1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2021

Tipm / pcm (computer modules) these items are affecting most Dodge vehicles that is listed already for recalls only in 2011-2013 and one earlier. This is happening in a lot of Dodges, mine is 1d4hb48n76f103011 (2006 Durango 4. 7 slt). They will stop running anywhere, it shuts the fuel pump off where the vehicles no longer gets gas and you have a full tank. It is only a computerized dealer fix. Their recall for some vehicles will fix my 2006 also by the simply relay bypass that they are installing.

2 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2021

Been losing power to the car while driving which cause me to lose my steering ability and the 4 wheel drive keeps kicking on and off while driving plus the wiper motor works sometimes and sometimes it don’t. The navigation system comes on and off whenever it wants to and the rear end keeps popping.

3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2020

2006 Dodge grand caravan sxt, safety problems with lift gate when opening with key faub; lift gate opens and immediately goes down (when stationary). If needing to get groceries, or anything from the rear of van, need to have one person holding the lift gate, so the other person can remove items from van, to avoid the liftgate crashing down on you (causing injury and inability for vehicle to function safely). Also, problem with left sliding door lock; does not lock and unlock with key faub; have to manually lock and unlock, even though the rest of the doors lock/unlock, with the key faub. Couple of years ago, put groceries in the left side of sliding door and this door would not close, electronically, or manually. Had to drive home in the rain with the left side sliding door, wide open. Believe the hatch lift support part for right and left need replacing, however, the left sliding lock/unlock feature may. Or may not be associated with the electrical problems. It leaves a consumer to get a questionable diagnosis from dealers, or mechanics, who see this as an opportunity to nflate the problem with inaccurate diagnosis and overinflated charges, to take advantage of a consumer.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

My dash lights stopped working and the dealer states there isn't a technical bulletin on this problem or a recall.

5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2019

My vehicle started an electrical problem. It's switching my tires from all wheel drive to either 4low or 4lock while I'm driving and I can't hardly get my vehicle to turn while driving when it does this. I had my engine on and in park and heard the noise from underneath. It's the same exact noise that's made when I switch from awd to either 4low or 4wd. This issue is occurring while I'm driving and I feel it mainly when I'm making a turn.

The traction light and service 4wd lights stay on, you can hear the 4wd kicking in and out when the car is sitting the driveway. Dodge acts like they have no idea what is causing this problem. You can google the symptoms and everybody that has a 04 to 06 Dodge is having the same issue. This should be something covered under a recall, there is to many people having the same issues.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2015

While vehicle is parked there is a noise from transmission switching in and out of all wheel drive and switching back to 4 wheel drive by itself. Engine is not running. This happens when parked only so far. I'm afraid could switch during driving. It has happened also when hitting the unlock button on the key fob. I originally thought another car was having trouble starting beside my truck. I soon realized it was my vehicle making this noise issue?.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2015

On 6/14/2015 I was about to back my trailer into my yard, when my gear shift column selector locked in park. I depressed the brake pedal and it would not budge. Additionally, my brake lights are no longer working. Prior to all of these problems I had to replace my ignition for it was locking and would not turn to the on position or accessories position. It cost me $400 dollars for a new ignition to be installed by the dealer and now I have worse problems than before. So I began researching and here is my findings: 1) safetyrecall g28 -ignition/park shift interlock in 2001 and 2002 models for many vehicles which included the Durango. 2) the brake transmission shift interlock connector has malfunctioned will not allow the shifter to move. So if the dealer knows about these recalls why didn't they fix them free of charge.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2015

No crank to my engine, security system just locked the car up. Been told to drive the car to dealership for them to fix it. It cant be done with the dealer because I refuse to take my car to the dealership. After reviewing everything possible I am quite frustrated with the fact that I know it is more than likely something to do with my transponder. I have never really had any other problems with this car, other than normal wear and tear issues. This is something that I see all too common across the internet and yet Dodge is not answering the questions nor trying to fix it for the consumer. This is why I will never purchase another Dodge car or truck again.

