Dodge Dakota owners have reported 13 problems related to other fuel system (under the other fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Dodge Dakota based on all problems reported for the Dakota.
My 2001 Dodge Dakota has a faulty skim system. The vehicle goes into no-start/stall while driving down the road. I have had it at a dealership and they do not have technical experience with these older vehicles that require an “antiquated software system”. This is a dangerous situation, particularly in foothills with winding roads.

My 2006 Dakota filler tube spits the gas back out onto the pavement when trying to refuel. It takes a very long time to refuel and I understand many chrsyler products are having the same issue. There is a recall on 2005 durango c or the same problem. Why is there no recall for the Dakotas?.

1. While sitting in park on a automatic transmission. In a still position rolled front or back more than a couple inches. Had to step on brake while in park and had to block wheels when engine was off to keep from rolling. Emergency brake does not hold or work properly either. 2. The heater has only high position working now. The dash gets to hot to even keep heat on very long. Fuel cap with key. When getting fuel truck has to be turned off before pumping otherwise engine light comes on the dash and needs to be reset or driven miles before engine lightor goes back off. 3. The upper ball joints had to replace twice now. Breaks had to replace twice also due to suspension being out of whack and problem above. Now there is noise in front driver side wheel area. 4. Put all new break lines on it because they kept blowing out. Leaking in different locations by too much pressure build up in sections of lines. 5. I bought it in 2018 used from a dealer. But I have put so much work on it that now there's a transmission problem. 6. Having no or little breaks all of sudden in a crowded intersection or having to block wheels so it doesn't roll into another car but no accident yet but could happen.

Vehicle stalls intermittently in a unpredictable pattern. Vehicle restarts after stalling 7 out of 10 times. When it wont restart immediately after stalling it will take upwards of 10 minutes to achieve engine operation. I've replaced the crank position sensor, as well the cam position sensor. Vehicle continues to stall intermittently.

Takata air bag. I purchased a 2005 Dodge Dakota in August 2018. I took it to the dealership in October when I found out about the recall. Dealership replaced drivers side but not passenger side. I was told and shown photos of an empty space. There was no airbag or wiring. I still have no psa. Also when I test drove this vehicle it had no headlights. When I purchased it I was told they were fixed. I do not have high beams still. There are also problems with the emissions on this truck. I replaced the evap pump but still is not correct. Can someone please tell me what I can do about these safety issues? thank you.

Mine is the 2005 Dodge Dakota extra cab and the exhaust manifold bolts breaking/shearing at the engine block. This can cause (and it has) a ticking sound that gets louder as you accelerate. Once you hear the ticking sound, both sides of the engine are affected. This results in poor mileage, overheating, engine will stall at low idle, ultimately allowing exhaust fumes to enter the cabin, potentiallu, poisoning the occupants with carbon monoxide fumes. I took this vehicle to the dealer to have then replaced. The 1st dealer said it wasn't repairable. 2nd one said, 1400 $ per side to extract broken bolts at the rear of the exhaust manifold on both sides of my 4. 7 . 3rd repair shop told me this very common on the 4. 7 and he does about 10 a week. His price was 350 $ per size plus gasket and doughnut gasket at the collector. Hey! if this is such a common problem why are we Dodge owners being hostage by having to make this repair ourselves and pay for it? it is an emmisions engineering underdesign that needs to be fixed and a recall needs to be issued. It is a design defect. Please investigate and get this situation corrected before some innocent child dies from carbon monoxide entering the cabin. Not to mention other potential hazards that may occur because the driver is overwhelmed by carbon monoxide and runs down 78 people because they passed out from the carbon monoixide filled cabin while driving. Please. Do. Something. Time is running out. Before somebody is killed.
Purchased this 2000 Dodge Dakota , engine light constantly on stating large leak in evap system. P0455. Fuel leak at gas cap. No way to fix this, odor is strong smell the gas leaking out. Unable to pass nys inspection!.
As I start the truck, it kicks when I shift to drive and start to accelerate. I took it to a dealer near me when there was a recall for the rack and pinion and they did not find anything. The truck keeps doing the kick or jumps gears. Maybe the problem is in the cable or the shifter. It keeps doing this to this day and getting worse. Now I have to move the shifter to drive and put it back to park to start the truck. Also the ignition stays on sometimes when the key is removed and this drains the battery. The truck seems to use way to much gas for the driving I do. My job is less than five miles from my house and it uses a lot of gas about 10. 00 every day for such a short distance.

My 2005 Dodge Dakota shakes when driving on smooth road and braking, rpms rev really high, has no pick up, and gets 9 mpg of gas, defect in drivers seatbelt none of which are covered by Dodge or a warrenty.
Won't idle on start sometimes and throttle sticks at 1700-2400 rpm's, have to shift to neutral in order to stop before hitting someone. Dealer can't find the problems after being in the shop 6 times and replacing several parts. No codes in computer.
2002 Dodge Dakota dealer identified lt ball joint/control arm assembly in need of replacement @ 42,000 mi. Problem existed some 6000 - 7000 prior based on drivability/noise. Veh has had repeated evap leak since 14,000 mi.
