takata recall I was getting in my car to head to work at approximately 10:40pm when I tried starting the car but it stalled and all electrical power shut down. I tried again and it did the same. After researching, I found out that my car has a recall (p60) for the alternatordiode thermal fatigue. I had been having problems with the vehicle stalling for a week before this happened but it seem to crank after a while but now it's not starting at all. It happen once only while I was driving. 5 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2017

Driving down a city street at night alternator stops working. Everything electrical shuts off - able to roll mostly into a turning lane in the middle of the street before it stopped. Everything electrical turns off - no lights -other drivers cannot see the car. Left in a very vulnerable unsafe position - I could have been seriously injured. Unable to shift into neutral to push out of road. Left in a very unsafe position. Called tow truck who was able to get there before anything bad happened. Learned of the recall over the internet - I was never notified of a recall. If I had know there was a recall, I would have repaired the car - I never would have driver this car if I had known. Dodge does not have a "fix" in place so I must repair the car on my own and wait until they get it figured out over at Dodge.

6 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2017

Car stalls right after initial starting attempt 50% of time. Must cycle the starting button three times to get the car to start. Occurs randomly hot or cold. No engine codes occur. Dealer has no idea what the problem is but suggests that it might be the key fobs or something called a "win" module. The problem began right after an alternator failure. I am not willing to invest money in repairing this issue unless there is a clear manufacturer strategy to fixing the problem.

7 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2017

The alternator in my 2011 Challenger failed. I took the vehicle to a private repair facility. They tried to order a replacement alternator, and the dealership would not release them the part, claiming they, the dealership, must perform the repair. This is not what the recall letter states, nor can or will the dealership perform this repair in a timely manner. My car has been down since 9/22, and the dealer will not perform the repair until 10/5.

My alternator had a sudden failure that left my stranded in the middle of the road. My cat started slow, but I ran a systems check and no alerts showed on the dash. I started driving down a major hwy when my abs light flashed on and off once. I pulled to the safest place I could find on the road and turned my car off and tried the restart. Car would not start and I was stranded. I finally had someone stop and jump me off. I drove directly to the shop and had my battery replaced. The next day as I am driving to work my battery charging system light comes on. I once again get left stranded.

12 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2016

While driving my 2011 Dodge Challenger r/t all of a sudden all of the interior lights just lite up like a christmas tree. I was able to slow down and stop the car and then I proceeded to turn off the car. As I was trying to determine what happened I then opened the hood and saw the alternator smoking like it had just caught fire or over heated. The smoke cleared and I tried starting the car but it would not crank. I had to have the car towed. This happened without warning.

The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.

14 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2016

Alternator failed on my drive home from work (mix of highway and city roads) and also damaged the battery. Required tow and replacement of battery and alternator. It's not just the 3. 6 because mine is a 5. 7 and I read others had it happen too.

15 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2016

Driving in rush hour traffic on a busy city street had an alternator issue on date listed above in my 2011 Dodge Challenger with only 34,500 miles. The abs, trac control, battery saver, seat belt and other dashboard lights came on and off then the car shut down and would not restart. Battery is less than one week old. As I am out of warranty, and aware of a recall on alternators in certain 2011 Chrysler vehicles I called Chrysler and they took an incident report and conceded to me that although the alternator is the same manufacturer, voltage, model and part number they would not honor the open recall because my engine is the v8 5. 7 liter and not the v6 model. I am worried the dealer will also fail to honor the recall and not repair my vehicle. This is despite the fact that I had taken my car to the dealer several months prior and asked them to check on a loud whining noise coming from the engine compartment. I believe that noise was the failing alternator. They told me the noise was a result of my removing the plastic engine cover the car came with- what nonsense. The p60 recall needs to be expanded to all 2011 Dodge Challengers using this alternator not just the v6 models.

16 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2016

I have 39,000 miles on my v-8 hemi 5. 7. The car began making a whining noise in November 2015. Dealer found nothing. Headlights would dim and windows became sluggish to roll up/down. January 30, 2016 it wouldn't start. Thank god it was parked at the time because everything went dead and immobile. I told the dealer to check the alternator (I'm not a mechanic) and they found the alternator was bad. I've been told there is a weak "clutch" plate or pulley in these alternators and some are beefing this area up on the rebuilts but still only guarantee them for 3 years. The v-6 has a recall on the exact same alternator and I feel the v-8 for this year should be included. With labor the dealer wanted 590. 32 to repair as it wasn't included under my extended warranty with moss bros. Unreal! how can you recall an exact same part for one and not the other?.

