gillig llc (gillig) is recalling certain 2001-2018 gillig low floor transit buses. the turn signals may flash slowly, reducing their visibility to other drivers. as such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."
gillig will notify owners, and dealers will update the software that controls the turn flash rate, free of charge. the recall is expected to begin in july 2018. owners may contact gillig customer service at 1-510-264-5073 or 1-800-735-1500.
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
