| Investigations Summary: | The office of defects investigation (odi) received a petition dated November 20, 2020 requesting an investigation of an alleged defect in the backup light system in certain model year (my) 2013 Porsche 911 carrera vehicles. The petition itself can be reviewed at NHTSA. Gov under odi number 11376617. The petitioner reported that their my 2013 Porsche 911 carrera equipped with the zf- sourced seven speed manual transmission experienced a fault that prevented the backup lights from illuminating when shifting the vehicle gearbox into reverse. The petitioner described the fault as an actuator inside the manual transmission detaching from its mounting, leading to a failure to make contact with the backup light switch which is threaded into the transmission from the outside. Subsequent review with Porsche indicates that this condition may affect my 2012 and 2014 vehicles as well. This defect petition has been opened to evaluate the issue and determine whether to grant or deny the petition. |