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2014

While driving at night I tried to use my brights, but the windshield wipers would keep coming on instead. When the brights did come on then they wouldn't turn off. There are also times when I use the left turn signal that the right signal would come on and the two signals would flicker back and forth.

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2013

Unfortunately have had problems with the Durango from the first week of purchase in 2006. The current issue and is very scary while driving is the 4 lo light will quickly flash rapidly for several flashes and then stops. The car will hesitate and seems to become engaged in 4 lo all on its own. It also makes a noise when unlocking vehicle that sounds like something under the vehicle is moving. It has be doing this more frequently. Concerned for my safety and there is no warning or control. Also when this occurs the steering is affected. In a parking lot recently I was almost rear ended because I was trying to make a sharp left turn and the vehicle just locked up completely and even when trying to accelerate it would not move. I have had many times taken this vehicle to the dealership for "instrument panel" recalls. It really seems that this car has serious safety concerns as this again seems to be electrical in nature and potentially could be fatal if driving and having complete lose of control. I have been concerned about this and also noted that many other Durango owners have the same problem. I would like for Dodge to be responsible for all of the issues with this vehicle and the repeated recalls and repairs that do not seem to help this vehicle. This is a serious issue and hope that a recall will be done before there are increased accidents or worse due to the poor quality and safety of these vehicles.

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

Transmission shifts by itself into 4wd. This happens while driving, and when the car is sitting unattended, with the ignition off. The transfer case makes an audible noise, then the wheels become very hard to turn while driving. This could easily result in a loss of control of the vehicle.

22 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2013

This is the third time this has happened while I was driving. The air bag lights will come on & off while driving. (both the passenger & driver sides lights seemed to alternate. ) this time also the 4 wheel lock light blinked on & off during the 50 mile trip going 70 mph. When I turned on my wipers there was a chime/ding. Once when I rolled down the window the wipers came one. Another trip two months ago when the airbag light was acting up & I turned on my blinker to change lanes the wipers came on. I also just realized that the door locks no longer unlock when I turn the vehicle off. I have to manually do it now. Also it used to automatically lock the doors when I put the vehicle in drive and that has been acting up periodically. The icing on the cake was yesterday when I went to pull into a parking spot and the vehicle completely shut off and all the warning lights on the dash illuminated, I just took it to briggs Dodge in topeka, KS and they cannot duplicate these issues and show nothing when they hooked it up. They told me that Dodge has a "star case" on file and that states that drivers are causing these problems to occur. (I totally disagree& think this is a cop out) they are telling me I generate too much static electricity! I find this very hard to believe. I am very discouraged and frustrated. I guess when someone is killed in an accident from one of these failing, then maybe they will own up to the problems and fix them.

23 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2013

I have an 06 Durango with out the chip key, I stick my key into the ignition to start it but it won't turn as if it's the wrong key or the steering wheel lock is enabled. It happened more twice a day over the last week it happens after every third time I turn on my truck but with a little giggling of the key and steering wheel it went. Then last night at 6:30am I stop by moms house to get me a coffee on my way home. . Get back to my truck and the key just wouldn't turn my ignition. . . Nothing worked, giggle the key or reefing on the steering wheel. . . Finally after a little over an hour of trying I finally managed to turn the ignition after jamming the key in there pretty hard a few times. . . Anyways I managed to get home since I was still bout half hour away at the time. .

