These vehicles contain defective baseplate welds and an insufficient number of baseplate bolts. This defect may allow the restraining barrier to separate when subjected to impact forces. This fails to comply with federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 222, "school bus passenger seating and crash protection".

The base plate welds will be inspected and rewelded, if necessary, and an additional bolt will be installed in each base plae.

Vehicle description: school buses. System: structure; baseplate welds. Consequences of defect: in the event of an accident, failure of the restrainingbarrier would increase the chances of passenger injuries.
