Ten problems related to equipment have been reported for the 1999 Dodge Durango. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2018

1999 Dodge Durango. Start out with going down the road and it would just stall out. Would have to wait for a while then it would restart. I replaced the cam sensor, crank sensor, throttle position sensor, transmission sensor computer. Drove for 6 months then it started having the rpms to fluctuate and would not stay running. Put another computer in and checked sensors. It keeps throwing a code that computer is bad and multiple codes are being sent for lots of sensor issues. I have been on the Dodge forum and wow the complaints on there. Having the exact same problem. E own two Dodges and after this; the problem I really would not recommend a Dodge to anyone. This all happened when driving, now after all this, it will not even run enough to move to take to a dealer. Which they say they do not know the exact thing wrong.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2018

Just bought this vehicle, the abs and brake light is on, contacted seller and he stated it was not on when he sold it to me. I took to auto zone for them to run the needed scan on it. It showed rear wheel sensor. So, I took it to my mechanic. He then ran 3 different code scans on it and it came up with nothing. So, unfortunately he can't fix it without a code. Unless I want to thro more money into it just to start replace ikng things that maybe may not be the problem. Now the check engine light is on. Upon reading others with the same problem, I feel there is a faulty something in there that needs to be figured out and recalled. I pray to god, my brakes dont go out while I am driving with my kids in the vehicle. I am a single parent and cannot afford to just go out and buy another vehicle. Figure out the problem and get it recalled and fixed, please!.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2017

1999 Dodge Durango pcm/ecu will fail when it gets hot, giving a no bus, and causing the engine to stall and lose power steering and brakes. This has happened to my vehicle on numerous occasions at highway speed where I was barely able to control the vehicle. This is a huge safety issue. I have had the pcm/ecu replaced over 5 times, which is extremely dangerous. Experts have pin pointed the issues to certain chips coming unsoldered in the pcm/ecu due to heat. Keenan laws has youtube videos on exactly what the issues are, as well as many other have done. Dodge contract's out the soldering of these chips, but they don't do a good job as some don't work at all. For example, we put three in before we got one that worked. This is inexcusable and puts people lives at very high risk. I paid around $800 to a Dodge dealership in santa rosa California for a pcm/ecu that lasted only months. It takes a tremendous amount of strength to control the Durango with no power steering and brakes. Dodge hasn't been a help or the pcm/ecu rebuilders. Currently I'm waiting on another rebuilt pcm/ecu, which the rebuilder can't even give a time when I could get one. The date below is the most current incident, but this has been going on since about 2009 and approximately 170,000 miles.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2016

The Durango acts like it's running out of gas and it doesn't want to shift I've changed the sensors a while back and I've had a transmission flush and it still keeps not wanting to shift from 1st to 2nd it just keeps rpms are going way high like up to five and six before it'll shift and then it still doesn't want to shift unless you let off the gas and when you give it gas it just chugs and chugs like it's running out of gas and it will not shift.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2015

I am my daughter were doing 35 miles per hour on a city street. When we approached a stop light the 99 Durango just died. Tried to start it again on it wouldn't turn over. Had to call a tow truck to get off of one of the busiest streets in our town, and blocked traffic for a long time. Ever since I bought the vehicle on may 5th, 2015, I can only drive it about 30 minutes and it will just die where ever I may be. I unplug the white pcm plug to the pcm (computer) and it will then start again, but only for about 30 minutes. I have read complaints about the 1999 Dodge Durango dying on the freeway while someone was doing 75 even on-line. I have read many complaints about the same issue I am having. I have replaced the pcm and other numerous parts and spent a lot of time and money. I have to go to many doctor appointments and am also a caregiver. This problem makes it very unsafe to drive and I am very lucky to have not had a major accident because of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have had (5) mechanics try to fix the problem to no avail. Are there any recalls on this issue? my daughter and I even died in the vehicle while in a car wash of all places!.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2014

I have a 1999 Dodge Durango and I was on the highway driving 60 mph, out of nowhere the vehicle just shuts down and a semi truck was an inch from striking my vehicle from behind. The semi left skid marks that where 25 feet long. I have replaced the pcm, crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor and the ignition coil and still no fix. This is my only car and I have to get to work everyday, I have no other means of transportation and I cant afford another car. I feel that my life is in jeopardy every time I drive this car. I have been in several near misses such as this one. Does someone have to die before a solution is found?.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2012

Once I was driving for 5-10 mins the car would shut down. Also the front suspension makes noise. When im stoping in a red light my front driver side seat moves back and foward.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2011

About a month after buying my 5. 9 slt Durango I was driving on the highway at about 75mph and the engine stalled and I lost power steering as well as power brakes and the odometer read no bus. After about 10 minutes it turned back on and drove just fine the rest of the day. It was about 90 degrees out at then time of the failure. We took it to several shops and finally found out the problem (pcm/ main computer) and we were shocked that there was not a recall after hearing how often this occurred. $1200 dollars later it runs amazing. The problem did get progressively worse before we were able to get it to the dealership to fixit. The longest we had to wait was 45 minutes between stall and start up. We also installed a k&n cold air intake system that has a heat shield around the computer. I love Dodge and am sad they have not yet made a recall on this potentially deadly problem.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2009

When I turn on my headlights the instrument cluster, panel, lights go out the turn signal arrows light up. At night this is very dangerous as you can not see how fast you are going and also if any of the warning lights were to come on you would not know because you can't see them as they do not light up. This is also a problem during the day because of the instrument lights are out. When I crank car the chimes do not always sound. I am getting shocked when I stop turn off car and get out and touch the door to close it.
