Vehicle description: passenger vehicles equipped with a console armrest fail to comply with requirements of fmvss no. 201, "occupant protection in interior impacts. " the armrests were produced with a latch that will not withstand the vertical force requirements of the standard.

Dealers will replace the console armrest latch.

Gm recall no. 99071. Owner notification began October 29, 1999. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Saturn at 1-800-833-6000, prompt #3.
