I recently purchased a used 2012 (09/11 production date) Chrysler town 7 country touring, van, it had 063,200. 0 miles when received. Purchased from a honest and reputable local used car dealer. (it was a new car trade in from a dealer 45 miles away) after driving the van for aprox. 300 miles the air bag light in the dash came on and would not reset or go out. The dealer tried to clear the code but could not. They determined that it was something related to the drivers seat. At their recommendation I took the van to the local Chrysler/Jeep/ram dealer to be checked. The dealer charged $95. 00 to check it and said that there is a short in the drivers head rest which is non-repairable and will cost $725. 00 (plus the $95. 00 charge) to replace the head rest. This safety system failure is not covered by the factory after the 36/36 is expired. I called the Chrysler factory information line and was again told that this safety system failure is not covered by Chrysler. In researching this issue I have seen that Chrysler has had at least 840,000 recalls involving head rests. How can I get Chrysler to repair this serious problem. The dealer and Chrysler said that the srs/air bags will not work if the light is on. This means I have no air bag function should I be involved in an accident. I am very concerned and feel that a serious safety system failure like this should be a factory covered repair for at least 150,000 miles. I have been denied the repair by Chrysler, regardless of the potential for serious injury or death if involved in an accident when the srs system will not work. I am a disabled veteran and need this van for transportation.

2012 Chrysler Town & Country (rental). Consumer writes in regards to rental vehicle sliding door & passenger seats malfunction. The consumer stated the sliding doors just behind the front doors were electronically operated. There were 2 occasions where the consumer's husband and a teen-aged driver inadvertently had their hand on the car frame, and when the button was pushed to close the door, it did not stop, when it hit their hands. It kept moving and mashed their hands between the moving door and door frame. The injuries were not severe. However, a safety switch is needed to stop the door. A much bigger problem, however, was found in the second row of the seat, just behind the front seat. The consumer stated she and her husband were sitting in the seats, and decided to take a nap. When she went to re-position the seat, to its upright position, she turned sideways to pull the lever on the side, but when she pulled it, the entire back rest assembly slammed her forward with considerable impact. At the same time, the head rest atop the back rest slammed forward with much more impact and it hit her in the back of the head.

The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler town and country. The contact was driving 25 mph with a passenger seated in the second row passenger seat. That passenger activated the lever which would fold down the second row seating and became stuck between the seats as they were folding. The contact stopped the vehicle and removed the passenger that was stuck between the seats. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they were unable to diagnose a failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 500. Updated 04/11/lj.
