general problems of the 2012 Dodge Avenger - part 1

The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Avenger. The contact stated that upon entering the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start at intended. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the catalytic converter. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 137,000.

This is a huge safety issue!!!!!! the engine randomly shuts off, which also causes the brakes to stop working and to have no power steering. Anything connected to the battery is fine (lights, radio, dashboard, etc. ). Myself, any passenger, and those around me are put at risk by the car shutting off in the middle of the road. Someone could hit me because I am not moving, or I am trying to get out of the way. Or I might end up hitting someone else because the brakes don't work. This is a huge risk to life and limb. Noone other than myself has tried to see what is going on with my car, specifically. I have already put out a lot of money on parts that research says it could be. Other people have had the same complaint about their Dodge vehicles. They have even taken them to many repair shops, with no one finding a real answer as to why this is happening. I would just like a car the safe to drive with my kids in it. As it is I fear for their safety if they were to ride in it. They are no warning lights or messages. I fear for my safety, the safety of my children, and the safety of others on the road around me. This car should really not be on the road without a definite answer to the problem.

I was driving to the store and out of nowhere my car completely shut down the lights engine everything my steering wheel locked and I couldn't apply my breaks.

Vehicle in limp mode and won't shift gears property. Started after a purchase of the vehicle had no idea that this was going to be a issue until I had it for about a week and engine light came on and then started the limp mode and then driving it is very dangerous. Because it won't change gear and going up a hill is impossible when it won't change gears. Or speed up. . It slows down instead.

Purchased 2012 Dodge sxt plus at auction. Recharged a/c but lose cold air after 3 days. Evaluations by 2 mechanics, dye, pressure tests, shows no freon leaks. Heater core is leaking and possible evaporator issue, same as what's seen in other complaints for Avengers. Frustrating that the heater core leak is so common on Avengers, mechanics all state is manufacturing issue, but no recall on it. Expensive to replace and no guarantee that it won't go out again.

I have had my 2012 Dodge Avenger for a little over a year. The heat does not work on the passenger side and I was told by the mechanic I purchased from that it was an issue with all these cars and nothing could be done. Also in the past 6 months my car has went dead while driving and would not crank for at least 3 to 4 hours. I was just on this interstate Friday night going 60 and my car went dead and had to coast of the interstate in a really bad part of town. I see that there are many issues with both of these and cannot believe that nothing is being done about this. Thanks Dodge.

The contact recently had its blend door actuator and thermostat replaced because the vehicle continued to blow out cold air. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic for diagnosis and repairs. However the failure reccured. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000 tp.

I have no heat coming from my vents no matter what setting. I've brought the car in to local repair shops and no one can figure out what's wrong. After seeing dozens of complaints on the same issue in different forums I decided to file a complaint.

The manufacturer was contacted and a voice message was left, but they failed to respond. The contact stated that she was terrified to drive the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

Told heater core was bad at 57,000 miles by dealership due to no heat on passenger side but heat on driver's side and is a known manufacture defect in this car. Car is very well maintained.

My 2012 Dodge Avenger caught fire under the hood while I was driving on the fwy. I could not stop the car because the brake became locked in place and I couldnt press it down with my foot. The emergency brake did not work. It was unsafe to get out of the moving car, so I was trapped in the car as the fire under the hood grew rapidly. I was able to get off at the next exit and with quick thinking, I used the curb at the end of the fwy off ramp to help me stop the car. When firefighters arrived, the entire front end of my car was fully engulfed. From my understanding, Chrysler/Dodge has had reapeated complaints regarding similar incidents.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the heater core needed to be replaced. The vehicle was currently being repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were contacted or notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 146,000. The VIN was not available. Ah.

My heat stopped working on half of my car and I flushed the heater core and replaced the blend door actuators and it still doesn't work.

Heater core failure. Noticed the 2012 Dodge Avenger passenger side was not blowing hot air. Instead the air was coming out cold no matter how much the temperature was adjusted. Even after driving to destinations the heat never worked fo the passenger side. Only the driver's side hot air works. Took it to a repair shop and they did a flush 3 times because they said gunk can sometimes build up on those cars in particular, however it did not fix the problem. They informed me that it was the heater core that needed to be repaired. The car only has 63k miles so this is not something that a car with low mileage should experience.

Heater core per Dodge dealership is stopped up. Took it to the dealership because the heat wouldn't get up to a satisfactory temperature, they tested it & said they could try flushing but they thought it needed replacing.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who flushed the heater core but the failure continued to occur. In addition while driving at various speeds the vehicle had shut off. During the failure the warnings electronic throttle, esp activation malfunction, and malfunction indicator lights had illuminated. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer was not notified. The failure mileage was 107,000. Jft.

Passenger side blows cold air, no heat.

This car is totally unsafe worse vechile ever. While driving my car has lost all power making me almost loose control of the car while my kids were in it as well and driving on. The highway. It will be fine then just everything shuts off. It has shit off then not start or I've changed the engine one time and after that it was ok and now a year later is doing g the same exact thing. Car won't start for some odd reason then starts fine 30 min lates I was trying g to start my car n it blew up in my face n blew the air filter off as well this car has been so bad I'm scared to even drive it I also have videos of it driving g fine then just shutting down completely this is the worse vehicle ever way to unsafe the electrical system starts going hay wire flashing the lighe off n and the car alarm will go off when no body has touched it or done anything to make it go off there's more just really uoset can't think of them.

