Car was already warmed and driven for about 5 miles, after stopping at a gas station to refuel and re-starting, it was idling very inconsistently and running rough, shaking. There was a dash indicator for electronic throttle control flashing. I tried driving it and there was jerking and pulling and the transmission wouldn't shift past 2nd, car would not accelerate beyond 12-15 mph. I made it home (about 2 miles) and left the car for about 6 hours. Upon restarting and warming, the car drove fine. About 1 1/2 weeks later, the same dash light came on, steady not flashing, car rumbled, then light went off and the car was fine. This happened on and off for about 2 weeks. Then, when ready to leave from work one day, I started the car to warm it and the indicator light came on and stayed on, the car was running very rough, idle was fluctuating between about 500-1500 rpms and shaking. I left the car, assuming when I came back the next day it would start and be fine just like the 2 times before, but that was not the case. I drove the car to a nearby mechanic, maxing out at about 15 mph, strangely the car seemed to pick up speed when I eased off the accelerator, and steady loss of speed while going up hill. The mechanic could not fix or even diagnose the problem, said it has to go to the dealer. It seems to be something to do with the throttle control. I will update it once I hear from the dealer later today.

Vehicle was purchased brand new in 2008. December 24th 2013 at only 43,000 miles I had to replace athethrottle body which wasn't covered under a warranty and I had to pay $367 to have fixed. My car is in excellent condition & when I spoke with different Dodge dealerships I was told that it's just a glitch that happens to some cars but nobody could tell me why at 43,000 miles I was experiencing a major repair! also the dealership who fixed the car said that the part was on back order it could take up to 3 months to get part cause evidently the part was in high demand. That tells that there is something faulty goin on with Dodge vehicles. This needs to be researched further to see if a recall should happen! I will never purchase another Dodge not only because the cars are horribly made but there dealerships are not customer friendly (I even contacted the Dodge CO. & got nowhere) after the vehicle has been purchased. I wanted to support & buy american but I've found out the hard way that maybe by buying foreign will get a reliable car!.
While driving my 2007 Dodge Caliber with my two young kids in the back my electronic throttle control light on the dashboard came on about 30 seconds later my car would not accelerate. I was able to pull into a parking lot without causing an accident. After buying a e. T. C. And having it replaced about 12 months later the etc went out again this time on the highway while doing 65 mph my car would no longer accelerate the etc had rusted closed again. Liking online some of these cars have been recalled for an issue withthe etc. I'm afraid for my family's safety there's no warning other than a light and moments later your car iisno longer accelerating.

Accelerated from red light to get on to the freeway, car lurched forward and stalled. Power was lost and had to limp to safely get to the side of the road. Electronic throttle light (bars with lightning bolt) came on. Shut the car completely off and restarted, drove 20 feet and the same thing happened again. Shut the car off again for 5-7 min and was able to safely get off the freeway. Took in to private mechanic the next day and was informed that the throttle body it self went bad and he as seen this a lot with different models of Dodge vehicles, yet no recall has been issued. Is going to cost me $500 to get it fixed. I bought the car brand new in 2006 so warranty is out due to age.
I have been having intermittent starting problems for 5 months. I turn the key and the car is dead or it attempts to turn over. Usually after 6 - 8 tries it will start, twice I have been stranded because it would not start at all. I have had witnesses in the car with me when it happens and others who have driven the car have had the same problem. Chrysler dealers refuse to attempt to fix the problem as they have not been able to get it to fail at their site. It has been in and out of service for over 20 days since June. Chrysler group says they will refund part of the repair costs if "I" can identify the problem. They apparently cannot identify it. The car now has 31,750 miles on it. I no longer drive it because it is unreliable. So I have a $17,775 car which I made payments on for 4 years which is useless. I would appreciate any help you can offer. I am desperate. I cannot afford to buy another new car right now.

I had been driving for a few hours at approximate 65 mph. Some of which was on cruise. All of a sudden my vehicle started slowing down. My speedometer said 60 mph. However, I was probably at 30. I stepped on the gas and the rpm went high but I didn't get any speed. Basically, the speedometer wasn't recording the speed I was at and the transmission was not working in increasing speed. I had it towed back to phoenix and the Dodge dealership in mesa, az checked it over and told me that there was a "fluke" with the ctv transmission in this model and they had been seeing a lot of this as people were driving from phoenix to flagstaff which is a gradual increase over a number of miles and people were having the same issues that I did. I was told the the cvt transmission goes into "limp" mode when this happens and basically shuts down. I was also led to believe they could do nothing about it. I'm surprised there isn't a recall on this model and transmission. When I goggled 2010 Dodge Caliber transmission problems, I came up with a utube video documenting exactly what I had experienced.