17 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2016

The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the engine stalled while all the lights illuminated. The vehicle was not able to restart. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was not aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 63,666.

18 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2015

My 2011 Dodge charger v8 has less than 45k miles and my alternator went out this week, I did research to find out there is a recall but only on the v6 engine, not the v8. The v6 and the v8 models have the same 160amp alternator, both the models need to be added to the recall.

19 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2015

Strange noise coming from engine , resulting in power failure. I was able to pull over to a gas station and call aaa. Aaa gave my battery a jump but they told me that the alternator is dying and unable to recharge battery. Looks like there's a recall for 3. 6l engine for alternators, but I have a r/t v8 and I'm having the same issue. This should also be included in the recall as this is dangerous and sounds like the exact same issue .

20 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2015

The car died while driving down a city street losing all power and functionality. I recieved a safety recall notification for the alternator at the beginning of the month, I am assuming that is the issue.

21 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2015

Dodge Challenger rt alternator drained battery until the car shut down while I was in motion. Lost all power brakes and power steering.

22 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2015

I was driving my vehicle and was waiting to make a left turn at the intersection. My battery appeared to be losing power and I lost my power steering. I believe the alternator went bad which led to the battery dying while driving, causing me to lose power. This was dangerous as I could have lost power and may have caused an accident. I will be taking it to a mechanic to get the alternator replaced. I see Dodge has some recalls on alternators but not sure if it applies to my vehicle.

23 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2015

I have 2 recalls pending on my Dodge Challenger, one for front airbags failing and one for the alternator diodes possibly causing fire. Dodge wants to take my car for 2 days but I have no other vehicle. I asked how was I supposed to get home, they said a bus or taxi. I am not taking a taxi an hour ride to get home, then to and from work because they want to recall my car, so I asked for a loaner and was told no. I keep calling their recall assistance center, and they tell me that their system is down and to call back at another time. How is their system always down? why do I have to spend money out of pocket on a temporary vehicle so they can fix their own recall? I can't afford to rent a car or use a taxi (busses dont run through my area). So I take off of work and possibly get fired, or continue to drive a defective vehicle and possibly die?.

24 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2015

2011 Dodge Challenger. Consumer writes in regards to the alternator recall notice and seeks reimbursement for repairs. The consumer attached the recall notice.

25 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2015

Recall repair work was done on the alternator in 2011 Dodge Challenger. On the following day, the exact thing happened again. All of the dash lights came on and the vehicle lost power. After the vehicle was stopped, it was unable to be started again. The vehicle had to be towed for the 3rd time to the dealership. Now they say that there is nothing that can be done because it's not doing it now. Dodge is going to get someone killed. Dodge customer service and the dealership were useless in attempting to help. They basically told us that since it wasn't doing that now, there was nothing they could do.

26 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2015

Just got through an intersection instrument panel all lights started flashing then car shut down could not steer had no hazard lights nothing it is part of a Chrysler recall was a very dangerous situation it was dark my car is black and I had no way of letting traffic know I was there if I had a flare in the trunk I couldn't get to it as latch is electrical and so it didn't work. I had it towed to the dealer who said he couldn't help me for weeks and no courtesy car was available to me and if it was a recall it cold not be fixed because there is no fix for the recall yet they are supposed to give me priority service after speaking with the recall center but I am to pay all charges and then try to get reimbursed from Chrysler. The Chrysler care center said they would pay for the new alternator but not the rental or diagnostic charge and that the shutdown could happen again, until they can come up with a fix for the alternator issue recall p60 this was a very dangerous situation because of a faulty manufactured part I don't feel I should have to incur any expense or be forced to drive an unsafe car I bought the car in good faith and I expected it to be safe. My car was not looked at today as promised hopefully tomorrow I did not receive any call back from the dealer. I think its criminal that owners of these vehicles are expected to drive them until they can get to fixing the part had I been on the freeway in 70 mph traffic I doubt I would be here to write this complaint. Several cars and semi trucks came very clos to hitting my car until a state trooper could get there to provide flashing lights while waiting for the tow truck. I had no warning the car just completely shut down.

