Automatic Transmission Column Shift problems of the 1999 Dodge Durango

Five problems related to automatic transmission column shift have been reported for the 1999 Dodge Durango. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Automatic Transmission Column Shift problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2004

Automatic transmission suddenly went out, while out of town, at 60,500 miles. Dealer and company refused to assist in any way since 500 out of warranty. Vehicle was not abused or used for towing heavy equipment. Maintained regularly, but no assistance even after contacting Chrysler/dahmler. Cost $1,600 to replace at a transmission center.

2 Automatic Transmission Column Shift problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2002

While driving vehicle heard a grinding noise. Stopped and looked under vehicle, and it had a hole in transfer case. Please add VIN.

3 Automatic Transmission Column Shift problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2002

A vent hose/tube that comes from the transfer case is leaking fluid, and has affected brakes and other parts of vehicle. Please provide more information.

4 Automatic Transmission Column Shift problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2001

Vehicle would not go into 4 wheel drive or 4 low. It stays in 2 wheel drive. Delaer put a brand new transfer case, and it still would not work. Front tire to rear tire is 5/8 of a inch difference, causing it not to engage. Dealer is not sure if the problem will work unless new tires are put on. Consumer will have to buy tires to see if remedy will work.

5 Automatic Transmission Column Shift problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2000

4- wheel drive unit remains in 4w after returning to 2 w drive. Dash light goes out. But in order to return to 2w drive vehicle must be stopped and ignition turned off. This operation is unsafe and contrary to manual information. Vehicle did not respond in this manner when new.
