36 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2015

When fueling my vehicle I get back splash all the time. It started when my Avenger reach 50000 miles.

37 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2015

The intake manifold runner control is showing as "stuck open" causing the check engine light to be lit up and the car cannot be inspected. I have replaced this part 3 times in 3 years. The part is either defective from every source, the car is causing the issue, or the computer isn't functioning properly. This has cost me thousands and left me without a vehicle for over a year. This is a part that should last a decade if you take good care of your automobile.

38 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2015

Car started stalling while driving 2 days after purchase. Dealer said use car is as is. But since then 3 different mechanics have look at it and they can't find anything wrong. Last mechanic headed for a week and couldn't find anything. Four months later started to jerk before stalling and the throttle light came on. Three days later the check engine light came back on and the day after it started doing the same thing. Back to the shop and seven days later because it was loosing fuel pressure the fuel pump was replace. Now 2 days later is doing the same thing again. This car can't be repair if they can't find what's wrong. And that included a Dodge dealer that had the car for a week, charge me $75 and couldn't find what's wrong. The car is unsafe, it stall while driving and can cause a serious accident.

39 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

My issue is the windshield wipers stop working or work intermittently, which is a huge problem when it is raining. This is very dangerous. When we started looking up the issue online we noticed a lot of other people having the same issue among other issues. We first tried to replace the switch - still had the problem, then the wiper motor - still had the problem. Now we are told by the Dodge dealership that it prob. Is a wiring issue or the total integrated fuse box thing. This is $1000 at least and has to be done by the dealer because it has to be programmed. I feel this should be a recall on chryslers part since so many people are having this issue and it is a huge safety issue.

40 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2014

Electric throttle- I was driving at 35 all of a sudden my car loses power and my etc lid up and my car slowed down, good thing I was able to merge to the side and stop my car. Ridiator- everysince I had my etc problem my car has been heating up.

41 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2014

This has happened several times but today was the worst. The car has lost power serveral times in the rain mostly when making a turn or slowing down. This time I was driving no rain and the electronic throttle control light starting flashing. I was on the high way and noticed I couldnt accelerate. I started to slow down and move to the side of the road where it just lost power. Thank god I was able to pull over because there was a lot of trafic and I would have been hit. Also my son usually drives this car. This has happened several times to him and when it stalls you loose all power steering and brakes. It is really dangerous. We have had it to the dealer twice and they cant duplicate the problem so according to them there is no problem. I have been reading others complaints and they all seem to be the same issue. Also the airbag light keeps coming on. Is there any resolution to this issue. It seems that people have to die before issues get resolved . I hope Dodge will issue a recall before that happens.

42 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2014

For the last 2 years car has had problems on and off. The rpms increased while driving. They even increased when the brakes are being applied. The causes a major problem especially if trying to drive in inclement weather. I took car to garage and was told there is a bullentin on this specific problem and it should be covered by a recall. I contacted dealership and they said "no recall" on this. After researching the internet I see the 2008 Dodge Avenger has a terrible reputation. I will never purchase another Dodge!!!!.

43 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/21/2014

Intermittent loss of power on acceleration and under load. Suspected throttle body issues with throttle positioner code showing up.

44 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2014

Battery light warning came on, cruise control stopped working, car would no longer shift or was driveable. This occurred on the freeway and we were almost hit. Once stopped the car would not turn back on. This appears to be connected to either recall h07, which may be reoccurring, or to an item that should be recalled relating to the electronic throttle control. There are multiple incidents regarding this item. I've had several completed recalls that don't appear to have been completed or are reoccurring.

45 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2014

Car will not pick up speed and rpm not working. When at red light or stop sign car will cut off no warning.

46 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2014

While driving on the highway a service light came on in my car and my car started slowing down to 5-10 miles an hours on the highway where it would not go. I let the car sit for a few minutes and it started up and drove normal again. It has happened while I was going 35 miles per hour where it will do the same thing. The lighting bolt symbol light comes on.

47 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2014

My car has problem with the blower motor n car would jerk bad.

48 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2014

We have experienced a drop in rpm's in wet weather, mainly at lower speeds during a deceleration mode that felt like the vehicle would die. A slow response to a panicked foot was always what happened. This began at approx. 25,000-30,000 miles. Never while in the dealer repair shop. While driving our 2008 Avenger, there was a rapid deceleration that occurred accompanied by the etc light coming on and flashing. I applied gas and nothing happened, then a split second later, the vehicle suddenly accelerated, etc light went out. I slowly accelerated to 55 mph and noticed that the rpms were higher than usual (3200) for the speed and also felt a hiccup or cutting out feel. I thought that I had lost 4th gear? my husband and I are seasoned auto service advisors & are very much in tune with our vehicles. Along with the aforementioned issues, now at freeway speeds, rpm's will drop; while the engine feels as if it will cut off & etc light comes on, then goes out. I have done extensive research & found on this NHTSA website, approx. 90% of complaints for like vehicles to be exact or similar to what we are experiencing. I stopped looking after 5 pages. (95% of 1st 5 pages are filled with like concerns). I will be contacting the Chrysler corporation as well. Why an official recall has not been announced, befuddles me. I hope this obvious safety issue does not get ignored any longer. 110,000 is on the vehicle odometer now. The mileage we have on our vehicle is a similar common denominator that is easily seen on the other etc related complaints for 2008 Avengers. *note-stop light sw. & accelerator position sensor have been replaced per recommendation of Chrysler technician. This made no difference. (except in our bank account).