My engine stalls when at stop light/signs. This happens after refueling the car. I heard of other Chrysler/Dodge models that have had the same problem that are being investigated though my car is not the same engine or years being looked at. Engine is 2. 4 l. It does this for up to about 10 times and I can keep it running in neutral and revving the engine. Not sure of the date that I first notices this but has been happening for about a year or so. Mileage and date are from latest time.
On the day of the incident my car started jerking and acted like it would die when I gave the car gas. I took it to a mechanic who did an oil change and checked the engine codes. I picked the car up from that mechanic and the car was still doing the same thing. I took it to another mechanic and they updated the computer on the car, changed the plugs and flushed the motor. The car is still doing the same thing. The other day I was excellerating up a hill and the red lightning bolt light came on the car was still running but was not getting any gas. I pulled over and stopped the car and started it again and did not excellerate or anything till I got to my distination. Seems like this is a problem with this car that needs to be delt with. I have spent over $400 trying to solve a problem that seems to be a problem with this type of Dodge.
The car would fail to start using remote starter on occasion then progressed to starting w/remote start but when the key inserted the car would shut down. Progressed with extra problems such as not having power when it did stay running. Would only go 10 mph, sputtering, with electronic throttle control coming on. I turned car off and tried again and ran for awhile and regained speed and w/out missing/sputtering. Appear random and continued to work and in heavy traffic car begins to rapid decent in speed (50 mph to quick drop to 10 mph) with etc light on. With drop down in speed/momentum and not because of breaking the reason that left no indication to the person(s) behind me to have a warning. I put emergency flashers on and got to a safer place. Turned car off/on, repeated sometimes w/remote was the only way to start car but many times placing the key in the ignition actually shut the car down. Improved at times but with no warning the car would go into to rapid decrease in speed and even try to stall at times, especially if it was combined with braking at stop signs/signals/traffic. The dealership only focused on the electronic throttle control and said it was completely out. The actual day I left it at dealership it was running fine that particular morning. I have had it back 1 day but I am very concerned with a repeat history of this due to no real warning because the light appears as you are already shutting down/slowing down. By the time the light comes on someone behind me could already have hit me and I usually travel interstate and this is scary. The car also wanted increase on a couple of moments but this was not as much as the reverse. Car is just over a couple of years old & I have also just replaced the driver door mechanism for the window operation (dropped when it broke). Vent system repaired.
Engine warning lights flash, warning check engine light disappear, reappear at will, wont start, system failure, loss of power, speed limit acute loss of power, stalling of engine while at freeway speeds, stalling out at 35-40 mph speeds, noise at gas pedal.
My 17 yr old daughter was driving our 2008 Dodge Caliber when acceleration was lost. The car started shaking when she tried to give it fuel and the electronic throttle system like came on. Needless to say, she was very shaken by this ordeal. We have an extended warranty that we purchased through carmax, with a 300. 00 deductible, however the warranty company would only pay 144. 00 dollars of the 647. 00 total bill. The car has approx 70,000 miles so I don't understand why the throttle system would be defective. According to the repair shop, the needle inside the throttle that feeds the fuel was defective. Luckily my daughter was not on the main highway when it went out, otherwise it could have been more serious. I am voicing my complaint on this part and all be ware of the throttle needle going bad. I will also make this a formal complaint with Dodge as well.
Whenever I have the lights on, radio on, fan blower on, and I'm stopped at a light in drive mode (automatic transmission), the engine shakes and dies. It's almost as if the car is experiencing computer overload. Too many things going on for the car to handle so the computer crashes causing the car to die. The car always starts back up. No indicator lights go off on the dash. It only happens occasionally under the above mentioned circumstances. If you add on the front & rear wipers same thing happens. I've had it checked out at 3 different places, paying and for free, and they all tell me they could not find anything wrong with the car. This is a serious safety issue especially since I have a baby in the car. I have aaa and road side assistance through my insurance but they always take an hour to get to you. I've never had to use them because the car always starts back up again. This car needs to be recalled because other wise the car functions normally as long as I don't have the lights on, radio on, fan blower on, and I'm stopped at a light in drive mode. If you put it in neutral sometimes the car wants to stall but it doesn't always prevent the car from shutting down. Read lots of complaints about this model, similar issue.
When pumping gas I cannot allow it to 'fill up' because the gas will leak out instead of telling the handle to stop pumping gas as it normally should. I am aware that Dodge durango had a recall on this very matter, yet the Caliber has not. I have to keep track of how many gallons I put in so as not to let it over flow. Am I the only owner of a Dodge Caliber having this issue with the fuel system/gasoline?.
A small brass bushing fell on my right foot one day while driving. I picked it up and put it in the console cup holder. A few days later while accelerating onto the highway the gas pedal stuck and the engine revved. This has happened a few times since. I called Chrysler to check if my Caliber was covered under the gas pedal recall. I was told the recall only covered vehicles from a certain date range. My Caliber was manufactured 2/06.
