The bolts used on the manifold are defective and break off into the head of the engine causing damage. Due to this, the manifold is not tight and secure and causes exhaust fumes to be released.
Vehicle stalls with no check engine light, when slowing or in slow moving traffic sometimes while turning.
2005 Dodge Durango limited, 5. 7l hemi v8 stalls while backing up. First time it happened the truck started right back up immediately. The second time on 11/28/11, it took 3 times to restart the vehicle. This has only happened while in reverse. Apparently this is a common problem with the hemis and there is a TSB #0802404 to "reflash" the engine and update the software. The forums state that this is a fix for some vehicles, but not all. I am scared to be in this car with my kids now-what if we stall on the highway and get into a wreck? please fix this issue! our safety is my number one concern, and should be yours as well, Dodge!.
I just purchased a 2005 Dodge Durango. When you fill the fuel tank it overflows fuel out the filler neck spilling down the side of the vehicle and on the ground.
2005 Dodge Durango 5. 7 liter hemi. On freeway, engine started "pulling" and "missing" and shut off. 75 mph freeway speed, extremely dangerous situation. Had a car load of kids. Was able to put car in neutral, and start the engine (doesnt start immediately). Ran fine for about 50 miles afterwards. Happens about every 50 miles of driving. Has been going on for 6 months. Gives no codes as to what it can be. Cleaned throttle, worked a for about a week, then problem continued today. Its getting harder to get it started once it gives out. Egr replaced ($500. 00), battery (200. 00), spark plugs (150. 00), replaced fuel pump last week (220. 00 with labor). . . I'm basically tired of this!!!!!!! checked Dodge forum and there is a lot of people having the same problem. No accidents have occured as of yet, but whats to say someone isnt going to be killed by this happening! please, please, please look into this problem. I'm all out of ideas, as are the Dodge dealers and mechanics I've dealt with. For your sake, this needs to be taken care of before the lawsuits start coming.
While driving the vehicle, it just shuts down. It will shut down while at a stop light and while driving any speed (happened to us while going 55mph). The vehicle shuts down, locking the steering wheel and turning off the brakes. This will happen about once a day, but can be worse. I took it to the dealership and they don't have any answer for me. They are just guessing as to the problem. So far nothing fixed on the vehicle has been the problem. If this problem occurs during a turn or bend in the road (with the steering wheel locked up) there will be an accident. Many people drive this vehicle due to the fact that it can fit the whole family, so when there is an accident it there will most likely be a death/injury.
My Dodge Durango 2005, shuts off periodically while driving. This is extremely dangerous when I have to drive this crap with my kids in it. Dodge is aware of this problem and just wants to brush everyone off. Saying they found no evidence of a problem, well we all cant be wrong. I will tell everyone I know not to ever buy a dogge. At least fix this problem Dodge, because right now your reputation is really bad. I am surprised Dodge doesnt have a lawsuite yet. This problem will kill someone.
2005 Dodge Durango stalls while driving without warning. Had the Dodge dealership service center in local area diagnose it, and they reflashed the pcm and gave it a tune-up. There aren't any codes coming up during diagnostics. $400 and an hour later it was still stalling. It stalls on average three times a day without warning, sometimes while stopping or turning. It is extremely dangerous and I don't want my children in the vehicle; however, I need to drive to get to work.
Engine stalls w/o warning or.
I have a 2005 Dodge Durango when filling up with gas the pump will kick off and gas with shoot out all over.
This has been an ongoing issue with our Durango. The first time it happened was about one month after I bought it used with approx 60k miles on it. It is totally at random. I'm always able to pop it into neutral and start it back up again as if nothing ever happened. The biggest problem with this is not only that the engine totally shuts off(as if that isn't a huge issue initself), but that the power steering/power brakes go out as well making the possibility of an accident a huge issue. It has always had a stutter when driving. After taking it to the dealer, being told they couldn't replicate the problem or pull any codes. In order for them to find the problem I would have to pay them to locate their defect. At this point Dodge needs to resolve this since I am not the only one experiencing this huge safety issue. I urge everyone to also submit this problem to the NHTSA.
2005 Dodge Durango 5. 7 engine stalls @ low speeds. This is twice in 2 months. There has been no accidents. This vehicle was bought used and the carfax report indicated no problems. This vehicle has 85,000 mile. Please help!!!.

I have owned this vehicle for approximately four years now. It has a persistent and very unsettling problem of stalling for no apparent reason with no corresponding warning lights etc. It just dies and the power steering and brakes fail resulting in significant loss of steering and braking effectiveness. This problem has occurred intermittently with no pattern of origin evident several times over the past few years. On several occasions, it has occurred while pulling out into busy traffic lanes across intersections. I have been able to put it into neutral and immediately restart it to avoid a collision. I have utilized fuel cleaners and changed the spark plugs etc. In a effort to resolve the issue. It happened again today at low speed in a parking lot fortunately. . Just died without warning. I researched this online and found that this is a common engine problem complaint with the Durango. Today, this occurred with over 3/4 tank of fresh fuel in the tank. . Read more...
My 2002 Dodge Durango shuts off while driving, this happens everytime I drive this verhicle, therefore will not take it on any highways or were there is alot of traffic, once it shuts off I have no steering or brakes and have been very close to being in accidents. This is going to kill someone and I hope and pray to god this is not what it is going to take for Dodge to do a recall. It is just totally unbelievable that Dodge would not look into this and risk a lawsuit from somebody being seriously being injured or even killed. I have had my vehicle to a Dodge dealer, to several other mechanics and noone can tell me what the problem is. Please help!!!.
Driver's side carpet mat hook broken, and manufacturer (Dodge) doesn't have replacements. This causes mat to get under pedals.
2005 Dodge Durango loss of steering and braking control with low speed mountain driving. This was a rental SUV in awd. I am an experienced winter driver with 35+ years of no accidents. Day one. . . No problems. Day two. . . Remote driving on two lane plowed centered road. . . Almost hit two elk on the road in the darkness. Day three. . . About 1 inch of new snow with no apparent traction/control problems (checked hard braking/skidding on the road without problems). The road had not been traveled that morning. I was driving about 20 mph looking for elk on the long gradual downhill (nearly flat), with right turn at the bottom of the hill. When I turned the wheel to enter the turn, the vehicle went straight (no load on the front wheels). Tried braking without sensation of abs pulsing and no change to trajectory. We were heading straight into a guardrail with a steep embankment/cliff. Turned the wheel to the right stop and gave it some gas. The Durango began to change heading and slid along the guardrail instead of going through it and over the cliff. The rental agent told me about another 2005 Durango with 4 (executives) men that drove through a guardrail and down a 60' cliff in March 2005. Originally, the agent thought it was speed related, but then began to wonder after my incident. The thing that doesn't make sense is that there was absolutely no warning that I had lost control in a slow moving vehicle. . . There was no stability/control feedback to the driver. If the road was icy under the snow, there was no sensation of it to the driver. If it was entirely the road, wouldn't you expect others to follow you into/through the guardrails? I see a trend. . . At least two 2005 Durango's in one year driving downhill on two lane snow covered roads losing control and going straight into guardrails without warning. I suspect a latent stability and control problem in Durangos.
