The involved vehicles were built with aft-of-axle fuel tanks which were not authorized by light truck engineering. As a result, these vehicles fail to conform to federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 301, "fuel system integrity", due to possible fuel tank leakage when impacted from the rear.

icon2 How to Fix:

Dealer will inspect and replace aft-of-axle fuel tank with the correct tank, without charge to owner.

Vehicle description: light trucks equipped with rear step bumpers. System: fuel; aft-of-axle fuel tank. Consequences of defect: in the event of a rear end collision, fuel leakagecould occur and if an ignition source is present, a vehicle fire and passengerinjury could result.
