimes but not other times leaving me stranded alone . . . . Had to have the tipm replaced for over $1500. . . . . . Researched on line to find out that this has been a problem for Chrysler owners for years! but it seems Chrysler had not recalled the vehicles.

I was driving the vehicle and all the lights on the dash came on and then went black, the van shut off while driving and I was almost hit by a big truck. The van will not start nor hold charge. Thae battery and altnator test good but it wont start. I have had it towed twice in less than a month and honestly cant afford to keep getting stranded. I purchased the vehicle in August of 2016 and this is our family vehicle, at this point I dont have transportation for my job and wouldn't feel safe driving it if it did run. So now im paying for a vehicle that doesn't run and frankly is a saftey hazzard. My husband is disabled and this was our transportation to and from his appointments as well. I have seen and read that thousands are having the same issue with Chrysler and still no recall. Someone please help.

Tipm failure, dealership wants to charge me over $1000. 00 to repair. Van started acting up in the electrical department . Windows rolling down, key fob not working, cruise control going out, wipers acting up, heated seats not working, ac and heat weakening, intermittent issue to start the van, then stopped running all together, now won't even turn over. Then I took it to dealership after having battery and alternator tested (all good) and had to bring it home cause they wouldn't take a payment plan. I looked on youtube for possible issues and fixes and checked my wiring to my tipm and found one harness tampered with. Tape cut and wires cut as well didn't look lik that when I took it in. I'm upset because I can't afford to replace something this expensive and common known issue. Why is there no recall on this model but other models running this same tipm? this is a cheap way for Chrysler to get more money out of us. Make this a recall, I can only imagine what could've happened if it would've stalled with my 3 kids in the car on a highway!!! get us a recall on this issue!!!!!.

My Chrysler town and country began having what I thought was a minor turn signal issue. After replacing the bulb and that not correct the issue my mechanic replaced the fuses and that did not solve the issue. I was then told that my tipm box/system was bad. That an $800. 00 part to fix a signal turn signal. Well it had to be replaced in order to pass inspection in order to continue driving the vehicle. So I replaced it. Fast forward 1 year later and my vehicle begins to intermittently spudder when coming to a complete stop. I then began to completly shut off at times after highway driving over a distance of 5 or more miles when I exit and stop or slow down after exiting the highway. When I took it to the shop, they test drove the vehicle and it stalled on the highway during their test drive diagnostic. They had to get assistance to get the vehicle out of the road. They then told me that only the dealership can correct the tipm system.

My complaint is the tipm module just like many Dodge and Chrysler. And Chrysler thinks they can pick and choose who they reward an recall too. This is a faulty part on all Chryslers for several years and they know it! but when I get done with this class action law suit I am about to start I hope all paying Chrysler and Dodge customer get money they deserve!.

Car takes 20 minutes of on and off starting till it runs. Turns off while driveing for no apparent reason.

Bought the van in 2011 and since then, the vehicle began to having problems starting in 2014. I pressed the start button, but the engine would not turn over. After several hundred tries, it would start. This happened 20 times since then and the dealer does not know why. Today, 4 oct 16, the vehicle will not start at all. I'm a deployed service member and my wife and three children use this van. The faulty ignition system will leave my family stranded. I researched this and there is a recall for other models with the same tipm system, however, there is not one for the town and country. There are hundreds of owners experiencing the same problem. Please have Chrysler admit there is a faulty tipm and that this needs to be recalled.

Electrical system malfunction. The back up sensors do not work, the safety backup video does not work, it says my tires have 0 pressure, it will not start after being shut off. Tipm problem? way too many people have complaints about the vehicles electric system related to the fuel system and engine not starting. This is clearly enough evidence to warrant a tipm recall. If you know what the problem is exactly, could you let me know because we are trying to find a solution.

Experiencing intermittent electrical problems. The van will crank fine one time and not just a few minutes later. It acts like the battery is dead but it's a brand new battery replaced by the dealer. It has been doing this off and on. The symptoms are a perfect fit for the tipm issues that other Chrysler vehicles have experienced and have been recalled for. It has plenty of voltage and amperage to crank, it just won't. Also when it does crank it will stall out, although, not every time. Sometimes it will crank normally and others you need to press the accelerator pedal. This also appears to fit the tipm symptoms exactly. The van has worked perfectly until this issue. This is a design defect that Chrysler should pay to correct in all affected vehicles. The most recent occurrence was the evening of 6/26/16. I drove the vehicle approximately 4 hours earlier and it cranked and operated normally, however, this time it would not crank. The interior lights and a/c fan all appear to operate normally, however, when I tried to crank the van all of the lights flickered but the van does not crank. I do not receive a low batter warning either, because the batter is brand new, replaced by the dealer at the beginning of June 2016. I attempted several more times but the van never did crank. That is why I am here. I am fed up with having to drive a van with an obvious design flaw. I am seeking resolution in the form of the the dealer correcting the defect at the their own cost.

Engine turns over but fails to start. Diagnosed as tipm failure.

Tipm system faulty! fuel relay switch is bad and should be included in the recent recall. Vehicle won't start and stalls intermittently. Had to take to dealership and the diagnostic confirmed. See photo. Called Chrysler and they refused to replace the part which costs with labor 1100. 00. This is the same issue that they just recalled and they need to provide us with some assistance, I drive my family in this vehicle!!.

July - drove the van down to myrtle beach and the check engine light came on and we lost all power to vehicle. Had it towed to a repair shop and they said we needed a new alternator and battery. Got it fixed to the tune of almost $1,000. Recently (late oct-current) my wife went out to start it last week and it wouldn't start. Just cranked and cranked, then after several tries, it started up like nothing was wrong. Took it to our mechanic and they said it was something electronic told us they couldn't replicate the problem, which I basically told them that they were crazy because it has done it every morning for the last week. Finally narrowed it down to the tipm, which by the way is on back order for god knows how long, and not only do we have to pay for it, . So. . . Now what? I have no vehicle and have no idea how long it will be. Chrysler is doing nothing to help even though there are hundreds of complaints about this issue- the have recalled the durangos and cherokees for the same problem but failed to do anything with the grand caravans and town and country. . . We bought a $25,000 vehicle so we didn't have issues like this. . . I've always been a Chrysler person myself but am having second thoughts about our next vehicle.
