The steering wheel may be locked when the ignition key is in the off position and the gear shift lever is not in park. This condition constitutes a non compliance with federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 114, theft protection.

Key release control cable will be inspected and modified if necessary.

Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. System: steering; ignition lock. Consequences of defect: the design is intended to prevent the key from beingremoved when it is in any position except lock. The defect may cause thesteering wheel to lock while the vehicle is still in motion, possibly resultingin loss of control and an accident.
