Note: this investigation has resulted in
a vehicle safety recall. On January 22, 1996 Volkswagen of America, inc. (vwoa) filed a defect information report to replace the ignition switch of certain 1994 through 1996 model yearvehicles. The recall involved 24,000 Audi 90, 100, a6, s4, and cabriolet model vehicles manufactured from January 1994 through December 1995. The ignition switches in some of these vehicles may have been improperly manufactured which could result in electrical accessories malfunctioning when the engine was started. To remedy this defect, Audi replaced the ignition switches of the affected vehicles. (NHTSA recall 96-017, Audi recall code kb)odi has received 3 consumer complaints from owners of 1996 and 1997 vehicles reporting malfunctioning electronic accessories as a result of an allegedly defective ignition switch. All of these vehicles are outside of the recall population. The purpose of the rq is to investigate the nature of the problem and the scope of the recall. |
