This investigation was opened on Sep. 24, 2010. It was closed on May. 10, 2011. Odi has received 339 complaints alleging an unexpected loss of power steering assist while driving the vehicle. When the power steering assist stops working, drivers experienced difficulty in steering and/or controlling the vehicle.

2 Steering hydraulic power assist hose, piping, and connections defect investigations of Mini Cooper vehicles
This investigation was opened on Aug. 14, 2007. It was closed on Aug. 13, 2008. The office of defects investigation (odi) analyzed consumer complaints to BMW of north America, LLC (BMW)and to odi that alleged failures of the electrohydraulic power steering (ehps) used in model year 2002 through 2003 Mini cooper vehicles.

3 Steering electric power assist system defect investigations of Mini Cooper vehicles
This investigation was opened on Apr. 19, 2007. It was closed on Aug. 15, 2007. in response to an information request (ir) letter sent by the office of defects investigation (odi), BMW stated that the cause of the alleged defect is an insufficient seal of the ground cable of the power steering pump at its attachment to the chassis.

4 Side window air bags defect investigations of Mini Cooper vehicles
This investigation was opened on Sep. 27, 2005. It was closed on Mar. 1, 2006. In March 2006, BMW reissued a service bulletin first issued in September 2003, to Mini dealers regarding the repair procedure for improper wire crimps in approximately 31,500 model year 2002 and 2003 Mini cooper vehicles produced up to January 2003.
