2 Seats problem of the 2021 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 09/22/2024

On [xxx] I was traveling s/b on [xxx] in florida in my Dodge Challenger which I purchased from new smyrna Dodge this year. I was traveling approx 65 mph and all of a sudden the back of my drivers seat went back all the way putting me in a flat position against the rear seat. I was lucky enough to pull myself up and keep control of the vehicle. The incident could have been a disaster because my father was also riding in the vehicle on the passenger side. I pulled over on the median and checked the drivers seat thinking maybe the manual recline had just slipped. In doing so I saw that the metal frame on the right side of the seat had snapped where it connects to bottom of seat frame. Obviously it is a defect in the metal because the frame was not damaged in any way and metal just to broke(snapped). Had it happened in an accident the injury could have been severe. These seat are suppose meet certain standards. I responded to the dealer today and spoke to a service representative who did agree it was probably a defect because he never heard of that happening but also said unfortunately you are just over warranty by three thousand miles. Stated you can leave car but it will involve full days labor taking seat apart. Doesn't say much for dealer mechanics. Also said there was no recall on it but admitted when it happened could have been serious accident. He also made no attempt to even go out and look at it. If in fact this is a defect people's lives could be in danger. If I wasn't able to pull myself up immediately to a sitting position we probably would have had an accident. The actions of this dealer did not surprise me at all. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

3 Seats problem of the 2015 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 04/22/2024

Passenger seat sliding mechanism not locking / latching properly. When coming to a stop the passenger seat will slide forward, sometimes an inch or two but sometimes further. This is a very well know issue I have discovered across multiple internet message boards and is due to inadequate slide bearings, and has been ongoing for years.

4 Seats problem of the 2023 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 03/14/2024

The passenger side seat does not return to the "home" position when the "easy entry" handle is used to enter the rear seat from the door opening (the vehicle is a 2 door). Therefore, the seat slams into the knees of the passenger seated behind the passenger causing injury. Therefore, after the rear passenger enters, when the front passenger tries to return the seat to its starting position, the seat slides along the rails all the way till it hits the final stops. This happens regardless of the starting position of the seat along the rails. So, for example, if the seat is adjusted to be all the way forward, once the easy entry handle is used, the seat will slide all the way back on the rails and will lock in the final position. The only exception seems to be if the seat back is returned to its home position first, prior to sliding the seat back. Even in that case, the seat still slides back further than its initial home position. If passengers aren't careful, the vehicle begins to move before the seat is locked into position, and now, with the full weight of the front passenger, the seat slides back and crashes into the knees of the passenger causing injury.

6 Seats problem of the 2015 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 02/12/2022

I hadn’t on my car for very long when I stepped on the brakes and my passenger seat flew clear up to the dash. When I stopped and looked at it, they were little metal teeth all over the place underneath the seat. It won’t go all the way up and lock it will only go all the way back and semi lock. If there’s someone sitting in the passenger seat when I press on the brakes, it moves up a few inches and then back it will not lock completely.

8 Seats problem of the 2014 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 03/04/2020

The passenger seat in this car started shedding bearing components while under warranty. Dealer was informed, but explained that the seat was functioning and adjustable and so no repair was done. Later, just after the warranty expired, the seat failed to latch properly and is loose because the bearings on seat track have failed to stay in place. The seat is no longer safe to sit in and does not adjust or latch properly. The seat track is an expensive repair and the part is not in stock from local dealer and is back ordered. They are not certain when they can find a replacement. The passenger seat is not safe for an occupant unless repairs are made. This should be a recall issue as it is a safety problem. The dealer will not repair it because it is out of warranty and parts are not available.

10 Seats problem of the 2018 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 10/23/2019

My front driver side tire keeps losing air so I try to get my tire fixed, come to find out that my rim has a small crack. I've never experienced a cracked rim on a less than 2 year old car. It picks and chooses when it wants to keep air which is not safe and these rims cost way too much. Also my driver seat has a squeaking noise which is irritating, it happened when I was driving on the highway around 60 when I came across a dip in the road which caused me to bounce up slightly. It periodically squeaks.

11 Seats problem of the 2015 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 10/18/2019

Passenger seat does slides back / forward - does not lock in position. The movement of the seat would be very unsafe in a collision or accident. The passenger seat became stiff to slide and rollers fell out. Now, the seat moves freely front to back with accel / decel. In additiona, when the seat is moved up / forward to allow a passenger to enter the backseat, it will not push back down in position without manually releasing a cable under the seat. There has been some kind of failure in the seat leading to an unsafe condition. When trying to figure out what went wrong and what fixes are out there, it became clear many others have had the same issue.

19 Seats problem of the 2013 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

Bearings started falling out, which allows the seat to slide forward and backwards. Without these bearings the seat will no longer slide forward or backwards, when an adjustment is needed. However, when the brakes are applied, the seat will slide forward for no reason, or when I accelerate the seat will slide backwards. My mom's knees were damaged during a minor collision because of this issue. She is in her 80's. This is very concerning and may thrust someone forward during an airbag deployment. My airbag didn't deploy as I was able to brake and this was during a right turn at a traffic signal, so there wasn't enough speed to deploy the airbags.
