A retrofit procedure has been established to correct the all-foam seat back and barrier pads by replacing them with reinforced pads. This will be done without charge.

Vehicle description: school buses. System: interior; seat back pad. Consequences of defect: the all foam seat back utilized in the involvedvehicles may experience premature in-service deterioration and cracking of thefoam at the top front surface of the seat back and barrier pad. As a result,these vehicles do not conform to federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 222,"school bus passenger seating and crash protection". Consequences of defect: in the event of an accident, severe cracking will beevidenced by a visible line or distortion under the seat covering. This couldlessen the energy absorbing effect of the foam, thus increasing the chances ofinjury.
