The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Durango. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle lost power without warning. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 138,000.
Purchased the vehicle locally. After 2 days of owning it the vehicle would shut off at random moments. Sometimes when I am driving at 40mph and sometimes at 20mph and under. In traffic and sometimes after being parked for a bit will not startup. When we are driving and the engine shuts off the steering wheel locks up also. The vehicle may take hours before it starts again. There has been many many complaints and still no real solution. The 1999 to 2001 Durangos must be recalled before a fatality occurs.
The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Durango. The vehicle surged uncontrollably between 60-80 mph before the brakes engaged. The failure occurred on two occasions. The service shop attempted to repair the vehicle, but they could not. The second time the failure occurred, the vehicle was taken to a different dealer. They were able to properly make the repair according to the service bulletin that the manufacturer issued for the vehicle. The failure mileage was 110,000 and current mileage was 110,200. Driving on to and on ramp at about 7mph the truck began accelerating on its own. Brakes were applied and we spinned out of control to the left and hit a gaurdrail, causing damage to the front bumper/right fender and radiator, maybe more I will get and actuall cost estimate today. It seems to me that the crusie control is activating by itself.
While driving about 10 mph and when applying brake pedal vehicle kept accelerating. This happened twice.
When starting up car accelerated without applying brakes.
The consumer stated while driving and without any indication, the vehicle accelerated on its own without pressing the gas pedal, which caused the consumer to lose control of the vehicle.
Vehicle will accelerate on its own accord. . Forces to driver to brake heavier than normal use. Vehicle idles at a rate that allows to pull out of park space if brake is not depressed. If brake is allowed to release moving of vehicle can cause an accident. Has maintain a speed of approximately of 12 miles per hour over a inclined grade going over 3 speed bumps. The steering column has a popping sound and that can also be felt with feet on floor board. Have has back to a Dodge dealer 3 times. All 3 times we are told computer shows nothing wrong and service department says " what do you want me to do about it". . Management has given no satisfaction. I have small children that ride in this manufactures defected automobile. I fear a out of control acceleration will occure and the steering will malfunction causing injury. Please advise. Thank you.
