The nut can eventually come off allowing the steering wheel to separate from the steering shaft, loss of vehicle control, and increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Dealers will retighten the steering set nut.

Owner notification is expected to begin during August 1998. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.