I own a Dodge 2012 Avenger and had some issues here and there but this is the first time the vehicle just died for no reason. I was stopped in heavy traffic on a hill, ready to merge onto the freeway. The light turned green and I stepped on the gas peddle and nothing happened. I wasn't sure what was going on so I put on my hazard lights which thankfully worked. I could tell straight away that the car wasn't even on so I put it in park and turned the key and it started up. This is an issue that needs to be addressed by Dodge as it poses a major safety hazard especially if I'm in the middle of heavy traffic on a freeway.

Driving at 50-55 mph and check engine and other dashboard lights flashed and started losing power. Pulled off to side street a few feet away. I was lucky to be able to get in center turn lane where the car died completely. Power steering also was lost. We pushed car off road where it restarted about 1/2 hour later. Driving home less then 5 miles it died but started again.

Climate control blows cold air on the passenger side and warm air on the drivers side when heat is on and driving. Engine temperature does not reach normal operating temperature when driving in cold weather. Took to my local trusted mechanic and he diagnosed the heater core is plugged with debris. Looked online and the Dodge Avenger have numerous complaints with that same issue. Called Chrysler group and made a complaint and got a case number. I have an appointment later this week to have it diagnosed by a Dodge dealership for the record.

I took my car to ntb they stated there was a recall on my car for the transmission and I got online to check for recalls and it sais 0 detected but I believe this needs to be reassured. There was a recall back in 2015 and I would like for it to happen again.

Passenger side blows cold air when heat is on.

Having to replace heater core and odometer at 47700 miles. Lights are flickering behind odometer. Told sand from casing clogging heater core. This was no fault of my own and needs to be recalled to fix this very big and common expensive problem.

Passenger side heater blowing cold air during all operation phases. Dealer stated due to sand casting from the aluminum block plugging the heater core. The vehicle has close ton 50k miles.

1 year ago passenger side began blowing cool air, now only blows cold air. Drivers side used to blow hot air, now only blows warm air. Defrost is only warm on drivers side. Actuator doors have been replaced, still doesn't work. Estimated price to repair >$1200 due to the heater core needing to be replaced.

Brake recall: the brakes grab or slow to stop causing it to not stop in a straight line or jump, flutter or hesitate to brake. Engine recall: got car 6/2017 clinging noise, after 70,000 miles, all oil changes 1000 miles before its due, started after the 2 oil change. Small of burning wire smell. (oil change 4 days go now engine light on) fuel propusion system recall: car seems to shift funny when pushing gas, struggling for gas to flow when pushing the gas.

I was driving when my car lost power multiple times with the key in the ingition. The third time all of the lights on the dash went off and I had to coast into a parking spot. I had to jump the vehicle to get it started.

While driving on the interstate doing about 65mph at 5am, I disengaged the cruise control on my vehicle, my car all the sudden turned off and lost complete power, including steering, brakes, and acceleration. The key was still in the on position. This is a major safety hazard! had I not been able to coast and engage the emergency break, I would have crashed and most likely suffered serious bodily injuries or death. This is the third time this has happened to me and I have read this has happened to others already as well. The entire electrical system failed because my engine turned off as well as the dashboard completely went dark to include headlights, turn signals, and the hazard lights. My vehicle has stopped in motion all the sudden for no apparent reason two times in one week. I made an appointment with the dealership to get the vehicle diagnosed but I am still afraid to drive to the dealership because it may happen again while driving either on the highway, interstate, or on any street. I am not 100% certain what caused the vehicle to turn off while in motion 3 times already in one week but it has created a major safety hazard for myself and other motorist on the highway/interstate. I believe it has something to do with the electrical system or engine because the lost of complete power is what occurs each time.

Driving home from work at 5:40 pm, 3 deer ran out and after slamming on brakes the last one was struck, head on. The hood buckled and the entire engine of the car imploded in flames. No airbags went off and the car immediately died. I was able to pull car over to the side of the road and get out of car however, the car burned completely. The car engulfed in flames and the engine, windows, entire inside, everything burned. There is no dash, no steering wheel, seats, front tires, etc are gone. There is very little left and the manufaturer had an investigation done and will not tell me why this happened. My husband has a 2014 Avenger and we want to know if it is safe. But were told my manufacturer representative they would not tell me because they would not want it out in the public.

Lack of heat in the car. The system was flushed and found a huge amount of sludge build up due in the heater core. The windshield would not defrost enough for the car to be driven. We had a family emergency and could not drive it. The system could fail during a drive cycle of day with extreme cold weather and put my family in danger. Dodge has admitted it was due to a casting problem. I can not sell this vehicle or I will be upside down in the value. The cost of the fix at the dealer ship is over $1200.

Ashley was driving down the 294 expressway and the car just turned off all electric items went dead. I called for a tow and was at the dealership 3 to 4 days. Dealer mechanic took car home same thing happened to him needed a tow to the shop. Then on 10/13 the car wouldnt start again. The alternator was replaced from first visit and Dodge says no codes are coming up and are not fixing anything. My guess it will continue happening until further investigated by Dodge.
