The power front seats after time come loose in the 20001 Durango and move back and forth on the tracks. Seems like they are moving more and more every day. I read so many other complaints on this web site. Another problem which is common is the wiring burning up connected to the resistor pack on the blower motor. I read stories about how people have to replace the blower motor, resistor pack and plug at the end of the harness. The manufacture should have used thicker wire to handle the current draw for the motor that is installed in the vehicle in the first place. I have been using the original motor for 2 years now I just don't have any speed control now, but the motor is fine. The resistor pack is also fine just need to replace one or all of the wire that are burnt up.
2001 Dodge Durango r/t has melted wiring located at the front blower fan resistor connection. The melted wiring and connector were producing an extremely bad burning odor when the blower fan stopped working except on the high setting. The fan will not be used until repairs are made. Apparently this is a known issue because my local dealer sells a replacement pigtail which they say they replace to resolve the problem. This indeed a fire hazard and should be recalled as a manufacturer defect. My local dealer advised there is no recall at this time.
Tl-the contact owns a 2001 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the motor for the heater blew hot air and he smelled melting wires. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was confirmed that the resister, the wiring harness, and the blower motor had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact personally repaired the vehicle by replacing the resister, the wiring harness and the blower motor. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. The current mileage was approximately 130,000. The VIN was unavailable. Mah.
Electrical**** check engine light came on codes stated that O2 sensors needed to be replaced. . I replaced them about 2 weeks later check engine light came back on. After another diagnostic test states that O2 sensor needs to be replaced. Driving in rush hour traffic it stalled. Made it to dealership states that the p/s switch leaked into the wiring harness and shorted out 02 sensors and possibly other sensors. And if not wiring harness is not replaced it could spark fire cost of repair 3k.
Dealer has failed to repair unused wiring connector on recall. It has been at least three months that the dealer said it ordered part and it never came in. I have not been contacted.
- the contact has a 2001 Dodge Durango. The contact received safety recall (06v339000 - f42) on electrical system. There is nothing currently wrong with the contacts car. The contact has been trying since October 1, schedule the safety repair. The contact has made and showed up for three appointments and was told that the part that needed to be replaced for the safety recall is not available.
Tilt wheel has caused short in steering column has caused the indicators and all electrical in the column to eventually quit completely. Believe it is from the wiring harness being too short when manufactured, when tilted continuously.
On September 21, 2001 underneath the console in the front seat row the wiring harness caught on fire. It was an electrical fire. One could see the smoke coming from the plastic piece. There was no forewarning. The vehicle was off, and there were no keys in the ignition. The vehicle was sitting for thirty minutes. Contacted the dealer, they said insurance company should be notified.
- the contact has a 2001 Dodge Durango with and odometer reading of 150000. The vehicle had safety recall 1f637489-f42 unused wiring connector under the front bench seat, which caused a fire in the vehicle damaging the seat and the carpet. The contact had the safety recall repaired at the dealer's expense, however, the dealer refused to pay for the damage that was done to the contacts carpet and bench seat. The contact would like to know if she has any recourse to recover the damage to her caused by the safety recall to her front carpet and bench seat. The contact does not currently have any pictures, but she does have the receipts for the repair work. Updated 02/22/07.
The dash lights started going off and on without warning. I pulled over when I realized the taillights were not working. A fire had started in the taillight socket on the driver's side. The fire department responed within 3 minutes, but the fire still did $8,000 in damage and took the dealer 10 weeks to fix. The cause was unknown, but the entire rear wiring harness had to be replaced.
Durango orginal started stalling and then check engine light came on and stayed on steady. Went to dealer an was suggested pcm was bad no parts available (power control module). Parts ordered. New parts installed same problem when leaving dealership. On closer inspection technican found rear heat inline pump had failed internally and had pumped antifreeze through wiring harness which inturn wrecked cruise control, pcm, heating and cooling controls. Antifreeze is corrsive to copper wiring and we do not know how far the antifreeze traveled in the different wiring harness modules. Dodge has offered to replace original failed inline rear heat pump but will not pay labor $216. 00 district manager has offered to give 12 month or 12,000 mile warranty but will not give a longer warranty on electricall harness even though he has determined this will fix problem. But not removed the corrosive from the electrical harness. Tech working problem has see the same problem before at same dealership on Durango's.
A faulty wiring harness caused the turn signals and hazard lights to out without warning.