When driving on highway car looses power break light comes on and off dealer states it's nothing get oil change from dealer stated nothing is wrong.
This has happened many times before yesterday. While driving on the freeway, the check engine light comes on, and the car go into a "limp" mode (very little power), and even at full pedal, it slowly slows down. Having had it happen several times before, I learned to pull over, and shut off the car, and let it set for a few minutes. Sometimes times this is not easy, or safe to do. Then it is hard to restart, but will drive somewhat better. This allows me to get to a place that I can shut it off for an extended amount of time (1/2 hour), and then it runs more like normal, but the check engine light stay on for several days. After the check engine light goes out, it is running normal again until the next time. So far, this has not caused an accident, but I'm sure somebody will be hurt or killed before this gets recalled. Good luck follow drivers.
On 7/9/10 I pulled into a parking space @ office where I work, I took my foot off the gas pedal the car began to slow as I went to touch the brake the car accelerated and lunged forward I pressed on the brake it did not slow down it jump the carb & than hit the wall of the building putting a hole in it also breaking off a drain pipe, on the outside. I went inside the office and there was two cracks in the wall inside. The front bumper was broke in two places on the car. I called my insurance state farm & reported it. My office informed the business complex manager. Had the car towed the chapman Dodge for repairs.
2007 Dodge Caliber r/t awd. My wife found 2 small brass bushings on the drivers side floor. While I was driving the car, during acceleration onto an interstate, it appeared that the accelerator pedal stuck and car continued to accelerate even after I removed foot from pedal. I pulled the pedal up with my foot to free up pedal. I searched online and found a couple of other references to a similar problem occurring with other Caliber owners. Took vehicle to my preferred mechanic, and he has to order a new accelerator pedal assembly.
My 2007 Dodge Caliber has had 5 episodes of the accelerator going to the floor and the car speeding up and the rpm going to high, each time I have been driving. The first time from arizona to arkansas and at aprox 800 miles it happened and as one is when traveling I was tired and things were cluttered so I assumed it was the floor mat and pulled it down and went on. I was able to put the car in neutral so that I did not speed up and hit the car in front of me. The second time I was driving and after about 20 miles it did the same thing and I took the matt out. I was able to stick my foot under the peddle and pull it up and put the car in neutral and then back in drive and it was then behaving normal. The next time I was surprised because I did think it was the matt and the matt was gone. Doing the same thing putting the car in neutral as I was driving and back in drive , this time I had to keep doing this as I coasted on the road and on the 3 rd time it went back to normal. The rest if the times were on the same trip to the dealer, a 50 mile trip, all the same , the car accelerator pedal goes down, the car speeds up , I put it in neutral and pull the pedal up and then after a few times it works for a undetermined amount of miles. The dealer has now told me they reset the system and it should not happen again but should it then they will need to replace some things. Dodge in russellville arkansas, I hope it is fixed. My fear is this will happen as I'm pulling out somewhere and cause a wreck, or it will happen to someone else and they won't think so fast to put car in neutral, on the internet I found many stories about the Dodge Caliber accelerator throttle not working correctly and Dodge dealers not sure what the problem was , please check into this to save lives before any are lost that don't need to be lost. Thank you.
In July 2009 I returned to the dealer for a service, I also complained about the car intermittently not accelerating properly from a stop or near stop, it hesitated dramatically. The dealer could not replicate the problem and could do nothing to fix it. This is still an ongoing issue. Then in June of 2013, while driving on a four lane highway at approximately 65 miles an hour, the car lost all acceleration, a moment later started a warning beep and the check engine light came on. I immediately put on the flashers while trying to maneuver from the middle lane to the shoulder of the road, after a week at the mechanic he called me to inform me that it could be the crank sensor, which was a known issue with this model vehicle. He replaced the sensor and I was informed that the issue was corrected. I didn’t get five miles from the mechanic when the car again lost all acceleration and the engine light came on again. The mechanic towed the car back the next day. He had the representative from Chrysler to his shop several times regarding the issue. The rep thought the computer needed an update and that is what was done, it did not solve the issue. (I was never notified by Chrysler that the computer had updates that were required. ) the mechanic had several other professionals look at the car, all of which were not finding the problem. They also had no new computer codes, which was when they realized the power train control module was the problem. This took a month to solve and the cost was $1130.
Car wouldn't start because of defective tipm. I often travel the freeway and was experiencing a brief pause in the fuel systems while trying to accelerate. After research I have found that this is a common issue with a variety of Dodge model cars and feel that this could be very dangerous to the public in general. I feel the implications that this type of system failure has on these models as well as their safety feature is numerous. I also quite sure that the company is well aware of its defects, yet they are doing nothing to protect their consumers.