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

The dash board lights/ warning lights go off and on, and the odometer and rpm gauges bounce from zero to like 5000 rpm while driving. The ac and radio and dvd and navigation all shut off and on also while driving. I took it to crown motors om June 21 and had a diagnostic tests ran and nothing came up all was fine. They told me to bring it back in when it did it and to leave it run when I go inside to let them know. I took back down there on June 24 as it was doing it all again. They immediately took it back to the shop and stated you definitely have something wrong. They told after an hour that they could only get the reading up to the ecm and anything after that it is not showing up that it is dead. They called the lead engineer at Dodge to try and find a solution. I talked to them on June 25 and still no answer. They told me they had to put $10 in gas and was going to charge that to me as they lost the signal to diagnostic sue to turning the vehicle off. They drove around four different times to try and reestablish the problem and has not happened. I called them today June 27,2013 and told I could come and pick up the vehicle as they can not get the vehicle to do the problems again to reestablish the connections. They also said if it happens again to just bring it back over so they can reestablish the connection for the problems. I know that there has been recalls for the electrical system on these vehicles. They dealer told they were all closed out and my vehicle was not one of them. Still have not resolve the problems with my 2006 Durango. I do not feel comfortable driving my family around in it due to a possible fire like some have had or the engine shutting off going down the highway.

25 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2013

My vehicle says svc 4wd then goes into 4lo & 4lock withoit me touching it. It locks up & switches on its own while im driving. Switches into 4wd while it is parked & the truck is off. When u use the unlock remote it switches it also. I dont know what is causing this & the mechanic says no codes show up even wheb the svc 4wd light is on.

26 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2013

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the lights in the dash, and the radio, the tachometer, and speedometer will fail to operate sporadically. The contact stated that once this occurs, the seat belt warning will come on, and won't shut off until the vehicle is turned off. This has occurred on various occasions. The contact wanted to know if the manufacturer was responsible for fixing the repairs on the vehicle's instrument cluster. The instrument cluster was repaired in 2007. It was diagnosed that the instrument cluster was faulty. The failure mileage was 80,000 aa.

27 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while activating the turn signals, the hazard lights would activate instead. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The contact also mentioned that on multiple occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly stall. In addition, while attempting to stop the vehicle by depressing the brake pedal, the brakes had malfunctioned increasing the stopping distant needed to stop the vehicle. Also, when the vehicle was in park, the vehicle would roll away. The dealer repaired the brakes but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 80,000.

28 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2012

As I was exiting a highway, my 2006 Dodge Durango suddenly stalled out. The engine light came on after it stalled. I lost control of steering and was unable to brake. I nearly crashed into the car in front of me, and was barely able to turn the steering wheel enough to run into the curb to stop my vehicle! I was not able to re-start it and had to be towed. While waiting for police to arrive, I was nearly rear-ended multiple times. It was towed to a shop and the mechanic was able to start it up with no problem the next morning. He checked everything, and ran all diagnostic tests - all came back showing no problems. There is clearly a problem - and there are man, many, many complaints about it all over the internet. If I had been on the highway when this happened, I could have been in a very serious accident and could have been killed, or killed someone else, since I lost complete control of the vehicle and was unable to steer or brake. Is it going to take a fatality before this is recalled and fixed?????? I am scared to death to drive it now!.

29 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2012

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the instrument panel lighting would flash intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where the technician stated that the front control module would need to be replaced. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph when the rpm reading increased and the vehicle became hesitant upon acceleration. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

30 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2012

We were driving our 2006 Dodge Durango for about 5 minutes when all of a sudden the dash board lights started flashing. My husband was able to veer off the road on a side street and coast down into a parking lot. By this point the car was completely unresponsive. Smoke started to come out of the vehicle vents on the dashboard. We thought maybe a part broke at first. My husband opened the hood and there was no visible fires and not a lot of smoke. Smoke started coming more and more quickly out of the vents. We got our 3 children out of the car. By this point smoke was billowing out. My husband ran into a building and called for help. The business gave us a fire extinguisher and called the fire department. As my husband ran back to the Durango flames he saw the dashboard start to collapse. Next thing we knew flames were flying up the front window. He used the fire extinguisher on it. The fireman arrived and helped make sure the fire was completely out.

