1 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2010

Have had ongoing problem with the engine cutting out for last 18 months. Replaced plugs and wires. Problem still persists. Usually occurs while not giving gas. Occurred once will turning into a parking lot. Power steering went out and vehicle maneuvered into oncoming lane right of way. No collision occurred.

2 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2009

My 2004 Dodge Durango stalls frequently. . . Almost daily. I took the vehicle to the dealer after the first incident and the technicians were stumped and seemed unaware of the issue, which I have since learned is not uncommon. The stalls frequently occur at parking lot speeds, but have occurred while doing 50 km/hr and while under power. The higher speed stalls are a concern as the stall also kills power braking and steering. To restart the vehicle, you have to put it in n and turn ignition. So far, that has worked each time, but at speed this can be a little unnerving to say the least. Dodge stated that a eec flash was available, but that it did not address stalling, only shifting issues and therefore it was not required. Dodge has so far indicated there is nothing that can be done. I am dating the information below with the most recent incident because it was the first time it has occurred at higher speed, but it has been stalling without warning at least once a day for the last 2 weeks.

3 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2009

Dodge Durango 2004 lost all function pulling into parking lot. Lost engine, brakes, steering, electrical. Liken it to a power plug being pulled out and instantaneous loss of all control. Was able to restart without mishap. Took it to nearest Dodge dealership only to no avail. They couldn't find anything wrong. Took the car home only to have it happen the very next morning again during deceleration to a street light. Took it to a different Dodge dealership. Found nothing wrong. But changed the battery in the event low voltage was the issue. Power cut out again during a deceleration and turning a slight right at a fork in the road. This time with entire family onboard. Loss of steering, and brakes. But instrument panel stayed lit. And all heat radio. Will not try driving again until solved. Note: nothing was done to the car before incidents started to occur. No oil change, car wash, pothole, break-in. Nothing. Lost all faith in "certified" Dodge mechanics as they can't even look up the issue and confirm similar occurrence. I've found several via limited internet search. No solutions however.

4 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2008

Engine stalls during slow speeds. When you accelerate it does not respond and than it lunges forward. Engine light comes on and off.

5 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2008

Nighttime. Pouring rain. Turned a corner in a parking lot and the power steering just quit. Turned car off and restarted. Power steering was back. First and only time it happened so far.

6 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2008

The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the vehicle would shift gears automatically. When the vehicle was in reverse, it would shift into drive and the shifter light on the instrument panel would flicker. Most recently, when the vehicle was placed into park, it began to move forward. As a result, the vehicle struck a pole. The contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer. The speed was unknown. The current mileage was approximately 75,000 and failure mileage was approximately 74,500.

7 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2008

I kept hearing a ticking and there were issues as for transmission. I took it back the 1st day I bought it and spoke to the guy who sold it to me. Then the guy left to go to another company. So then got someone else and 3more times was told there was nothing wrong.

8 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2007

Vehicle stalls at low speeds and when turning. Immediately restarts. Had local dealer look at it, but they can't fix the problem. Factory customer service is no help. Have read many other complaints about same condition online.

9 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2007

2004 Durango limited stalled while braking twice. Stalled once at a stop light. Has the 5. 7l hemi engine with 50k miles. Took it to dealer to have it looked at. Was told they could not get it to stall and we would have to keep an eye out for it. Then I found the TSB on line detailing the issue. Thus I find it odd that the dealer didn't know about the issue: TSB # 18-013-05 NHTSA action number ea05018.

10 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2007

Our 2004 Dodge Durango was in our driveway in park, the engine turned off, radio on, both front doors open and keys still in the ignition. The truck had been sitting there for 5 minutes or more till I got my neighbor to help me unload a grill out of the back. My wife hopped into the passenger side to turn the radio down when the truck began to roll forward while in "park". My wife was knocked out of the truck and was hurt badly on her leg and it ran into my neighbor's car then rolled into the street. I ran after the truck to stop it from going any further, I stepped on the brake then looked at the shift handle and it was still in "park".

11 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2006

: the contact stated the vehicle stalled while in gear. This had occurred twelve times and most frequently happened while in reverse. This had also happened while traveling 45 mph. The vehicle was taken to the service dealer four times but the service dealer was unable to resolve the issue.

12 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2005

When accelerating from a stop vehicle stalled. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

13 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2004

The vehicle slipped out of park without warning. The consumer was able to gain control of the vehicle. An occupant of the vehicle was complaining about the seat belt not being latched properly. The consumer opened the door and reached in to buckle the child safety latch and 8 seconds later the vehicle started to roll backwards, trapping the consumer between the door and the garage bay divider.

14 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2004

We purchased our Durango new in 8/04. On 9/ 9/04 the truck started, but died while I was backing out of my garage. We had to have it towed to the dealership. They stated it needed an update performed on the computer system. It happened again on 9/24/04 and then in oct. It had to be towed and they claimed that they apparently did not get the update completed or done properly. We began noticing then that the truck felt as if it was surging or almost skipping a gear. Multiple people from the dealership test drove it on multiple occasions. We were told that we were just feeling more w/ this vehicle because it was such a smooth ride compared to most 4wd vehicles. Does that make sense? we finally gave up. Now on 3/ 25/06 the truck died while in park in a parking lot. That same night it surged as I pulled out into traffic. W/in a few hundred yards I stopped at a light and when I attempted to accelerate it was as if the truck was going to die. On the morning of 3/28 the truck surged and when I attempted to turn the truck it died in the middle of the road. The next day it died on the way to the dealership. They kept the truck for about a week, stated they hooked it up to the computer and it showed nothing was wrong, drove it for about 30 miles during that time w/out incident. Now it has died again while I was pulling into my garage. I am tired of being told there is nothing wrong. A vehicle should not just die while you are going down a road w/out any warning. At no time have we had any lights come on the dash advising of a problem. It is very disturbing to think that Chrysler is okay w/ us driving our families around in these vehicles. I have three small children that I tote around in this vehicle and it is not very comforting to know that it will die unexpectedly.

15 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2004

2004 Dodge Durango 4x4, automatic transmission, at slow speeds 10 mph acceleration has a lag until 2,000 rpm at which point the transmission engages and the vehicle lurches forward rapidly.

16 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2004

Not reporting a failure or incident, just a poorly manufactured vehicle with an inherent problem that the dealer/company was aware of but did not disclose at time of purchase, nor do they have a fix for it. Just a shrug of the shoulders.

17 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2004

This vehicle has no engine braking. Selecting "tow/haul" which takes it out of overdrive does not provide engine braking. Selecting "2" and "tow/haul" does not slow the vehicle on a downgrade. It is dangerous. I have asked the dealer about it and no response. I have contacted Chrysler and no response. It is the magnum v-8 with the trailer hauling package. I am afraid to haul a trailer as you would be on the brakes continuously. Nothing has changed in the year I have owned it.
