| Investigations Summary: | In a letter dated September 11, 2014, a consumer petitioned the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA) for an investigation into low-speed surging in model year (my) 2006 through 2010 Toyota corolla vehicles with etcs-I, in which the brakes fail to stop the vehicle in time to prevent a crash. The petitioner alleges experiencing multiple low-speed surge events while driving a my 2010 corolla, the latest of which resulted in a collision with a parked vehicle during an attempted parking maneuver on June 8, 2014. Copies of the petition and supporting documents will be placed in the public file. The petition states that a review of complaints to NHTSA from owners of my 2006 through 2010 Toyota corolla vehicles found 163 reports in which the driver experienced a surge at low speed or no speed. Odi's preliminary review of the complaints cited by the petitioner determined that some were not within the scope of the petition based on model year (10) or model (3), some were multiple submissions by the same complainant on the same vehicle (6), and some were from foreign countries (3). Thus, the complaints submitted by the petitioner relate to 141 vehicles that are within the scope of the petition request.