27 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

My alternator is in recall. It is said to power down without any warning or notice, and it powered down on me in January. It was towed to Chrysler Dodge Jeep of paramus. They did not yet have the recall alternator, so they were authorized to give me a new one. This however does not satsfy the recall, and I was told to come back when the recall part is available. I came back last week, and they did not perform the recall. They told me that the part put into the car in January is "just as good" and "satsfies the recall". I was told the same thing by their customer service manager, parts supervisor and ultimately their general manager, dean redmond. Eventually, Chrysler corporate finally confirmed that this is not the case, and the part in my car in fact is not at all safe. Five separate "experts" at this dealership erroneously told me that my car is safe, and left me with a potentially deadly part in my car. The general manager, dean redmond, wrote back to me that the part in my car is "correct" and then ignored my subsequent messages. I would like somebody to hold them accountable, because this is highly dangerous and unacceptable.

29 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2014

The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer who diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired and the failure recurred within weeks. The contact was not able to get the vehicle to start and after experiencing the failure for months, a notice was received for NHTSA campaign id number: 14v634000 (electrical system). The dealer indicated that the part and remedy were not available to replace the alternator assembly. The vehicle was not repaired and the contact continued to experience the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.

30 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2014

While driving home with my 2011 Dodge Challenger v6, the dashboard lights (abs, traction control, airbags, etc) came on. I was driving around 60 mph and shortly thereafter the car lost power. Steering locked, I somehow stayed on the road and slowed down with the brake power I had left and the emergency brake. Since I was on a turn I kept going to the shoulder. Finally stopped and the whole car just died. I read about alternator failure in this particular model. This sounds exactly like that but, the recall is still 2 weeks away. I had the car towed to a local Chrysler/ Dodge dealership. Now saddled with a bill for repairs that I hope I can get reimbursed for.

31 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2014

I was driving at approximately 40 mph and had to slow down for traffic. As I did, many of the dash lights came on include electronic stability and brake. They went on and off as a I slowed and then speeded up so that I could pull of the road. As as I tried to pull off the car just died and I lost steering control. I coasted into a side parking lot and couldn't go any further. Towed to dealership and was told it's the alternator. So there is a recall on the alternator coming in three weeks. But in the meantime I have to shell out $1,200 for an alternator and new battery and hope that Chrysler fixes this fuck up and decides to bother issuing me a refund. And then once the recall - that everyone has known is coming for two months - finally does come out, I have to have the damn thing replaced again. And hope that in the meantime, Chrysler actually figures out how to fix the problem - which it says it doesn't currently know how to do.

32 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2014

The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated that while at a stop light, the vehicle stalled several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 47,000.

33 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2014

Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, without warning the vehicle stalled which caused a failure in the braking system and power steering. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the alternator had failed and needed to be replaced. The alternator was replaced. The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 28,000. Ah.

34 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2014

2011 Dodge Challenger - driving at 40mph and abs, esp, and brake assist lights were illuminated. Then the emergency brake and seat belt lights started flashing. The entire instrument panel started flickering then everything blacked out and the car lost power; had to use the emergency brake to stop the car. I had the car towed to the dealership where I purchased the car. Diagnostics showed that the alternator and battery needed to be replaced. . . An $1,100 repair job. After-market parts are not available for this make/model so it is very expensive! (luckily the dealership was willing to work with me and offered a "goodwill warranty. ") ultimately, it's a repair that shouldn't be needed on a car that's 3 years old with less than 50k miles. This is definitely a defect that needs to be addressed by Chrysler; this malfunction puts drivers in serious danger.

35 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2014

Over the past year, I have had major power/battery issues with my car not starting after sitting over night. The first time, I was told by the dealership that it was my 2 year old alternator which cost me nearly $700 to replace. Less than 4 months later, mysteriously my battery also had to be replaced, which was another $300 plus. A few weeks ago, while I was driving, my window starting going up and down intermittently. I mentioned this to my son, who had the car with him during the time of all the issues, he stated that he told the dealership about it, and they said it was the "Smart window" and offered to repair it for some crazy amount of money. But never did they allude to the fact that the Smart window was the cause to my alternator and battery failure. My new battery will no longer hold a charge, and I am having to either disconnect it every night, or jump start it every morning. When I called Chrysler about this issue, after learning that there are many Chrysler vehicles that have been recalled for this issue, I was told that mine is not on the list, but that I could take it to a dealership spend more money on diagnostics and they could repair it for me! I am a single mom who got stuck with this car in a divorce. I should not have to deal with all of these expensive issues with such a young car. This is poor business by Chrysler, and I will surely not buy from them again!.
