Driving vehicle and it started to stall. Felt like the front end was ready to give out. Vehicle has been at the Dodge dealership where it was purchased brand new. Mechanic is unable to determine the problem. All major maintenance and repairs have been at this dealership. Vehicle has 214,000 miles, but has always been reliable. Can't understand why it has taken a week to diagnose the problem. Had vehicle towed by aaa to dealership.
Ignition switch locks up frequently. Vehicle stalls out during stops, turns and backing up.
My vehicle stalls with no notice. No rpm loss. No warning lights. Just stalls. This is going to cause a serious accident. The first time this happened I was making a left turn into my drive way. The next time while slowing friom 35 mph to make a left turn onto a side street. The last 2 times I have been in heavy traffic having it stall when merging into the turn lane. I have serached the internet and find numerous complaints of this very same issue. Not sure why Chrysler has not stepped up and addresssed this issue.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while activating the turn signals, the hazard lights would activate instead. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The contact also mentioned that on multiple occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly stall. In addition, while attempting to stop the vehicle by depressing the brake pedal, the brakes had malfunctioned increasing the stopping distant needed to stop the vehicle. Also, when the vehicle was in park, the vehicle would roll away. The dealer repaired the brakes but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 80,000.
I have a 2006 Dodge Durango, bought it used about 4 years ago. About a year and half ago, approximately March of 2013, the vehicle started to stall while driving. It happened at all speeds and after it happening multiple times we figured out that it happened when it was wet/raining out. This is extremely scary and dangerous when going 70mph on the highway. . . To have your vehicle jerk numerous times and then completely shutoff (aka no power at all!). We have spent a few thousand dollars since spring of 2013 trying to fix the issue. We worked closely with our dealer to figure out the exact problem. . . Figured out it was electrical (possibly when the windshield wiper are used. . . )but that was about as far as we got. Some of the things they found and/or fixed or replaced are as follows: wiring that was frayed, re-ground numerous wires, replaced a handful of sensors, resealed connections between electrical components and main module (as well as resealed the boxes themselves since water was found in them), replaced the electrical module ($2k), and replaced entire electrical box(which included having to re-wire). . . Found a used one since brand new would have been $1200! . I have recently seen that there was a petition to the government to investigate (and hopefully recall) vehicles that have situations similar to what I have described above but they reference vehicles manufactured 2007 and forward but our 2006 is having the same issues!! since it has been to the dealer last (less than a month ago) we have not had the problem but there was a stretch over the winter where it didn't happen at all either so I am not convinced it is fixed. . . It seems the dealer mechanic is about out of ideas and so are we. . .
The vehicle has been continually stalling at lower rpm. I have had a tune up on the vehichle to include cleaning the throttle body, new plugs, plug wire boots, air filter and repeated diagnostic analysis at local garage. No engine codes are being registered. The local garage has a mechanic that has been a Dodge mechanic for 15 years. He coordinated w/ the local Dodge garage and re-flashed the ecm. 2 hours out of the mechanics garage, the vehicle stalled in a busy intersection and continues to stall and run horribly at low rpm.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning lamp illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 64,393.
My Dodge Durango has been having this problem for awhile. I finally did some online reading of posts and found other drivers having the same issue. Almost every day when I start my SUV the rpm's rev up and down. It also does this when I am sitting at a drive-thu line, stop sign, or in traffic. It also has died on me when driving. Mostly when coming from a stop, but happens when making turns, or sometimes just for no reason at all. If it doesn't stall it hesitates. It also will jump forward when coming to a stop. Like I said this has been happening for awhile. We have serviced the SUV for repair every time this has happened. The repair shop then fixes or cleans certain parts/areas, just for it to happen again. Yesterday (June 27, 2012) it stopped working with all my children in the SUV at a busy intersection. It is currently sitting in a shop while the techs scratch their heads trying to figure out the problem.
The contacts own a 2006 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while driving 2 mph the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was able to be restarted immediately. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis and the contact was told that the vehicle stalled because her keys were too heavy. The keys were removed and later, the failure recurred. The dealer was notified again and the contact returned to the dealer who tested the fuel pump but could not replicate the failure. A month later, the failure recurred and the air bag warning light also illuminated. The manufacturer was notified but did not offer any assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 78,490.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Durango. The contact state that the while driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning lamp illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact restarted the vehicle which was operating normally. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnose that the cam shaft censor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 151,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Durango. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and take it to the dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000. Updated 08/27/lj.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle stalled. The contact waited fifteen minutes before she was able to restart the vehicle. The engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was inspected at a repair shop and the failure was found in the throttle position sensor as well as the electronic stability control sensor. The vehicle was repaired by replacing the sensors and the ignition switch; however the failure recurred constantly. The manufacturer was not made aware of failure. The failure mileage was 110,000 and the current mileage was 127,000.
Our Dodge consistently stalls and dies when sitting at a stop light and/or slowing the vehicle to make turns. When this happens the engine dies resulting in the loss of brakes, steering, etc. Multiple times this has almost caused a wreck with other vehicles or has caused us to jump the curb almost hitting trees, etc. We've also had this happen pulling trailers and boats. This is extremely dangerous. I'd like to see Dodge acknowledge this problem before someone gets hurt.
This vehicle dies randomly going down the road. When it is wet out it is worse. With no warning the vehicle just stalls. During this you loss all controls of the vehicle. But you can turn it over and it will start right back up. I have talked to other people with the same year make and model vehicles and there Durango's are doing the exact same thing. This is a major problem that needs be taken care of before someone is killed. I have had it to a doge dealer ship and they said that they have had similar complaints but are unable to figure out what it is. I just want to be safe in my vehicle!.
Upon starting and shifting into drive, the vehicle does not move, even when applying throttle. The engine revs, but the car does not move. Thereafter, when the car is shifted into reverse and then again into drive, the car stalls. When restarting, the starter cranks for about five or six seconds before cranking.
Progressively worse engine idle at stops on '06 Durango w/ 5. 7 hemi. When stopping at light/sign, engine will drop from (normal) around 700rpm to below 500 rpm and feels like its about to stall. It will then come up to 500rpm (rough idle) and fluctuate between 450 and 550. If I give at a little gas, it will come up to normal rpm and stay. Dealer says they couldn't get any codes or find problems, however they saw same symptoms when turning wheel. After researching, I found that this same problem has been reported for '04 & '05 5. 7 hemi's and has some vehicles stalling during a turn in intersection (this is a potentially fatal defect). Dealer confirmed that chrylser is aware of a problem and has no fix for it. The dealer had me pick up the vehicle to use until a fix is available.
I was driving during a rainstorm and my 2006 Dodge Durango started sputtering and stalled on the highway. We were fortunate enough to get the vehicle to the side of the road. After my car was towed & looked at by a mechanic I was told that water was running down the windshield & dripping directly on top of the air intake. The mechanic told me it was a common problem for the 2004 through 2006 models. After doing some research I found this to be true. I spoke with Dodge and they told me that it was a design flaw and I could purchase a replacement updated cowl part # 55362453ak this part is supposed to divert the water away from the intake. I also found out that no bulletin has been issued for the public. In my opinion a vehicle that stalls because of the rain is an issue. It typically happens when the vehicle hits a 100000 miles due to the weather stripping failing. I also found out that when this happens the engines can become waterlogged and the engine can blow a rod through the motor when trying to start the car after the rain. Any research into the second generation Dodge Durangos should produce more information including electrical problems. Please look into this issue as I would hate for someone to lose a life because their vehicle stalled.