31 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

Right turn work in rear, but not in the front, left side work opposite, head light left work on low, but not on high, right work opposite, fog lights do not work.

32 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2012

At random times, including while sitting in the driveway, the transfer case on my 2006 Dodge Durango awd will engage the 4wd. It can happen while sitting in the driveway when you insert the key and before you start the engine. It also makes the clicking sound as if it is engaging when you unlock the doors (possible electrical problem?) it can also happen when driving while turning a corner, such as the sharp corners in a drive-thru. The effect is such that one wheel locks up as if one front wheel has the emergency brake on. When going straight there is no issue. I have researched on the internet and found forums where others are having the same exact problem. The problem is that it is random and intermittent, and difficult to reproduce at the dealership. Often their response is to simply replace one or more of the three main components without verifying that is the issue. This can be quite expensive for the owner and frustrating after spending large sums of money and the issue remains unsolved. I feel it is a safety issue because an inexperienced driver might have this issue in a drive-thru, and to overcome the lack of movement after pressing the gas pedal, they may rev the engine. This might overcompensate and cause the vehicle to dart forward into another car, or even into the building as the wheels are turned to go around the corner. If the 4wd disengages at the revving of the engine, this could also cause the vehicle to suddenly accelerate into another vehicle, pedestrian, or building.

33 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2012

I first noticed a problem when leaving work by simply unlocking my 06 Durango (all wheel drive/ 4 wheel drive) with the key fob the transfer case control motor starts shifting the truck in and out from awd to 4wd and I haven't even opened the door!! as the weeks pass it does this several more times but what is more unnerving is that as I am driving at hwy speeds, 60 to 70 mph, or any speed really, my "4 wheel low" light on the dash will start to flicker as if it is trying to shift into 4 wheel low un-commanded. After searching several forums I find this to be a common chronic electrical problem with Durangos and a huge safety risk. Please understand that max speed for a 4 wheel drive vehicle that is in 4 wheel low is about 10 to 15 mph, the gear ratio is extremely low and intended for maximum traction when off road. If this vehicle shifts into 4 wheel low at 70 mph all 4 wheels will come to a stop and the driver will most likely loose total control. At that speed this is a dangerous combination. I have read of this happening to Durangos with serious damage and huge expense for the owner. This very scenario happened to a CO-workers wife with his kids in their 06 Durango, luckily she was only traveling at about 30 to 35 mph and no accident occurred. Now my key fob wont even open the door, it acts as if its dead or broken. I have to use the key to unlock the truck manually which sets off the alarm every time I unlock the door. The same electrical problem I started with is tied to the 4 wheel drive electrically, another common chronic problem. My local Dodge dealer deny's having any knowledge of this problem or a fix and from what I have read Dodge deny's it as well. Is it going to take a family's death from one of these vehicles for Dodge to own up to this and recognize they have a very wide spread problem over several years manufacturing!.

34 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2011

Upon turning into parking lot of local store, car shut down and system locked up. No power steering and no engine light came on. Was able to steer car to parking space, stop and restart vehicle. This is the second occurence in 2 weeks. Same scenario, going slow in parking lot and vehicle shuts down. Another problem has come up now when after I start the vehicle in the morning, it surges from 1000 rpm to 2000 back and forth for about 10-15 seconds. My questions for the Durango makers is when will their be a total recall on these SUV's?.

35 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2011

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Durango. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph down hill the brakes were depressed and smoke emitted from the brakes and smelled as if they were on fire. The contact was forced to drive onto the emergency lane. The check engine and air bag lights began to illuminate intermittently. The contact was concerned that there was no air bag in the vehicle. The brakes were currently making a grinding noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer repeatedly where they continued to turn the warning lights off; however, the manufacturer was not notified. The dealer took the vehicle to another dealership for diagnostic testing and advised the contact that the catalytic converter failed and she would be responsible for half of the repair cost. The failures occurred immediately after she purchased the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 2 and the current mileage was 91,000.