49 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

A few things have happened all pointing towards a failed/failing tipm module. The first thing we noticed was the car would stall while sitting still in rush hour/bumper to bumper traffic. Then in early 2014 the windshield wipers started turning off during snow/rain storms almost causing accidents a few times that we replaced the wipers, wiper switch and wiper motor and still have the issue randomly. Last week the horn started to randomly go off to the point that I was driving to work today and it went off and did not stop. Saw the NHTSA investigation into chryslers tipm's so wanted to put something in because I do not see the 2008 Avenger in the lists online and this is more than likely a failing/failed. Tipm. Dealerships want $800-1000 for the replacement, rockauto, com has it for $260 ($200 core charge) $460 total to get the replacement part then return the core. I have a friend with 2006 Dodge 3500 diesel that he had to replace his tipm recently and got one from rockauto. Com as well and recommended them as the go to place given Chrysler's inability to take responsibility to notify their car owners of the potential risk/hazard. I am the original owner of my Avenger and bought it new October 2007.

50 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

On the passenger side, roof of the car, very front corner, the paint is chipping back in the form of a perfect square and starting to rust. The car has not been in any accident to create this. Also a spot on the lower front passenger side door there is some rust. The car has been garage kept for the most part and well maintained.

51 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2013

When I was driving up hill my car started to act sluggish and my check engine light came on. After taking it to meineke and spending $50 for a diagnosis they told me I had to go to Dodge because I had errors p2004 and p2017 that needed to be handled by Dodge directly. After doing some research online all Dodge Avengers built through March 22, 2007 required a new intake manifold (part number 04884495af) because values were getting stuck open. I took my car into the dealership and they tell me it will be $940 because they will need to replace the entire intake manifold and reprogram my car. When I called Chrysler customer service they told me since my car was built in June 2007 I wouldn't qualify for the warranty even if my car had less than 80,000 miles. I did tons of research online and every post that I have read about 2008 Dodge Avengers with p2004 and p2017 codes must pay about $1,000 to get the intake manifold replaced and reprogram the car. This is the 1st Dodge I have ever purchased and will definitely be my last! if everyone that buys this car is having to replace that intake manifold anywhere between 15,000 miles and 110,000 miles Dodge should have to pay for the repairs. They had an issue with the 1st intake manifold design and the cars built after March 22, 2007 don't have any better of a design.

52 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2013

When proceeding from a complete stop, my car stalls. It is in the drive mode and is trying to go but can't, once it does start to go, it jerks forward. And it is starting to do it more often than not. I thought it may have had something to do with my brakes, since they were squeaking, but I have since gotten them repaired and the stalling continues. Also sounds like something is gurrgeling under the hood. Really don't even want to think about how much $$ the repairs are going to cost.

54 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2013

The car would not shift out of park. It was stuck. The tow truck driver took the shifter apart, a pink piece of plastic flew off, then it worked, so no tow. I had to wait til Monday to bring it to the dealer, and was sure k16 recall, from 6/2011 was the problem. But was told it was not a recall, or covered under my warranty. $292. 33. I've seen hundreds of complaints on-line for the same thing. Some were considered a recall, most were not.

55 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2013

My vehicle has been in the repair shop for the same issue over four times within the past two years. The first complaint on 2/19/13. The malfunction is with the vehicle heating system. The first heater core was replaced on 1/20/14, the second heater core on 2/27/14, the third heater core on 4/18/14, and the fourth on 11/12/14. The vehicle loses heat. There have been special filters installed in my vehicle as well, trying to resolve any issue before it reaches the heater core, this attempt has failed as well. The current issue with no heat included anti-freeze dripping on my feet inside the vehicle, just above the gas pedal.

56 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2013

I am fixing my throttle control body for the second time. I bought the 1800 dollar extended warrentee and this work is not covered. To fix its 500 each time. The dealership just says tough luck mr. . . . . The Dodge company just passes you from person to person until you either give up or hear sorry not our problem. This should not fail at all never mind two times in one year!!! I am tellling everyone that will listen to not buy a Dodge product. . . .

57 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2012

It will constantly over heat, even with full anti-freeze in it. It will get to the h in less then 1 min. The transmission light will then come on followed by the lighting bold in the parentheses. All of a sudden it started having a very loud noise (like a diesel truck) and wouldnt let me go over 25 miles without it getting louder. Then I went to turn left to pull over and all the lights came on, went off the heat went from h to c and car steering wheel locked up and car died. . I wouldnt not turn over till 30 mins later. . Started having the loud diesel noise and to 3-4 weeks later (today). . Still over heats today and still leaks anti-freeze (drains the whole thing in 30 mins). I heard there was a re-call for the 08 Avenger in 2012. . I got my car Dec 2012 and the dealership still sold it. . When I found out there used to be a re-call I tried to call dealership to find out they went out of business the next week after I bought it. Sucks cause im stuck with a broken car and $11k still to pay.

58 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2010

I went to go get in my car to go to work after returning home 3 hours earlier and my park would not shift out of park. My wife and I took apart the console to find out if anything was jammed in it such as lose change but there wasn't. She decided to go online to do some research and discovered that this has happened to a lot of people. I have 88,000 miles on my 2008 Dodge Avenger but I take great care with maintenance. Of course there has not been a recall but I hope they do. The pink button everyone is referring to we have not tried yet. . .

59 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2010

The latch that lets you take the car out of park is malfunctioning that only allows you to take the car out of park by pushing a pink latch button under the shifter.

60 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

Radiator loses coolant. This caused the car to over heat and the engine to be replaced, a new radiator and it still loses coolant 4 years later. Can't figure out where the coolant is going as it is never under the car (like a leak).
