This lack of proper lubrication can cause the switch to stick, resulting in the vehicle stop lamps staying illuminated or failing to extinguish promptly. If the stop lamps fail to perform as designed, a crash could result without warning.

On certain vehicles equipped with bendix sl4 stop light switches, improper lubrication was applied to the piston mechanism in the switch.
